Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

Time for Rotolo to get back in net or was this a case of the defense not playing like they should/? Sounded like the defense didn't help the cause based on the radio talk mind you I missed the 3rd period scores.

Seemed like a pretty standard Short game to me, gave up 3 on 23. 4th goal was on the empty net. Not great, but then his Friday effort was a little better, giving up 2 in 24. All in all what we have come to expect from Short so far. Flashes of brilliance but generally fairly mediocre while he works on his fundamentals.

Regardless of whether it is Mike or Christian, one or both need to be playing at a high level starting right about now as this team gets ready for the playoffs. We need a hot goalie if we want to get back to the BCA. Mediocre won't get it done this year, the teams are too tightly bunched, a hot goalie will make the difference this year in Atlantic hockey.

BTW I wore the white home RIT jersey at Tate rink last night, first time this year. While it worked for Army and they beat Holy Cross (which did RIT a favor), it didn't work for RIT, I think I am going back to the orange RIT away jersey for the rest of Army's home games.

Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

Love it when people blame the goaltender for a loss when the offense fails to score a single goal. News flash people no goaltender can win a hockey game when their team doesn't score. Was wondering if people learned anything from Ruby last year and the answer is obvious.

Goaltending is not a concern of mine, it's offense that even though is on an up swing seems to struggle to get going some nights. Saturday night sounded like a repeat of the Friday Holy Cross game. My biggest concern for the playoffs is who is going to step up and score the timely goal. There is no shortage of candidates that can do that, but still not clear on who is going to be the hero. It could really be key for this team to score early in the playoffs, they do seem to go into a shell the longer they go with beating the goaltender.

Calming down, I don't think you can call it a terrible weekend. Yes, 1 point is hardly ****, but Air Force had the advantage which they always do on home ice. That one point could end up being big. If you look at what RIT has left, the toughest team for them might be Niagara. No disrespect meant to Mercyhurst, but RIT seems to have their number lately. Niagara seems to play them tougher. But this team is capable of running the table. I think it will take at least two sweeps to have a chance at a regular season title.

All most want to call myself crazy for saying this, but I really think this is a big test this weekend against AIC. A team they can take 4 points from, coming off a disappointing weekend at home where they have not really played like the Tigers this year. Barring a complete meltdown, this team is going to be at home through the AHA Playoffs. Be nice to prove they can take care of home ice. Being the road warriors they have been this year would make them dangerous again in the NCAAs, but need to get their first.

Yes, but a goaltender can stop goals from being scored (their primary job) and have the game end up in a tie instead of a loss. It is after all, a team sport so you can't hold them blameless for a 3-0 loss! ;)

I don't think anyone on here blamed the goaltender for the loss. His performance was being critiqued, but I read no blame.

Clearly, when a team is shut out the offense has to be the culprit. But that doesn't mean the goaltending necessarily is without flaw.

Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

Let's just hope we don't have one of those 9 PP's to 1 games on Saturday that always seem to spring up after a Friday night win at Air Force if we do win tonight.
Not much has ever "always seemed to spring up" after Friday night wins at Air Force. I don't think the Tigers have had very many of those, ever.

Oh boy...

As found by dpm105:

"RIT goalie Christian Short is day-to-day with a lower body injury. Mike Rotolo's status remains uncertain this weekend."

Awesome, Great chance to get the 3rd string goalie some game time. ;-(

Hopefully Short or Rotolo will be able to answer the bell this weekend. I guess it doesn't really matter. If Amato plays, or a less than healthy Short/Rotolo, the guys in front of them are going to have to tighten things up and protect them.

Oh, by the way, can I change my picks for this weekend? Just kidding.....

Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

Yeah if Amato has to start this weekend that is probably a bad time. He's not necessarily a bad goalie but he's not a D1 goalie and AIC is not the completely anemic team they once were..

I'll take our third string vs your third string! Ours made 45 saves vs Princeton!

Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

I've been interested in seeing Amato play all year - and if there's any game to put him into, it's this one. AIC is last in team offense and last in team defense, allowing 3.74 goals a game. Given RIT's 2nd place team offense (3.27/game), I'd say put Amato in. He'll be fired up to "prove" himself DI-worthy and to even have the chance.

I'm not sold on Short by any means. He's progressed well, he's got a good future here. But I want to see Amato play tonight if Short is indeed hurt.

According to yesterdays radio interview, Wilson said Amato will be in net Friday. He also said Short is day-to-day, while Rotolo is still week-to-week.

I'm looking forward to see how the rest of the team rallies to give Amato the support so that he can succeed.

Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

It is never a good time to have your top two goaltenders go down, but if it had to go through it at least it happening when you playing the bottom two teams in your league. I looked at this weekend as a must sweep if the Tigers want a chance at a regular season title. Anything less than 2 points really opens the door to possible following lower than 5th. As great as a guy Amato is and the nice story that comes with him, you got to consider him a big unknown in nets tonight. AIC will probably throw everything at the net to see if he panics...

Good showing by your goalie....not so much by your defense!

Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

Well per Chris Lerch Amato is definitely in tonight: https://twitter.com/chrislerch/status/698248819880914945

Not getting a sweep against AIC at home would be very bad, but this certainly makes that feel like a possibility. It's not that Amato is bad, it's that he was never meant to be a D1 goalie in the first place..

Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

A glowing article on Chris Tanev and how he only has 4 PIM in 50 games!

http://www.vancouversun.com/sports/...v+aces+mental+gentle+game/11714216/story.html

It's great to see Tanev being so successful for Vancouver. He has played almost 300 NHL games and has a total of 36 PIM. That's really impressive stuff. He definitely has hockey smarts. Every once in a while, when I need a pick-me-up, I watch/re-live his goal vs. Denver. It may have been an offensive play, but his ability to read that play as it happened is something you don't see very often.

And I really miss watching the Tanev/Ringwald pairing. So much fun to watch.

Wow, what an opportunity for Amato. Should be interesting to see him in net, and to see how the guys respond tonight.

For anybody who hasn't seen the SZ bit on him: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3CBDvg1Z0ls

It will be interesting to see if they get anyone for an emergency backup. (if that's even possible)

At this point I don't think it is, you can sneak a guy in during semester break, Niagara did it just this year. With the semester going I don't think you can unless there some rule I don't know about.

I wouldn't call it all doom and gloom with Amato tonight, he is an unknown. I think the coaching staff has to have some confidence in him otherwise they would never have asked him to come up from the club team...
