RIT Tigers 2012-2013 season

Re: RIT Tigers 2012-2013 season

I thought RIT was outplayed the whole night with the exception of the first half of the overtime but they managed to keep it close. RIT's best chances were in overtime and I really thought they were going to win.

Nice to see you, my old friend!!

Re: RIT Tigers 2012-2013 season

That's a bit harsh, don't you think? Sure it is upsetting to lose to Syracuse again, but it's their first D-1 season and the team has so much to be proud of!

Well I was letting off a bit of steam, but you admit it's upsetting. =) If they were getting blown out by Syracuse, that'd be one thing, but losing so many close games is a problem. That shows a lack of killer instinct, one which I thought we'd cultivated over the last couple of seasons.

I can't say they exceeded my expectations this season; they're right about where I expected them to be. Maybe my expectations were too high? Yes, we were .500 this season, but four of those wins came against Sacred Heart, whom we've beaten before; five wins came against first-year program Penn State. Three wins against Brown and Yale, who finished 10-11 in the ECAC. We haven't beaten anyone who finished the season with a winning record. (Though to be fair, Robert Morris would have had a winning record, if not for us.)

I'm not upset with the girls' effort; I'm sure it was fine. But they've got to find a way to win those close games (cf. Colgate, Princeton). I expected more from a team that just won a championship last year, and keeping the score close isn't any more of a comfort than it was to our opponents in the D-III days.

#$*&%.

Do you think this team might, someday, learn how to keep a freakin' lead? And win in overtime? Losing four one-goal games to the same team is completely unacceptable. FFS.

Lace 'um hero. It's idiots like you that have probably never played anything in your life other than a video game, post comments like this and think your opinion means everything. You're part of the reason why I don't post on the men's side anymore. Screw off and go back to the guys. I'm sure you're back on the bandwagon with the men's win tonight.

Keep playing hard girls. The real fans appreciate your hard work.

You don't know me. Don't act like you do. I could never do what these girls do, but that doesn't mean I can't get upset when they fall short of an achievable goal?

Surely you're not happy with a .500 season, with most of the wins against bottom-feeders?

I can understand that opinion, given that you're used to seeing many of these same players dominate the competition. Just realize that this was a big step up for your kids, not so much in any single game, but in terms of the whole season. How many times over the previous couple of seasons did they really need to go all out to win? Now they are in a close battle just about every contest. They have to bear down on every shift. Their season is already longer than they are accustomed to playing. Some of you may be disappointed by your season, but as an outsider, I've been very impressed by the Tigers and think they should be proud of what they accomplished.

I think that most of the commentary last spring after RIT made the DI announcement figured them to be at best a middle of the pack team with most of their wins coming against the lower third of the DI spectrum. I actually think RIT exceeded expectations simply by having a chance to win so many of those close games. Anyone who thought differently was thinking with their heart.

Those of us devoted DIII fans have always assumed that the upper echelon of DIII programs could compete with the lower echelon of DI, but that would pretty much be the ceiling. RIT runs a solid program and it is only a matter of time before their recruiting catches up. The seed has been planted, stop complaining about how long it takes to grow. They are doing just fine.

Re: RIT Tigers 2012-2013 season

What a wild finish to (in my mind) a successful first season in D1! To anyone that thinks the game was close yesterday, you mush have only been looking at the score. Syracuse was controlling play for most of the game (except the OT where RIT had most of the opportunities). They had several times that they just pinned RIT in our own zone and cycled the puck like they were on the power play. Binnington came up huge on a few breakaways. And we were lucky on countless times where they whiffed on easy back door opportunities, or when they had Binnington beat. Schlattman's goal came because we caught them on a line change and an amazingly well placed shot in the top corner.

From what I have seen this year, this team is exactly where I though (hoped) hey would be at .500 hanging in games with an opportunity to win against upper level teams. In 2-3 years when we have established a presence in the conference you can ***** and moan about losing 2-1 games. I am glad that they were so close. And I'm excited for future RIT Syracuse games, because these were some seriously physical games. A lot of people in Erie were surprised by just how physical they were. (they also clothes-lined Binnington when we last played them)

Now that we have our foot in the door, I'm excited to see where this team can go.

Re: RIT Tigers 2012-2013 season

RIT has had an excellent first season at D1. The pace and physicality of the D1 game is a big step up from D3 and the team has responded. Giving Syracuse a good run for their money into OT in the semi-final game is nothing to be ashamed of. They have played some great hockey and I look forward to seeing their continued progress next season.

I agree; that's where I expected them to be and where they ended up. I was just hoping for a statement win against a team above them in reputation or standing, one that would make the country sit up and take notice. It's true that it does take time to learn how to win those close games, but I thought we left wins on the ice against Princeton and Colgate, and it would have been nice to beat Syracuse once.

Not a bad year for a d-3 team. ;) Seriously... not bad... even after a weak but understanding schedule. :)

Well considering the schedule was assembled on somewhat short notice, I didn't think it was all that terrible. The trip to North Dakota to play a traditional powerhouse certainly added some credibility to the schedule, and for a first year program it was a reasonable schedule. I'm sure the strength of the schedule will increase as time goes by and scheduling can be done in a more long term fashion.

Re: RIT Tigers 2012-2013 season

Some pretty exciting news is breaking with the RIT men's and womens hockey teams. Stay tuned.

Re: RIT Tigers 2012-2013 season

Awfully quiet in here during the offseason.

Here is a schedule I have pieced together from other teams releasing theirs.

10/4 @ New Hampshire
11/15 vs Penn State
11/16 vs Penn State
11/22 vs Mercyhurst
11/23 vs Mercyhurst
12/14 vs Clarkson (Outdoor game at Frontier Field)
1/10 vs Syracuse
1/17 @ Syracuse
1/21 @ Penn State
2/1 @ Penn State
2/8 @ Mercyhurst
2/8 @ Mercyhurst
2/21 vs Syracuse
2/22 @ Syracuse

I am guessing that RIT will be @ Lindenwood on 11/8 and 11/9, @ Robert Morris on 12/6 and 12/7, hosting Lindenwood on 1/24 and 1/25, and hosting RMU on 2/14 and 2/15 - but that is pure speculation based on the other conference teams and trying to balance home/away (the schedule above is very "home" heavy in the first half and very "away" heavy in the second half.

Re: RIT Tigers 2012-2013 season

Adding 2 games at Union.

10/4 @ New Hampshire
11/15 vs Penn State
11/16 vs Penn State
11/22 vs Mercyhurst
11/23 vs Mercyhurst
12/14 vs Clarkson (Outdoor game at Frontier Field)
1/3 @ Union
1/4 @ Union
1/10 vs Syracuse
1/17 @ Syracuse
1/21 @ Penn State
2/1 @ Penn State
2/8 @ Mercyhurst
2/8 @ Mercyhurst
2/21 vs Syracuse
2/22 @ Syracuse

A quote from Union's coach: “We play RIT for the first time since I’ve been here and they’re a competitive team in their second year at the Division I level,” Barcomb said. “Scott (McDonald) has put together a pretty good team and it will be a good matchup for us.”
