RIT TIGERS - 2013-2014 Season

Re: RIT TIGERS - 2013-2014 Season

Unfortunate indeed. I always look forward to Brick City homecoming weekend. Aren't games supposed to be played at home during homecoming weekend? Actually, no hockey games are scheduled homecoming weekend at the new Polisseni Center (Men's team is scheduled to play downtown). Two years ago during homecoming, RIT hosted a big ground breaking ceremony for the Polisseni Center and now don't schedule a hockey game during homecoming weekend. Doesn't make any sense to me unless they are worried arena won't be finished in time.

I don't think they are worried about being done in time, but I'd imagine it's tough to schedule 4 teams, a comedian, a speaker, etc for the same weekend. It makes sense for the men to play downtown (although I guess it's not truly "home") because they have sold out Blue Cross, which seats more than double the Polisseni center, for 3 years now. They'd be turning too many people away if it was at Polisseni.

Katie Hubert is also leaving. She is joining the University of Western Ontario Mustangs.

The Western Mustangs did some recruiting from the CHA it appears - this year they are adding Hubert, Kendra Broad (3 years at Lindenwood), and Tia Kipfer (1 year at Robert Morris).

For Kendra Broad it was more of a graduation than a transfer. From the Western news release:
"Broad graduated from Lindenwood with a 4.0 GPA, was CHA scholar-athlete of the year for the 2012-2013 season and was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2013-14, earning a spot on the District 7 at-large team. Kendra will be taking Western's Master of Coaching program and will then pursue her degree in Law."

However, the same article was a little ragged with its facts, placing Lindenwood in Illinois and confusing Robert Morris with the school of the same name located in Chicago.

Admittedly, I didn't read the article too closely. Thanks for the info though.

Re: RIT TIGERS - 2013-2014 Season

Seems like we're losing an awful lot of players the last two years. Kinda weird for a team on the upswing, one that won the conference tournament this year. We lost Chamberlain and Kunichika last year and now Hubert and St James this year. At least Chamberlain and Kunichika stayed at RIT, but it's still kinda weird. =)

There's a third player from this team that has left.

FWIW, winning is a great make-up. It covers up a lot of blemishes.

Scotty runs a very rigorous program. When players have to commit so much to a sport and then end up sitting for most of the games on the bench or not even suit up they feel there is no point to being on this team. This was the case for Hubert, St. James, and the younger Kunichika. As for Chamberlain she didn't really want to keep playing especially at the D1 level she was a good D3 goalie but little slow for D1 and she only chose to stay the first season until Scott recruited some new goaltenders.

That's just it though -- Hubert this year and Casidhe last year were dressed almost every game.

I find it hard to believe that Chamberlain wasn't capable of playing D-I. The gap from the top of D-III can't be that big.

Lt. Powers. Check your rep...

I just think some girls don't like Scott's coaching style, and there is nothing wrong with that. I have heard stories (which I won't share publicly). It's always unfortunate to see players leave, but it's up to the player and we shouldn't really be speculating about it. It could be for some personal reasons too.

Most such gaps are imaginary and made to make others feel good.

Congratulations to Ali Binnington for being one of six goalies chosen to attend Canada's National Women's Development Team selection camp.

Re: RIT TIGERS - 2013-2014 Season

1 player, Haley Northcote, is a transfer after playing 2 years at Minnesota State - It doesn't look like she needs to sit out a year like I believe transfers do on the men's side - is this true?

Shouldn't have to - not going to another WCHA team.

On the Men's side: "Greg Amlong (O'Fallon, MO/Cedar Rapids Roughriders) will join the team as a transfer from 2014 NCAA Tournament participant UMass Lowell. Per NCAA rules, Among will have to sit out the 2014-15 season, but will be eligible in 2015-16 for his junior season."

This quote is from the Men's roster announcement at http://ritathletics.com/news/2014/6/24/MHOCKEY_0624140931.aspx

So why does Greg have to sit out (transferring from Hockey East to AHA) when Haley doesn't have to (from WCHA to CHA)?

Edit: I give up trying to understand this. The NCAA Transfer process is pretty complicated. They have a 35 page document explaining it all with case studies. http://www.ncaapublications.com/productdownloads/TGONLINE2012.pdf

Read bottom of Page 20 of that document. Northcotte qualifies for the one time exception and because she is swithching leagues there are no intra-league delays. The one time transfer exception doesn't apply to Men's ice hockey.
