We haven't beaten Niagara in over 14 1/2 years, granted we've only been playing them since the '05-'06 season following their move to DI. It should be a very good game and I think I may smell a win....

I'm hoping to have some purple eagle for dinner!!!

GO TIGERS!

This should, if it isn't already, be a sellout. A wild atmosphere.

The D&C actually previewed the game. While I would not say it's critical, it's a pretty big game for an early season tilt. The winner will have a good leg up on the other in terms of standings. I almost expect overtime.

Ughh. Not more overtime... We had far too much of that last year!

You mean you don't love the 3-3 Saturday tie? :P

I hope Wilson isn't wearing a tie...

That was a brutal game to watch. Madolora made a couple huge saves on some awful defensive giveaways, and the offense just didn't create anything. They probably deserved to lose this one the way they played.

We were rolling just 3.5 defensemen most of the game, cut them a bit of slack. The offense was good but ran into some very effective Niagara defensive strategies. I don't think either team deserved to lose with the way they played.

Niagara had a good defensive strategy on RIT - and both goalies played well. Niagara seems to have RIT's number and that the Tigers got a point out of it is not the worst thing in the world. There were a couple sloppy passes in the power play that lead to some glorious chances for the Eagles. Fortunately, Madolora was up to the task and bailed the Tigers out. The offense had some good chances - but I don't think that Campbell made any jaw-dropping saves.

It's the first time RIT got a point in their opener in the DI era. Hope the D-men can get healthy and gear up for St. Lawrence.

Re: >>>>> RIT Tigers 2011-2012 <<<<< Dreaming is Done, Time to ROAR

I thought that that was an excellent effort for a first game. Sure there's room for improvement but the kinds of things I saw were things that will improve throughout the season as the team 'gels'. The freshmen got a lot of playing time, Madolora got the shut out and they got their first point of the season. They definitely need to work on their passing but it would be unreasonable to expect them to start off perfect. Niagara historically has been one of RIT's toughest competitors and to come out of the first game with a point is great. I'm very excited about this year, I think it's going to be a great one!

Did both Saracino and Eckenswiller go down hurt in this game? I don't remember seeing either of them after the 1st period

I liked the looked of the Lynch, Hartley, Colavecchia line. Lots of good chances/cycling and Lynch looks like he is going to really develop into a go to forward for RIT.

Yes - they would up playing 4 D-men for 2 periods. A solid defensive effort when you factor that in.

Per the USCHO write up of last night's game, 75% of tickets have been sold for this weekend...can we make it another sell out?

Re: >>>>> RIT Tigers 2011-2012 <<<<< Dreaming is Done, Time to ROAR

Our defense played much better than they have in previous games against Niagara. There was that one really scary breakaway, but thats about it. Whereas the past couple years there was at least 2 goals per game handed to them on silver platters via breakout passes to a Niagara player alone point blank from the goal.

The offense just needs to know where each other is going to be for passes. if the passing is crisp and clean in the game. thats a very good indicator of how the outcome is going to turn out.

Being the first time I saw the freshman play I have to say I expect good things out of Garbowsky and Thompson. Thompson is a bigger Favot and ironically wears the same number. I think that McReynolds and Garbowsky gelled nicely when they were on the ice together, if you put Knowles with them it could be a disgusting line.

The game was what I was expecting. Neither team ceding any ground. The game wasn't going to be won, it was going to be lost with how evenly RIT and Niagara played each other.

According to Coach's postgame interview, Saracino was concussed and Eckenswiller injured his shoulder. And Spivak was on a bad leg but stayed in the game. I believe Burt played a bit of defense, especially on power plays.

I'm betting we see Raibl and the freshman next week...

I was wondering why Burt was playing D. I know he has done it in the past but it didn't even register that players were injured. I thought coach was trying to be agressive with a forward playing D.

Re: >>>>> RIT Tigers 2011-2012 <<<<< Dreaming is Done, Time to ROAR

My big take away from the game is that Shane has definitely improved over last season. He looks much more focused and made some very clutch saves to keep the Tigers in this game. He was good last year. He's better this year.

Really liked Thompson and Garbowsky. Looking forward to big efforts from those guys.

McReynolds played an excellent game and didn't come away with anything. Talk about an unrewarded effort.

Up next, offense! (I hope.)

Also, on a non-game note, the back and forth Let's Go Tigers thing was pretty fun. Let's do more of that.

Agreed, he'll need that focus too if the injuries on D are more long term in nature.

Anyone else thinking we might see Garbowsky up on the top line with Burt and Mitchell? Coach obviously has confidence in him as I thought I saw him out there on both power play and penalty kills

He was definitely out there for PKs. He had a few good chances for points and always plays hard. I definitely think he will move up the depth chart as the season progresses.

Also, totally agree about the back and forth Lets go Tigers chant. I think Goon should keep getting the other side into the game like this, it can only serve to make Ritter an even better atmosphere.

This still vexes me. How many of us weren't paying attention last season. Madalora had about as good of a season as an RIT goalie can have. If you ignore the one weekend in Albany, I would rank Madalora's 10-11 season at least equal to, if not better than DiMichiel's 09-10 season. He was amongst the national leaders in GAA and shutouts. He led AHA in most goaltending categories. If it weren't for him, the Tigers would have dropped more than a few of those "3-3 Saturday" ties and not won their fourth regular season title.
Shane played a great game Saturday, as I fully expected him to. The one-on-none and the two-on-none breakaways were exceptional, but they weren't anything we haven't seen him do before.
