Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

Have they put games on 98 before?

Yes. It's basically a spare channel TWC uses for whatever. It normally just shows home shopping or somesuch.

Tonight's game was a real downer. Exciting when we scored, but that own goal was devastating. Way too often did we let Colgate get a clean shot off from close range; we're lucky a bunch of them went wide.

On the bright side, while I thought our shots were fairly easy stops in the first, we got deadlier as the game went on.

The lack of a finisher is, as we all feared, a glaring weak point of the team so far. We have a lot of good playmakers and possession guys but no real forwards that could be considered anything near a sniper. That's going to lead to frustrating games like tonight where we put up 40 shots and 30 of them go straight into the goalies chest. Unless Kerins is hurt I cannot fathom why he would be scratched as he's the only guy so far that seems to be able to pick corners.

Defense played okay, although there was another horrible turnover right at the front of the net exactly like the one against Bowling Green. And just like that one it ended up in the back of the net.

Rotolo was average, he didn't really get tested all that much and two of the goals (including the own goal) really should not have happened. I would not be surprised if Short gets another shot next weekend, he seems to have been the better goalie this weekend.

To be fair, Colgate's goalie is very very good. A lot of those went into his chest because of outstanding positioning and reaction time.

The absence of Kerins, Smith, Miller, and Abt was striking. I think it's arguable we win the game if three of the four were playing. Though I do have to give kudos to Perron-Fontaine; nice shot on his goal. And Golberg's pass to Powell deserves a spot in the top 5 NCAA plays of the week, IMO.

I wasn't fortunate enough to watch the game, but 47 SOG and 3 goals against a decent Colgate team sounds very promising for AHC play. Wondering about the absence of Kerins, Smith, Miller, and Abt. Perhaps something disciplinary from coach?

Based on the postgame, it was more of a wake-up call, at least for Smith and Miller. He said there were about eight guys he was expecting to step up their play this season and he's going to sit some of them to stimulate that.

What's weird is that it seems like Smith and Miller had been playing well.

One thing Wilson touched on in the radio interview Saturday was that RIT is playing far better at home than on the road, and that they need to get a lot better on the road very quickly. I think he benched those guys not only to send a message but to give some other guys a chance to get in a few looks before conference play starts again.

Just in time for the real season to start this Friday night! Need to get a win on the board and this is the perfect place to do it.

That one goal was poked in by Rotolo, but to be honest, if he didn't, there was a Colgate player standing right there to do it for him. So saying it should not have happened is not quite accurate. It was a lucky shot to bloop up and over the goaltender like that, but there really wasn't much he could have done about that. It would have been nice if his flailing stick would have poked the puck away from the crease, but I think the offensive player was right there to clean up that garbage anyhow.

Much closer game than the score shows. Was 3-2 before 2 empty netters.
Although with only 7 RIT shots on goal through the first two periods, one could also say that 3-2 lead in the third was much less lopsided than the game really was to that point.

I'm not sure I agree, nobody was in the crease when he poked it in or within a stride or two. He certainly could have either covered it for the whistle or gotten it behind/beside the net to prevent a goal. Literally any other way than how he did play it would have been preferable, but he lost sight of the puck and tapped it in unaware. Just didn't feel like a good game for him and I think the door remains open for Short given his game last Friday.

I'm pretty sure the Colgate stick came in less than a second after Rotolo's.

In an interview with John DiTullio today, Wilson said Rotolo is starting Friday "and we'll see where we go from there."

Respectfully disagree. He had to lunge quickly just to get a piece of that puck before it was going to be tapped in. There's no way he had time to get a glove anywhere near it.
No it wasn't a stellar performance, but Mike wasn't all that bad in the game. It's a shame to see people's pictures of a guy's performance painted by one "mistake".

Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

I agree that it is way too early to start over analyzing the teams performance especially when RIT is playing OOC games and experimenting with different players playing on different lines. The one thing that we might all agree with is that when you score three goals you have a pretty good chance to win the majority of your games. If you give up four or more goals odds are against you winning the majority of those types of high scoring games. Last year RIT did not win a game where they gave up four or more goals. When RIT won eight straight games at the end of last season between that tough 4-3 loss to RoMo on that breakaway goal by Wydo at the end game and the loss to UNO (4-0) to end their season at the tournament, they did not give up four goals in any game. So regardless of the reason, giving up four goals in a game is not something coach will tolerate without mixing things up. AIC is winless so they will be eager for a win as well so RIT will have to take it to AIC right from the start and not take their foot off the gas pedal.

Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

Don't say that Coach is experimenting with the lines. Folks around here think that is what practice is for ;).

These games are probably the toughest games RIT will play this season (outside of the game against BC). I think the offense needs to get better and will as the season goes on. I don't think that AIC is a true measuring stick either as there should be no excuses for not getting at least 3 points out of the weekend and should get 4 - and probably should do the same against Army. I think the best true measuring stick is going to be the set against Bentley.

I agree with you, Komey, about no excuses for not getting 3 or 4 points this weekend. This is the first opening weekend in recent memory (for me at least) that RIT has started off with an "easy" schedule. Maybe we can get some wins under our belt, develop, and become more dangerous as the season progresses. That said, AIC and Army are no push-overs anymore. However, Coach Wilson and the Tigers have proven that they can compete and there is no reason why they shouldn't succeed in conference play.

While not necessarily recent, in the 2006-2007, RIT opened with 3 OOC games on the road, but opened at home with a weekend series against AIC. They won 8-3 and 8-0. I was a young freshman who bought tickets to the first game, and was hooked. I have had season tickets every year since.

Re: >>>>>>>>> RIT Tigers 2015-16 Regular season thread. On the prowl again

Coach Wilson and the Tigers have proven that they can compete...
...at home, that is.
They've yet to bring that same compete level on the road with them this season. If they do that, then 3 or 4 points each of the next two weekends are well within reach.
