Re: >>>>> RIT Tigers 2011-2012 <<<<< Dreaming is Done, Time to ROAR

With BGSU moving to the WCHA, the opportunity for Mercyhurst, Canisus, Robert Morris, & Niagara to start up a reconstituted CCHA is gone. If there is an opening in the ECAC, don't you think there might be some competition for it. NU would kill to take that spot. The Tigers might not have a cake walk into the ECAC. At least the AHA doesn't appear to be changing too much.

The rumors are that RIT and Holy Cross are top of the list of teams that the ECACHL would poach should there be an opening due.

If you scroll down far enough, great picture of RIT's starting goalie this year.

It would have made more sense if there were more defections in the AHA, but I don't know if the league would vote UAH in if there is 1 opening.

I can't imagine why the AHA wouldn't want a team with the history and dedication that UAH has shown in the league. Distance is the only possible negative factor, and it's not really all /that/ far.

I would be surprised if the ECAC would be interested in NU. That league is very, very conscious about it's academics and I just don't think that NU fits. While NU might be interested I don't think the ECAC is. IF the ECAC needs (wants) to get a team then I think it will come down to RIT or HC just like the rumors say it will be. The remainder of the institutions in the AHA just do not have the academics and/or the local to fit the ECAC profile.

I can't imagine why the AHA wouldn't want a team with the history and dedication that UAH has shown in the league. Distance is the only possible negative factor, and it's not really all /that/ far.

I don't understand either. It's not like the AHA doesn't have to travel across the county already.

Considering the whining that league went through when Air Force wanted to join...

This is true - not sure the remaining teams would be open to another flight for league games. But I would think logistically 12 teams are easier to work with than 11. Although its not like its easy to pair up travel partners with AFU or UAH. As for UAH's travel costs, there isn't much way to control those based on their location - I haven't looked closely at their schedule, but as the "red-headed step child" of college hockey (aka, independent), I think they do more than their fair share of traveling, similar to RIT's first year of D1 as an independent. And I think many of those are to the "western" teams, whereas joining Atlantic Hockey would keep them in the eastern timezone most weeks. Actually, now that I look at their schedule, looks like 14 home, 19 away this year, 14H-20A last year. So I'd think being in a league would actually improve their travel costs somewhat - unless they have to help cover the costs of teams coming to UAH for league games.

TigerFan,

Not sure you saw this, but the Devils have affiliated with the Kalamazoo Wings in the ECHL. I looked at the roster and Kalamazoo will have duel affiliation with the Nucks/Devils= Devils prospects with Jared Demichael... I wil likely try to make a few Wings games, it's like a 2.5 hour drive...So with Pinner playing in Chicago when he recovers, i will be able to see some RIT guys.

Other news from Vancouver was they claimed Dale Weise from the NYR, which would be bad for Pinner's sake as he fills a similar void that was left when Torres and Glass left. I thing Steve has more offensive upside though. Will see how it pans out.

Re: >>>>> RIT Tigers 2011-2012 <<<<< Dreaming is Done, Time to ROAR

I'm so glad we've talked the goalie situation to its end, until after the next game. Having said that, it is worth noting that in INCH's 09-10 recruiting evaluations Watson was the #4 goalie recruit, and the only AHA recruit mentioned anywhere. Don't count him out. I thought Brock a worthy opponent last Saturday, perhaps a good D-III team. They did know how to move the puck. Garbowsky impressed me with his speed and quickness, a hallmark of RIT teams. Can't wait to see him vs some of those AHA big, clunky defenses. Speaking of which, I loved watching Knowles and Cornacchia on the PK. They were so disruptive, quite Bagley-esque, hence all the short-handed opportunities. With the silly penalties in the 3rd that was impt.

Indeed, not great that they signed Weise, but in the head coach AV's comments about his lines, he really made it sound like Pinner would have been the starter over Oreskovich had he not injured his shoulder. But after 6 weeks of healing, the bad news for Steve is that Kesler will likely be back, which means one less forward spot open. I think he might still get a shot though when he's healthy. He seemed to really impress the coaching staff.

I just realized that Chicago not only doesn't come to Rochester this season, they don't play each other at all, despite being in the same conference. The insanity! :(

When Air Force was finally accepted, I believe it was on the condition that they would have significantly less home games in their schedule than other teams. Perhaps mar7967 would be willing to help out on recent events with that, as he's been following AHA schedules more closely. How does the east/west pod structure relate to this original request? Would we end up seeing eastern schools on a three-year rotation (year 1 travel to AFA, year 2 travel to UAH, year 3 get them both at home)?

Obviously this is all if and only if UAH were to become a 12th team and a western AHA team were to leave.

I don't know AFA's non-conference number of home vs away games, but their conference schedule has been exactly the same as everyone else's to the best of my knowledge. 13 home / 14 away one year, 14 home / 13 away the next.

Don't get me started on that one. The AHL has been in "cost-containment" mode when it comes to scheduling since they absorbed the surviving IHL teams and further expanded west a number of years ago. Even though Rochester is in the same conference with Abbotsford, Texas, Chicago, et. al., they rarely play any of them. In contrast, Syracuse and Bingamton are not in the same conference as Rocheser, but the Amerks play them almost as many times as they play the teams in their own division. It's very convoluted, but all about travel costs. Heck, the New England teams rarely play outside of their division at all. They barely have to travel at all for 90% of their games.

You mean send them to the Eastern time zone. Alabama is in the Central time zone.

Then why did the Crunch rarely play the Marlies (at least at home) last year?

TigerFan is right. And before Niagara and Robert Morris, it was 14 home, 14 away each year.

Destler is on WITR right now. He said they've raised just under $3million for the new arena so far.

Also, Abby Wambach will be dropping the puck at the Brick City game.

Is that including the initial $1 million? If so..that's pretty disappointing. Even if it isn't including that, it's still pretty disappointing. Still got a real long way to go.

Also, Wambach is sort of an odd choice for the hockey opener, but I guess it's cool.

Re: >>>>> RIT Tigers 2011-2012 <<<<< Dreaming is Done, Time to ROAR

Re: >>>>> RIT Tigers 2011-2012 <<<<< Dreaming is Done, Time to ROAR

It's probably including the initial $1M and the $1M scoreboard donation ... so yes, being under $3M is not too surprising and is disappointing. We can only hope that there is a big donation (like to name the place) waiting in the wings. He did say on opening day that he hoped to have something to say about it in a couple of months. Let's hope that's still true. I'm guessing (hoping) there is an announcement at Brick City.

She's a Rochester native, so it KINDA makes sense.

Maybe it's going to be the "Wambach Arena"??? ;)
