Amato is backed up by Rotolo, though apparently there's no chance Rotolo could actually play. If Amato gets injured, we may have to forfeit.

Needed that effort they put in the last 5 minutes all game! They played down to a much weaker team's level, and gave up too many odd man rushes on their third string goaltender. Tough order for him.. he just does not have the size it seems, AIC were just picking corners over his shoulders on any relatively clear shot they got. Its not going to pretty down the stretch if we have to have our third stringer back there. No disrespect to him, but coming in towards the end of the season in your first D1 experience at this high level is not going to be easy...

I'll admit the defense wasn't great, but coming in we knew we'd have to score several goals to win. My concern is that we once again got shots in the 40s but had trouble scoring.

I'm glad we only have 1 more Friday home game.

I almost think we should root for an away series in the playoffs so we have a chance at winning..

Probably gonna need to score a handful tomorrow. Every quality chance went in. Nothing I saw tonight told me Amato is anything more than an emergency backup pressed into action.

Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

I'm going to give Amato some praise. He obviously didn't have an amazing game... But he made all of the saves that he definitely should have made. He got beat on defensive breakdowns every time and obviously I'd like to see him make a couple saves there... But I can't expect more out of him. Honestly, he played good enough to get the win... But the defense let him down.

Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

I thought Amato did as well as can be expected. There wasn't a goal that he clearly should have had. There were goals I think Rotolo or Short make the save, though. I would agree that the offense did not perform as well as it should have early on, and defensive breakdowns cannot happen with him in net.

Yes agreed. I would say RIT needs 5 to get a win tonight, score early and then lock it down.

I don't know if I can blame the offense for this one. We got 49 shots, hit two posts, and Murray made at least one save-of-the-year candidate (on Kuqali). We also controlled possession for long stretches in the AIC zone, especially in the first period.

On a separate note: how is it that Amato is listed as a sophomore while Kerins is listed as a freshman? They're both in the second years at RIT, and both in the first year of NCAA eligibility, aren't they?

From the 2015-2016 NCAA Division 1 Manual:
12.8.3.7 Participation on an Institution’s Club Team. An individual is charged with a season of competition for participation in intercollegiate competition (see Bylaw 12.02.5) as a member of an institution’s club team if that institution sponsored the sport as a varsity intercollegiate sport and as a club sport at the time of participation. (Adopted: 6/24/09, Revised: 7/31/14)

At this point I don't think it is, you can sneak a guy in during semester break, Niagara did it just this year. With the semester going I don't think you can unless there some rule I don't know about.

To be NCAA eligible, you gave to be enrolled in the school ... obviously. And, it's a bit too late to get someone enrolled for this semester like you implied.

So, what former high school goalie do you have hiding out in some computer lab? LOL

Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

I wanted Amato to get this win so bad. He is small, but he played well. 2 out of 5 goals were just one-on-ones where the defense left him hanging, one was just a beautiful play by AIC, and the other is the only one I'd say is "his fault". That being said, our defense played great - AIC just got some amazing lucky breaks and capitalized, and their goalie has been on a hot streak.

I mean..I'm a terrible beer league goalie enrolled in Grad classes. If Wayne needs me to come hold the clipboard on the bench, I'm in!

Congrats to Amato to nab his first NCAA win. The win keeps RIT in good position to nab a bye in the first round, which is looking huge.

Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

2 wins in the last 4 games will give the Tigers a first round bye. I think any chance of a regular season banner would require a run of the table and some luck.

The one thing that worries me about this team going into the playoffs is kind of a lack of a killer instinct. They are battle tested and able to hold teams off which will come in handy. However they just seem to have trouble getting that goal that will put the other team away and are always fighting to the end. They completely dominated AIC on Saturday, but made it a nail bitter by the end. I think again this is the result of a young team. They will be a wild card going into Tournament time...

I don't know if it's so much a lack of killer instinct or the inexperience factors as much as it is that the team just doesn't have enough finish. This has intermittently been a problem this season as well as consistently a problem two seasons ago and the first half of last season. Take Garbowski and the 2015 McGowan out of the equation and it's been a huge problem. A lack of experience may contribute to it, but the knack of finding the net is either there or it is not. They've had way too many games like they had this past weekend where the shots (and the territorial play) are so lopsided in their favor, yet the score is not. They're going to have to get down to the crease, score ugly goals, and claw their way to wins the hard way. They can do it, as they showed in last year's post-season and stretches this season. As long as they can get some healthy goaltending when it matters most...

Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

Ironically RIT is second in conference goals for behind RoMo and we still complain/worry about the scoring. Be interesting to see a stat of scoring chances vs goals for as some sort of indication of "finish" ability

Could Goals Against be driving this?

A big positive is goals from defensemen. RIT had 14 all last season but has 24 so far this season.

It just seems some nights they have trouble getting going. If this team can score early results typically are good.

It's nice to be able to pace any team, but nicer to be able to run away from some teams. That maybe a year off. What is frustrating is the chances they don't capitalize on, I think that more a concern than scoring. There has been a good number of times where RIT failed to capitalize on an opponent's big time mistake. It's the kind of difference between winning 3-2 vs. 5-2. That is what gets you, you know they are better than other teams by more than win by, but they are winning more often than not, so hope that holds, but it's a tough way to do business...

Any news on the healing goaltenders???
