Air Force seems to have a goalie situation, now. Torf was pulled from Friday and Saturday's games and Caple started game 3. Neither of them looked particularly good, although Caple held on in game 3.

If Torf doesn't get his act together, or if Caple becomes #1 heading into BCA I'm not sure Air Force is as scary as Niagara or even RIT.

Do you know WHY Torf was pulled? That's confused me since that game and I haven't been able to find out why. He let in 1 goal. Hardly reason to pull your starting goalie...

He let in a second goal that was waved off due to an inadvertent whistle, and didn't look sharp either night. Definitely a huge question mark heading to Rochester.

Would be nice if there was a Brendan Shanahan evaluating the refs at least. I swear "short Ernst" is the least professional official I have seen at any game for any sport

That's pretty bad if he's worse than Boyle was. But I wasn't at the game so maybe he was.

Friday he let in 2 goals and on 10 shots, Saturday was 1 goal on 3 shots - got pulled both nights.

Last game was actually one of his more behaved games... either way he is on my **** list :)

That has got to be one weak goal if you get pulled on 1. Doesn't exactly inspire confidence as a goalie if a coach does that to you

Nothing in the Colorado papers about it either.

Saturday was actually two goals on 4 shots, but one was disallowed (there was a whistle right before it went in--maybe a late offsides?). It was a long shot and should have been an easy save. He came out right after. 4 goals on 14 shots will not cut it in playoff hockey.

One article addressed it. Ramsey is not the usual hockey writer (UConn was NOT the worst team in the league) but still some interesting reading:

At one point this season, I thought I remember a Serratore interview where he thought he might be losing the room a little and had to let his assistant coaches run practice. I don't know the goalie situation remind me of that a little.

The article was pretty down on AFA. I didn't see any of the games obviously, but as an RIT fan I have experienced what Air Force brings in the post season and had no doubt they would make the BCA watching the box score against Uconn. Right now I still think they are on the odds on favorite to win the championship as well

They are always capable of walking away with the trophy, but given their sudden lack of a stud goaltender and how they struggled against a good but not great UCONN team, I think a high-scoring Mercyhurst team might blitzkrieg (ha!) them out of BCA.

As much as it truly pains me to say, I think Niagara is the odds on favorite. Good offense, incredible goaltender, and a ton of momentum after sweeping a very good Robert Morris team. If RIT can pull a rabbit out of its helmet and beat Niagara, I like our chances against AFA or MHurst.

Been waiting for that rabbit to appear since '97...

Re: >> RIT Tigers 2011-12 Part II: Making Some Noise at the House that Roars <<

I get the sense that most people here believe that RIT was clearly a superior team, that they just didn't play well Friday, and Saturday late. I would submit that these two teams are quite evenly matched, perhaps more so than many might think. They played each other 5 times this season (which constitutes are good sample size, IMO), and 4 of those games were one goal victories (removing ENGs). Sunday's 3-0 RIT victory is as far apart as these two have gotten.

I'm not claiming Bentley is in anyway superior to RIT at all. Simply that these two teams are quite close to being equal, with a slight advantage to RIT. Ergo, the talk of RIT simply getting caught not playing to their potential might not be entirely correct.

I would agree that Bentley is tough and certainly a team you cannot take a night off when playing. They are also close, but I still firmly believe that they are not in the top 4 or five of this league. To me you have one group of Teams. Air Force, Mercyhurst, Niagara, RIT, and Robert Morris who are clearly better than the rest of the league and should for a good number of years dominate the AHA final four. Then you have teams like Bentley and Holy Cross who are moving in the right direction but not a power house yet in the league, but certainly demand some respect. Canisius is rebuilding and next year will answer next year if they are still in that group.

AIC & UCONN made some strides the last few years but still need to see if they can keep it up. Army I think is just hurting recruiting wise right now and I am thinking Sacred Heart’s arena has caught up with them, maybe play more games in Bridgeport will help.

As I said they earned some respect from me this weekend, but I still would rather have faced them then a Robert Morris team. It is partly too that I think Robert Morris just matches up better against RIT. Also think if the schedule was balanced then Bentley would have been 3 or 4, or maybe even 5 points behind RIT.
I give the coaches credit, with the arena they play in I wonder how they heck they get anyone worth anything to play in it, but they do. With respect and all honesty, I do not look at Bentley as a doormat, they are a team that I think you have to play hard, but I still think RIT should beat them 8 or 9 times out of ten. If they keep up the good work that may change in the near future…

I think this is one of the most exciting conference final four I can remember in all my years, 4 teams that are 1, 2, 3, and 4 in the standing and seperated by 2 points max. Honestly anyone can take it, percentage wise I put it as follows.

Air Force 30% chance to win it, they have the history that worth something

Niagara 26% chance to win it, think they are playing the best, sound defense, but still not sure about there offense

RIT 24% chance to win it, This team is just as talented as anyone else, the seniors have been there and they will be infront of home crowd. What a way for the Seniors to go out if they can beat Niagara and then Air Force at Blue Cross. Not easy but this team can do it depending on which team shows up...

Mercyhurst 20% change to win it. Young talented team that hung in there so far, really the wild card how will they handle the big stage?

If Canisius had made it, it would have been like putting the old ECAC West back together.

Don't give Elmira any ideas...

BTW, have to give you credit, I sat by some Bentley fans near the blue line for Game 3, they had insults I never even heard for you guys...

I owe a retraction to Mads, I thought he allowed a softie rebound on the second Bentley goal Saturday. However after watching replay it may have been tipped someone needs to check with Burkeholder... Was at least more of a screen than I thought...

While we attempt to be fair and accurate, we make no attempt to be unbiased. :D

What, another multiple OT Semi-Final game against the Griffs? Yikes
I was almost amazed two years ago that the RIT-CC semi ended in regulation.

I said "fair and accurate" not "Fair and Balanced™" -- I'd describe us more as "fair and unbalanced," or to be fair to my compadres, I'd describe me that way.
