They looked good for maybe 10 minutes. I was unimpressed with that game. The defense played pretty well, but in general, it seemed like everyone - including AIC and the refs - seemed to be going through the motions. Against a better team, RIT could have been down a couple goals. The goal AIC scored followed by Knowles hit seemed to wake up the Tigers.

RIT won on talent alone last night. They gotta play a better to win against Robert Morris.

Speaking of Knowles' hit, I was sitting directly behind the glass right there - easily one of the greatest hits i've ever seen.

Anyways, I agree it seemed like they were going through the motions, at least until the 3rd period. Besides Saracino, Knowles and Garbowsky, no one really stood out to me. Overall good game though.

I'm going to say it now...

Besides Madolora, Garbowsky has been our best player this year. I cannot wait to see this kid grow.

Don't look now but Colavecchia has the most goals on the team and is tied in points with Burt. He is averaging a point per game in conference play. Looks like he wants to step up to be that go-to guy that they seem to be lacking.

I like Knowles, and he has a chance to be the Fans Choice award winner (this is the most wide open race for that I can remember). Madolora has been huge. Considering that RIT is traditionally a second half team and a win over Robert Morris puts the Tigers into first place in the conference, I'd say RIT is making the most of their strengths. If the offense catches up to the defense on a more consistant basis, this team will REALLY be tough.

Several really pretty goals on Saturday night... as they said on WHAM 13, "it looked like the NHL". The slap shots were made with a lot of confidence, and weren't flukes. We do have to work on getting the ugly goals, too, right in front of the net. Yeah, we're a little up and down, but overall I think we're looking pretty good and deserve to be in the upper part of the standings. Good chance of being at the top before the end of 2011. Hard to figure out why we're not selling out games, though.

Hard to figure out why we're not selling out games, though.

Not if you think about it. When fans see RIT vs AIC on the schedule, what do they think? ....... "What the hell is an AIC?" (Which I am sure many other schools think when they see RIT on their schedule.)

It's also tough to attract "Casual fans" when you are shut out on your own ice 3 times. If all you know about hockey is that people are trying to score goals, the game is pretty boring without a score.

Not being negative, I have a lot of confidence in this team, I can see why we had a hard time selling out this weekend though.

Certainly the opponent being AIC is a factor. They have been a bottom dweller in the conference for a long time that people may think it's an easy win. I think part of the attendance issue is that games had become so popular people don't try to go to as many games thinking that it's already a sellout. Maybe the Christmas/Holiday season had something to do with it? I'm reaching there since it's a little early for those parties. Maybe the school is figuring it doesn't need to market the games since they have been selling out. Maybe we have had so many home games this early that wives/girlfriends/etc are saying - what about me.

Re: >>>>> RIT Tigers 2011-2012 <<<<< Dreaming is Done, Time to ROAR

Personally, I know my 2 roommates tend to not go because they assume they won't get a ticket. They always wait until Friday/Saturday to decide whether they even want to go or not but then sometimes just give up and don't even try to get tickets since they assume there probably won't be any left. My guess is that there are many people like this; people who wait until last minute to decide whether they want to go or not, but then decide it's too late.

Back-to-back games against a perennial cellar dweller at the tail end of a home game glut during the run-up to the holidays. How many reasons do you need not to sell out?

Those are all good ones. I think people are also tired of not being able to sit for a game (whether real or perceived). I've heard a lot of grumbles this year from people with GA tickets who are unable to find a seat when seemingly half the seats in the arena are empty. I wonder if the new expanded reserved seating sections are considered a "success"?

Off current topic but.......

Nice photo lin-up of the RIT - AIC games on USCHO's front page.

Sure, but the first home game in a few weeks for the students (RPI took place during break, remember) and most importantly the last home games in almost 2 full months. If that isn't reason to get out and see the team, I don't know what is.

Some people might not know AIC or might not go cause they are a bad team, but personally I think that a gaurenteed win with (probably) a lot of goals seems like all good reasons to go to a game as well.

This is certainly a major problem as far as I am concerned. The expanded reserved sections have displaced a whole lot of people, making it much harder to get a GA seat. I personally don't want to sit at the wrong end of the rink in the reserve sections, so it certainly hasn't been a success as far as I am concerned. Besides the reserve sections they also 'hold' a section for the visiting team fans for as long as they can stem the flood of GA ticket holders who can't sit else where. I'd prefer reserve seats all the way around (with the exception of the CC of course) over what they have now.

Here's how you can measure the success of the reserve sections - are a significant percentage (80-90%) selling days in advance or are they the last to sell? I wonder.

Re: >>>>> RIT Tigers 2011-2012 <<<<< Dreaming is Done, Time to ROAR

I'm with you kbranch; make all the seats reserved with the exception of a section for the band and leaving the CC area as GA. Then just sell seats and standing room. That way people know what they are getting. In that scheme, the CC area could be sold as part of the standing room. Also, visiting teams could be allocated a section that is opened up for general sales the day of the game or something. The only downside to this type of scheme is that you do end up with some empty seats each game (as we see in the reserved sections) due to no shows, but given the squeeze in Ritter, that would be OK. It would also get people adjusted to the way it will be in the new arena (I assume ... although I guess some sections could be GA there too.)

On a tangentially related point. Is the BCA game going to remain GA next year? Seating is a bit of zoo there when it is sold out and GA.

That might be difficult for season ticket holders since the BCA is included in our package. I know I go to the games with several other season ticket holders and I don't know how they could work it so we would be able to sit together.

Just talking to the guys, on my hockey team that sometimes come to the Ritter, there is just a general assumption games are sold out. I have also observed several parents with kids trying to find seating which I am sure is discouraging them. I believe the expanded reserve seating has worsened the problem this year. In the GA section I sit in they have marked the bleachers indicating separate seats is this some plan for next year?

I think all reserve with the exception of cc and band area. Then you have a process for turning in tickets you aren't going to use by say Wednesday of game week. Right now if I am not going to use a season ticket and can't find a taker it goes unused. That's a bummer when there are people who can't get tickets. I have given unused tickets to the will call desk before when I don't want to stand around outside looking for a taker.

If the seating goes reserved for most of the rink, it will be interesting to see what the process will be for getting season tickets for the seats you prefer. First come first served, no opportunity for preference, random, "best" seats first, or .... ? Any ideas?

Easy. Current reserve seat season ticket holders get first pick, then the current GA season ticket holders, then anyone else. Do it lottery style within each group to see who gets to pick their seats first. Pick out a section or two for students and let them be the only ones to have those seats, one section for visiting team. Keep a waiting list for subsequent seasons if there are more people wanting tickets than there are seats.
