If you look at the tone of your comments in the first line and the number of comments back towards you after that, you'll see what I'm referring to.

Strike the first two questions and I believe nothing more would have been said or construed as negative in your post.

I quite honestly do not hear the extreme negativeness that you seem to be hearing. It sounds exactly the same as everyone else. Let us keep in mind that we're on the Internet and therefore cannot decide what the tone of someone else's statement was.

Let's also forget that the 2009-2010 team went 0-6 in non-conference games - including some pretty good beatdowns to Minnesota STATE. The only non-conference games they won were in the NCAA tournament.

Re: >>>>> RIT Tigers 2011-2012 <<<<< Dreaming is Done, Time to ROAR

Thanks, JRZ DVLS. It was a treat to be able to do that. I've had a chance to chat with Wayne off the record on road trips, etc., and so it was nice that we got to talk about the program in general. I was particularly interested in his comments about proposing NCAA rules that would allow schools with D-I programs who weren't grandfathered to offer scholarships.

Yes it was really interesting to hear that coach is more interested in that as opposed to moving conferences. I never really even thought about it but it probably makes more sense

Re: >>>>> RIT Tigers 2011-2012 <<<<< Dreaming is Done, Time to ROAR

Thinking that we can stay at the level of the 2009-10 team is a bit of a reach. That team was loaded with some players that really could have played at higher level NCAA conferences and programs. I don't think we have a player like THAT on this team outside of Madolora. But I will admit this has been one of the more frustrating years for RIT fans, and I am sure for the coaches as well.

There is still time to achieve the ultimate goal of making the NCAA tournament. But this team needs to turn it around offensively for that to happen.

Bingo Komey, and that is where the disconnect seems to be. This is a different team and some seem to view it in a negative way and thing its a regression with just half the season played. This team is lacking a Favot or a Brenner to score 20 some odd goals. We had hoped for more production out of Burt who has played well, but like many seems to be struggling with bring it consitantly every night. Combined that with yet another improved AHA feild and you get an RIT team that is finding it even harder to stay at the top of the standing. Odd thing is people seem to forget (or may not know) the last few years of this hockey team history. They are typically right around where they normally are in standing now at this time of the year. Its been winning streaks in Jan and Feb that won them 4 Regular season Titles. What that means is Wanye Wilson coach teams tend to get better as it gets into the second half of the year. So there is plenty of hope. But even if they do not make the NCAAs this year it would be far from a regression. Being at the bottom of the standings or going 5 years without making the tourament would be a regression. Even the power house teams have off years, even the most consitant team Michigan had to win its conference tourament to make the NCAAs a couple years ago, and they also look to need a very super second half to make the NCAAs this year.

With a Four Year turn around and players leaving early you will hit years like this where it will be more of a struggle than normal, especially if the Tigers make the jump to the ECACs. Imagine what this team would be with a Brenner or Tanev, but thats going to happen. Key is staying in the hunt and that is what this team is doing...

Problem I see, as I said before, is that we're not scoring. We were in the same position in previous seasons, but with more goals.

Yes, and were Michigan fans happy with that?

Those were hypothetical questions, in response to people taking the sarcastic "WE SUCK" (not posted by me) the wrong way and saying it was too soon to panic. I was merely asking at what point it's no longer "too soon", and at what point it becomes "too late". They certainly were not intended to be backhanded ways of saying "The number of losses is unacceptable" or "It's too late to save the season". I apologize if they came out that way.

I think it's save to say that they were happy with that. However, Michigan is a more storied and successful program than RIT. They have a history of making the NCAAs. RIT has only made it ONE time. If anyone in the AHA should have expectations of making the NCAAs every time it should be Air Force since they have won every AHA tournament they have been in but 1.

Which is what I said in the first half of my post, this team doesn't have the scoring power of years past, but if we project out the second half of the season. Michael Colavecchia, Cameron Burt, Adam Hartley, & Adam Mitchell are on pace for 20 point seasons. With a little hot streak Brad McGowan & Matt Garbowsky could hit 20 point seasons as well. With a good goaltender like Mads it can still work and the Tigers would still be in the ball park of all the previous 20 point getters they have had the last few years.

To take it a step further, even the Yankees and the Red Sox have missed the playoffs in the last 10 years or so. Yes their fans where not happy, but they are very unreasonable. The point is that even storied teams have bad years. And here we are, in second place, a lot closer than we where when Air Force was something llike 11 points up at the break in 08-09. And some on here have already saying stuff like the season is a failure because we are not in first. Take it from a Saint Louis Cardinals fan, its not where you start, or where you are at the half way mark, it where you finish. Please for all of our sanity get that through your heads....

I blame Al Gore for designing an Internet that prevents people from expressing themselves in written word so that others are not capable of receiving them in the spirit for which they were written! Luckily we still have books, magazines and newspapers to fill the void! :D

Thank you for your time, now back to the subject of hockey

Trying to collect some info on the Tigers latest Recuit from the USHL. Here's a first installment from earlier this month. Hmm... Wisconsin, Michigan, RIT...

The huge difference is that in previous years the win-loss record was similar at this point, but it also included almost all (and sometimes all) of the NC games, which are usually losses. RIT still has four of those to play in the next couple weeks. If they were to (let's hope not) lose all four of those, they enter the second half with an overall sub-.500 record for the first time since 05-06 (which really doesn't count). So in reality, they are not right around where they normally are at this time. Let's hope they win a couple in VT and or WI, keep that from happening, and keep the record around where it normally is. Regardless of whether they do or not, the fact remains that this is the most anemic RIT Tigers' offense I have ever seen. That NEEDS to change for that January/February winning streak to commence. So far, we've seen very little evidence that it will.

No no!! Don't blame Gore, that will get Lerchie making all sorts of predictions and we certainly be doomed!! :D

I am just going to say it, Non-Conference games don't mean jack at this point. They are mean nothing towards the main goal of going to the NCAAs. That team in 2010 didn't win a non-conference game till April which is the only month they mean anything. That is how its going to be until either something big changes in the AHA or RIT moves to the ECAC. Yes they are fun to win, but in the end only mean something to those who think RIT is already a D-I power house...

For those of you on the Corner Crew Facebook page, I encourage you to read my mid-season interview with Coach Wilson. I did ask a couple of questions that seem to be commented about on this year's team.

Good interview Komey, sticking up for my other media guys, Wayne really said nothing new he hasn't said on TV or radio in his post game comments. Not sure if people actually ever catch those. And que Ed for a shameless plug of the WITR Post Game Rewind :D

I think (ok, I know) that you missed my point. I wasn't debating the value of non-conference games. In general I agree with your point on those. My point was that in comparing the team's record this season to seasons past, one needs to account for the fact that in seasons past they had played far more non-conference games by now. So in order to compare how good one may judge this team to be relative to the last few seasons at the break, that must be considered. The mid-to-late-season winning streaks happened once the Tigers got into conference play exclusively. This season, they've already played almost half of the conference schedule and have not fared as well as the last few years, especially on the road. Let's wait until the nc's are completed in just over a week and see how the record compares. If they were to get swept and fall to 8-10-2, that would be somewhat disappointing regardless of your point of view.

Unfortunately unlike some other years where we get relatively tame non-confs (and still lost) this year we're facing two teams ranked in the top 16 this weekend and then have a date with Wisconsin, a team that drubbed us when we were the best we've ever been. I find it hard to think that we'll go on the road and win any of these games..
