>>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

Ruby was excellent tonight. Pretty much put the team on his back, especially in the 3rd. AIC definitely played well and I don't think they are going to roll over and die tomorrow. We're going to have to earn it.

Also, the attendance in Ritter tonight was under 1000. Absolutely pathetic.

Wow. I knew it wasn't a sell out, but that's just bad.

I did some research - Attendance was 940 - the last time it was that low (not counting exhibition games in 2007 and 2009 where attendance was 903 and 909) was 1/18/06 against Bentley - Ritter drew 923, and this was obviously a Thanksgiving break game.

For the first quarterfinal game last year vs Bentley was at the end of Spring Break, and attendance was only 1113.

There is no excuse for an attendance this low during the quarter.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

Yes, attendance was dismal (but the number was also a little lower than "it looked" due to not counting no-show season tickets, etc.). Regardless, it was dismal.

Honestly, the hockey wasn't much better. It was a fun game to watch since it was close, and up in the air, until the end. For my eyes, the better team did not win last night. You could say Ruby carried the team, etc., but I'm not sure that was even it. Perhaps luck carried the game (which it often does and is why they play best of three).

What seemed to be missing, compared to RIT teams of recent past, was hustle and hitting. This is especially true for the playoffs and will be painfully clear if it happens again tonight (since AIC is fighting for their life). Earlier in the season I wrote that RIT looked like an "all star team without the all stars" and I saw that again last night. It seems more grit is needed.

I didn't check stats, but I also think RIT has taken significantly fewer penalties than in previous years (excluding a certain game in CO). I wonder if there is a relationship here? Has an effort to take fewer penalties resulted in a less physical, less hard-hitting team? Or is it just the nature of this group? We can only speculate, but I hope it looks different tonight.

I dare say the attendance was embarrassing. Maybe some fans took the trek to Mercyhurst for the woman's game, i don't know. Either that, or we are seeing who the REAL fans are.

I think you can directly tie the attendance to the team's performance over the season, especially on Friday night. With the team struggling it just hasn't been as fun to go this year. I have skipped several games, left at least one early. I had no intention of going on Friday but ended up going at the last minute. Attendance was 550 at the woman's game at 'Hurst maybe there will be a couple hundred more RIT fans at tonights game

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

I know I couldn't go last night because of work (as is the case every Friday night), but I plan to be there tonight. Guess I won't miss the days of having to show up super early to be able to even see the game, but yeah, 940 was just embarrassing when I saw that number last night...didn't look THAT empty on the DVR....

RIT has been playing with a short bench, if any at all, for quite some time now. I think it would be smart for the team to lay off on the thunderous hits, when they are not needed, in order to keep their guys healthy. I have no problem with them not throwing huge hits if they can win without them. I'm not trying to say that this is what the guys are doing - I'm just saying that IF they were I'd think it's a smart move.

There's no denying that attendance was down but I thought the atmosphere was still great - a large percentage of the people who were there were regulars that really get into the game - I didn't miss the "extras" who are usually there, the seat fillers - and I sure didn't miss having someone else's knees in my back while my butt is barely hanging on to the edge of my seat

Besides the bad visual of empty seats it was definitely a playoff atmosphere.

Tiger's win tonight and the attendance concerns go out the window.

Here's hoping the Saturday team shows up.

Sometimes I forget how good Chris is. Then he does stuff like that. We're going to miss him dearly.

Who.. who was that team in white tonight? They were rather fun to watch.

Great win tonight.

Anyone else surprised that the 4 western pods teams all swept the 4 eastern teams? Yeah, neither am I.

That's exactly why last weekend was so devastating. It's very possible all 6 Western teams are better than the Eastern teams (we'll see how RoMo and Mercyhurst play against UConn and Holy Cross, respectively) and even splitting last weekend would have seen RIT traveling to one of those schools rather than to Niagara.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

I'm dangerously optimistic right now. RIT might just have gotten hot at the right time. They battled and won a close game last night, then absolutely dominated every facet of the game tonight.

Ruby has rebounded from Canisius weekend, with 30+ saves both games this weekend and only 1 GAA. Offense is playing well, especially the Garbowsky line (but really, whose surprised by that?) and the defense has been acceptable even.

Hopefully Niagara has lost some momentum from being swept by Air Force and sitting on their heels for a week. We can hope.

Maybe if they stopped closing off D lot people would start coming to the games again.

Renting out the Gordon Fieldhouse for a high school cheerleading event seems more important to RIT. Not only that, Campus Safety (or whatever they call them now) manages to screw up traffic every weekend.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

Well, that was a lot of fun last night. The game had everything... high scoring, enthusiastic crowd, great goal-tending, a team that didn't give an inch, and a shortie! It was especially fun when we were all yelling "we want seven" and and the seventh goal went in the net at that instant! What a great game for the the last one at the Ritter for this year. Had to feel a little sorry for AIC, but that's the way our Tigers can put another team away when they play to their potential. If that's the team that shows up at Niagara next week, it will be an exciting weekend.

Renting out the field house helps pay for 'Goose Poop' cleanup on the baseball field and surrounding areas. Imagine what it'd be like if they didn't do that.
