RIT Tigers 2012-2013 season

Re: RIT Tigers 2012-2013 season

Watched the RIT/Penn State game online this afternoon. What did you think of the Penn State game plan (keeping a forward at the opposite blue line) that basically made it 4-on-4 hockey for RIT in the offensive zone? RIT adjusted, but that must have had McDonald scratching his head for a minute. Haven't seen that setup from Penn State before.

Do you think the two necked custom made guitar (one 6 string neck, one 12 string neck) Page plays on Stairway to Heaven is overdoing? Do you think he should have just changed guitars?

Oh, hell, I don't know. Do you think the Wiz should've paid more attention to the curtain? On a sidenote, any opinion on the game today, or the weird game plan?

Sorry, I should have been serious.

I think the Wiz should have paid more attention to the inadequate coverage provided by that silly curtain (at least in the movie version), failure to do so cost him all chance of maintaining the all powerful facade.

I have always thought that floating the forward high to try to draw down the pressure being exerted by the offense is a defensive strategy born of desparation. You get the occasional breakaway and sometimes a goal but taking a player out of the defensive zone gives up defense (which is what I think wins games) for a fleeting possibility of offense. It seems to me to be a fool's bet.

I can see that, and I can see the other side, too. It forces the opposing team to leave a defender back there to check the floater, and the defending team ends up with more room to work and clear the puck. That does sound desperate, I suppose, but it kept the game tighter than it probably would've been. RIT still controlled the game; I just thought it was weird to see that setup.

You don't need to defend too closely though. If Penn Stare gains control in their defensive zone it will give the weak side D enough time to get back. The floating forward is usually dead legged at the Rit blue line anyway so at best it creates a 1 on 1 with the RIT defender having the advantage of speed.

Desperation sums it up. And also, who wouldn't trade a 5 on 5 for a 4 on 4 if you do choose to keep a defender back?

I would expect more from a D1 coach then this.

I'll put my little devil cap on and play the advocate, and call it giving his team a better chance at things, considering their season as a whole. In the end, it didn't make for any spectacular offensive rushes, but his team didn't get bombed out of the place, either. RIT adjusted to it quickly and still controlled the game. Okay, I'm done with it - just found it an odd thing to see.

Seen it employed by several other D1 coaches at times. Earlier this year there was a HE game where a team was posting two forwards high. A clip of it was posted on this board.

Personally with the two of you, don't see the value in it except when you are on the PP. More downside than upside. More often than not the attempt for the long bomb pass ends up as an icing or a puck lost at the blue line.

Re: RIT Tigers 2012-2013 season

So we tripled up Penn State in shots on net, but still needed overtime to win? What's up with that?

Still, a good result. Bring on Syracuse!

Playoff - hockey. Just look at all the results around the country !.

Re: RIT Tigers 2012-2013 season

You'll have to help me out; there are a lot of box scores I could be looking at.

Powers &8^]

Prime examples.....
- Colgate keeping it very close TWICE with Cornell, leading late in both games before losing .....
......in a series most thought was going to be one sided.
- Lindenwood giving RMU all it could handle, taking them to triple OT
- OT games in three of the four games on the first night in the ECAC.
- BC needing OT to get by Maine.
- SLU - Quinny series going to OT twice. (admittedly expected to be a close series)

Point is...For the most part, playoff games tend to be tighter, more shot blocking, more focus team D and sacrificing for the TEAM. Playoffs are (should be) played with Team D as the first focus.

Re: RIT Tigers 2012-2013 season

Looks like RIT and Syracuse are in the second game at 4:30pm on Friday. RMU and Mercyhurst open it at 1:30pm.

#$*&%.

Do you think this team might, someday, learn how to keep a freakin' lead? And win in overtime? Losing four one-goal games to the same team is completely unacceptable. FFS.

That's a bit harsh, don't you think? Sure it is upsetting to lose to Syracuse again, but it's their first D-1 season and the team has so much to be proud of!

Good job ladies!
