Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

Ironically RIT is second in conference goals for behind RoMo and we still complain/worry about the scoring.
Notice I said that this problem has been intermittent this season. During the team's hot streak, the offense was finding ways to finish and not needing the goaltending or defense to steal wins for them. There have been a few times where the lack of finish has reared its ugly head again, most notably the recent HC and AIC games: 2 on 44 shots, 3 on 36 shots, 4 on 49 shots, and 3 on 54 shots. That's a 93.4 SV% for the opposition (and two of the 4 goal game were scored with the goaltender pulled). The offense suffered at Air Force as well (2 and 0 goals), but the Falcon defense held the Tigers to only 46 shots total on the weekend, a much different scenario.

Thin air has that affect on most visitors to Colorado. I couldn't imagine lasting a shift living east and playing out there.

Any news on the healing goaltenders???

Multiple (unconfirmed) sources saw Short in a walking boot this past weekend. That doesn't exactly sound like a "day to day" injury to me.

It's interesting to me that Rotolo keeps dressing but never even taking warmups. Especially this weekend with Short in the press box - would Rotolo be able to play if Amato had gotten hurt? If not I'm not sure why you dress him at all.

Perhaps some sort of "bluff"? If opposing players don't see any other goalie on the bench, maybe they'd take that one extra stride toward the net and Amato...

My just watch the highlights from Friday game. Kid can't seem to make a save on a one on one situation.... Yikes...

Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

The rulebook is a little confusing on this. I guess it depends on how you define "ready to play", "must", and "incapacitated".

5.3 Goalkeeper - Each team shall be allowed one goalkeeper on the ice at one
time. The goalkeeper may be removed and another player substituted.
A substitute goalkeeper must be on the bench at the start of the game
and shall at all times be fully dressed and equipped and ready to play. Upon
entering the game, the substitute goalkeeper shall take his position without
delay. A team shall not start a game with less than two goalkeepers.

PENALTY—Forfeiture (score will be recorded as 1-0).

Note: It is no longer required to request a waiver if a team must start a game
with less than two goalkeepers. In this circumstance, if the starting goalkeeper is
unable to continue (e.g., injury, penalty, etc.), a delay of game penalty may be
assessed if time is needed to have another skater change into the equipment of
the goalkeeper. Additionally, teams have the option of playing with six skaters to
avoid a penalty.

Except when all goalkeepers are incapacitated, another player shall not be
permitted to wear the equipment of the goalkeeper.

I wouldn't be surprised if part of Rotolo's role was to help coach Amato during breaks.

It took me about 6 weeks to fully acclimate after moving to Denver from Phoenix. First shift I felt like I was going to puke.

It didn't look like they talked much during the game. Rotolo was dressing but not taking shots even when Short and Amato were both healthy..it's very strange.

Nick Amato starts on Friday, per Gene Battaglia.

Ugh..this is not how I wanted the season to end. It's going to be a struggle every night to win with Amato.

I really feel for Amato, it a tough spot to be in. You know Mike Mathany of the Saint Louis Cardinals always talk about it being an insult to the replacement guys when you talk about a team being down due to injury. But as a Cardinals fan myself I often say you have to face reality. When a guy goes down you can only expect to get so much out of a a back up, otherwise that backup would be starting and not aback up. 3rd goaltender sports are so hard to fill, they normally are just practice goaltenders that will get into a game that is in garbage time.

Even with the big questions in Net 2 points is very do able this weekend for RIT. If they get that will only need 2 more points against a Mercyhurst team that they've dominated as of late. With the injuries that buy is BIG. Name of the game is just survive and get a buy and then heal up...

This weekend will be a real test for the defenders. Amato, not his fault will allow any decent shot in. The defense needs to protect him at all costs. I wouldn't be surprised if RIT loses big tonight. I'll be praying for Amato.

Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

At the end of the day it is the coaching staff's fault for having Amato as one of their options. Also this is a very little know fact. RIT when they went D1 the NCAA gave them a one time option to be able to give scholarships and RIT said no. My understanding is that the coaches had no decision in this and it was the administration who made that decision. I know they have been trying to reverse it, but the NCAA will not budge at this point. I am very curious to see whats in store for the rest of their season.

Yeah your right let's fire Wayne Wilson!

Third Goaltender is hard to fill, RIT has had a third goaltender for the majority of Wilson's years. Generally that third goaltender has never played except for garbage time. So the market on third goaltenders is small. That is probably why they had to go to the club team in the first place.

Your little known fact is filled with little factual errors. RIT did not have an option to give Scholarships when they elevated to DI, the NCAA had change the bylaws. If they had moved up in earlier years then they would have been able to offer scholarships, why I want to egg the statute of Al Simone every time I see it. They are attempting to get the NCAA to make an exception but have been unsuccessful. And this is all very well known...

Another reason why they went with Amato instead of a normal third string was because Ken McLean decided not to play over the summer. Too late to recruit anyone for this year.

Thank you I had forgotten about that...

That's just not true. The window on teams being able to offer scholarships was closed long before that. Four hockey schools were permanently grandfathered by a waiver granted by the NCAA in 1982-83. Union, which moved to D-I in 1991, like RIT cannot grant athletic scholarships.

Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

I don't even know what to think of the tie tonight. I thought it was a frustrating defensive performances. They gave up a lot of chances, despite a lower shots against total, and Amato actually made more saves than I thought he would. That said, feels like it's a game RIT still wins with either of the other two guys. We also definitely got bailed out by the no goal call.

This is the literal definition of cherry picking. I think it comes down to a couple of things. One, they've struggled to score at home. They've scored those pile on goals later on in games on the road much better than they have at home. Their two weekend New England stretch against Bentley and Sacred Heart both saw games where they both jumped on the opposition early and continued to add to the lead as the game went on. They did it at Mercyhurst as well. But the only game they've done it at home is the 6-3 win over Robert Morris.

The other is that Atlantic Hockey basement dwellers are not the pushovers they once were. Regardless of what Holy Cross did to them tonight, they are a much more competitive team than they once were. You can't expect to score 4 goals a night anymore. That's simply an unrealistic expectation for any team. A good team needs to be able to win consistently with 3 goals, and get something out of games with 2 goals (even occasional wins). Obviously that's difficult to do with your 3rd string goalie. Though as I said I wasn't particularly happy with the amount of quality chances they gave up tonight.

Oh, and the power play was atrocious. Egads.

Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

The power play was brutal last night. I think Niagara got more chances on the RIT power play than the Tigers.

The good thing is that RIT got a point and Sacred Heart knocked off Canisius to make it so that any point by RIT or non-win by Canisius clinches the bye. That bye is critical in getting a healthy goalie for the playoffs.
