Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again
This is a great experience for a team this young. A lot of key players will be returning. This is a team that could be making runs the next couple years at least. Kudos to Army and Air Force, who I fully expect right now to be back at Blue Cross next year the way they played to end the season. To Robert Morris - very disappointed with how they reacted to losing. Their coach should be ashamed at how they ended the game. With all the seniors next year, they are going to be rebuilding next year.
Yup, Army and Air Force should be returning strong squads if they can keep their teams intact. The Atlantic Championships actually played out very well for RIT. I was hoping that RIT would not have to face a very hot Army team in the semi's and they didn't. The key was getting by Air Force as we know has been RIT's biggest thorn at Blue Cross. Getting by them was huge as Army did RIT a favor by extending RMU into overtime. RMU likely felt the pressure in the semi's of being the number 1 seed and having to get by Army. They did but I think they were a little spent, even more so than RIT after RIT's OT win over Air Force.
Tom Naeger rightly pointed out in an earlier post that if RIT could bury their chances they would have a great chance to win this. RIT getting the equalizer after RMU scored early was huge. They did very much bury their chances.
As for RMU being bad sports, well I think that was more frustration than anything else. Nothing short of the Atlantic Hockey Championship was acceptable for this team of terrific RMU seniors that was expected to win it last year and also this year, only to have 'Hurst upset them last year, and RIT do the same this year. It just boiled over, it's hockey. I wish their seniors well in their future hockey careers.
Looking at this eleven team league I think RIT has played the setup very well. Being regular season champs means little, getting a first round bye means everything if you need to get healthy. Even playing at Mercyhurst played into RIT's hands as we know we haven't played well at home. I wonder if the league switches things around next year.
Anyway, on to Albany! I saw a tweet from an RPI faithful last night mentioning that it wouldn't be fair for Quinnipiac to play at Albany, making a reference to how well the RIT fans travel and how RIT upset Denver and UNH in Albany back in 09-10. I'm glad it lined up this way, great for Coach too to have Yale there as well. Can't wait for next weekend.
