I'm not sure if some of you have too high of expectations of RIT.

Who says its too high? We didn't make the jump to DI to play around in our little conference pool and be doormats on the national stage.

No offense Lieutenant, but I feel like you were probably one of the people who after the UMASS Lowell game last year stated that Madolora was garbage and should never play another game again. Well, look how that turned out.

You are so quick to lose faith and question the team/coaches/recruitment, what is it going to take to change your mind? Do we have to go undefeated the rest of the season? Win all our OOC games? Perhaps win the Stanley Cup???

Re: >>>>> RIT Tigers 2011-2012 <<<<< Dreaming is Done, Time to ROAR

I think this goes right into what I think Komey is talking about. One fabulous weekend in Albany in March, 2010 and suddenly RIT has to forever "...keep to the past high performance that it has had." Guess what... RIT has not at any time (other than that one great weekend) had a history of being very competitive at all in OOC games, their best season being the year they beat Cornell and Minnesota. If I recall correctly, that is the only season that they've won more than one OOC game, including a whopping 1-11-1 regular season record over the past two seasons. So Yes, RIT has set the bar high relative to AHA play, but No, they have not set much of a bar relative to overall NCAA play. Without significant upgrades to the talent level of players recruited, playing for an at-large bid is a pipe dream at best. I don't mean to be harsh. It is just the way it is right now. Maybe a number of years from now that will be different, I don't know. RIT made a huge quantum leap from a D-I independent with mostly D-III players to a perennial power in the AHA in a very short period of time (1 year). But since then, the overall performance of the program hasn't exactly improved greatly, aside from the FF run, of course. I just hesitate to base my expectations on one "miracle" run.

This is exactly what I am talking about. While we should have high expectations, but there is also reasonable expectations. I feel that reasonable expectations are to be among the top in the AHA regular season standings, and deep runs in the AHA playoffs. RIT should be competitive in their OOC games, and win the occasional game or 2.

I'm not saying this is what I WANT. Of course, I want RIT to win every game. But expect it - not quite.

So where the games I mentioned that we lost. The BC debacle was the day after the Minnesota win. The Wisconsin game was a week after the Albany miracle. The Merrimack game was in January.

Does your "your alias says you're Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the United Federation of Planets..."

You are missing the point because your so focus on RIT being a national power house. Their is a clear pattern of RIT playing better as the season goes on. Yes there are exceptions to every pattern. The BC game was after at the time the biggest D-I win in the history of the program. BC was a much better team than Minn and if you even knew, Nathan Gerbe was in the middle of a scoring streak that made NHL scouts go nuts. The Wisconsin game is not a good measuring game either, as I said before on here it was two weeks after the Albany weekend, press was all over the campus, there was a ton of distractions extra week for Wisconsin to prepare it was a recipe for a tough game.

But again you seem to forget something, RIT was in the Frozen Four in their 4th year of full D-I team!!! What other people forget or may not even know is that RIT was on a down spiral as a national power in D-III for their finals years. They had miss the NCAA for two years, was in the middle of a rebuilding year when the announcement to D-I was made and than that team tanked. The fact that they have won 4 regular season titles in five years, an AHA playoff title, and a NCAA Regional title already is amazing and we already are back to whinning about not being a national powerhouse is ridiculous. Rome was not built in day, heck we have not even broken ground on a new arena yet which is another big step towards what I believe is a chance for RIT to win a national title. That along with a move to the ECAC which I believe is very near... My expectations are high, but again it will take time and you complaining is more than a pain, it is putting down all the hard work of RIT's coaching and players, and I find that sad...

You really know how to quiet a room! : )

I agree that building up a strong program takes some time and it does get frustrating in the early games when they lose but your right, the Tigers tend to put it all together and have made it to the AHA finals in the recent years. I've noticed that some on this board take the play very seriously and there's nothing wrong with that but being as it's so early in the season, we shouldn't be throwing in the towel or call out the team or players for their performance at this point in the season. Now UNH, that's a different story.......

I think the 'slow start' subject has been 'beaten to death' and am hoping we move onto something else more worthy of this thread like how everybody's cheating at AHA pick em which is not allowing me to move up in the standings.

If automatically picking the non-AHA team in OOC match-ups is cheating, then I am guilty :p

The only good part of the weak AHA record against OOC opponents. Its when we get those Sacred Heart vs AIC games that has me getting the coin to flip :)

Who're you kidding SH wins that one, no coin needed.

I think this is AIC's year so you may want to rethink that statement

Year to get out of the basement? Maybe, but I'll still take every team over AIC at least 75% of the time.

I guess you couldn't be bothered to check, huh? Lovely. No, I certainly didn't blame Madolora for that; giving up the tying goal was the whole team's fault.

Just what I said: I'd like to see a better OOC record and a shot at an at-large berth. I don't see why that's asking too much.

Yep, been there, got the T-shirt. An amazing achievement, absolutely. But that was two seasons ago. We should be building on that achievement, but instead, it's the same old slow start. Looks like we got a great crop of freshmen here... but the team is off to the same old slow start. I don't think it's unreasonable to ask 'why' once in a while.

The speed and talent differential between us and Union was embarrassing. Why shouldn't we want our team to be better than that?

still, let's keep it friendly everybody. we all care about the team, no need to get chippy at each other. and remember, these kids are all doing their best out there, and it is very difficult to judge a team on a handful of games. we might have another frozen four team on our hands, or we might have a 4th place finisher in the AHA. (and seriously, a 4th place finish was the most realistic bad finish i could dream up for us, i think we have it ok here) who knows. you can't be sure either way after a few games. we've got to trust that wilson has things figured out.

RIT IS building on that Frozen Four appearace. That has helped get some OOC games against some great programs. Money is being raised for a new arena. The locker rooms are so much better. These are the kind of building blocks RIT will need to build their program to the level you want them to be at. RIT won't be an elite program with what they have now.

Clearly the differance between RIT and Union was pretty startling. RIT is not going to sneak up on anyone like they used to be able to do. Teams know they need to bring their top game. We want the team to be better. But when you are in a slump, it can look really bad against a superior opponant - especially one as motivated by their effort. I'm sure the team was motivated - but they got swamped early and it took a period to get it somewhat togenther.

I can only hope the team isn't bickering as much as you lot are.

It's amazing the petty squabbles that arise and the differences that are found between people supposedly on the same team.

Why would the team bicker? The coach is "the law". ;)

The BU thread was worse after the loss to Holy Cross :)

Are we suppose to sit around and sing songs and hold hands and pretend all is right with the world? Seriously what is wrong with a bit of disagreement? We all have our own opinions and I think most of us are having a good honest discussion.

And on a more pertinent note...I am hoping for two ***-whippings of Mercyhurst this weekend! :)
