Re: >> RIT Tigers 2011-12 Part II: Making Some Noise at the House that Roars <<

I was at the Army - Air Force Game last night (wearing the only RIT Jersey in sold out Tate Rink)! Army DID steal a point from Air Force on a late short handed goal. Good effort from Army and their goalie Leets, they will be hard pressed to steal a point from AF tonight and keep up with the intensity that AF throws at them. Army seemed more physical then Air Force but Air Force seems quicker with better stick skills. Pulling again for Army tonight to hopefully put more distance between RIT and Air Force. This was the first televised game I was at this year, the lady with the 'red' light (TV timeouts) really slowed things down. I think that worked in Army's favor.

TV timeouts tend to help the teams that aren't as deep. They don't have to roll their fourth lines out nearly as often otherwise. I know the RIT radio have noticed that other teams use their top lines more at RIT because the TV timeouts let them rest.

If you were in the orange away jersey, you got some significant TV time. For some reason they decided to show you celebrating after the equalizing 3-3 goal instead of Army fans. Also, the orange really stuck out in general crowd shots. Me and my roommate got quite a kick out of the former!

Yes! That was me behind the Air Force bench. That's so funny that the TV picked up on the only RIT jersey in the crowd! I didn't see the television broadcast (obviously) but I'll see if they put an archive somewhere on the web of last nights game. Youtube has a clip of a sumo race between the 2nd and 3rd periods that a cadet posted ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nvqrhB8xu8&feature=youtube_gdata ) but that is all I could find. If you know where CBS keeps their archives I'd love to know. If you recorded the broadcast or have a clip of that 3rd Army goal and celebration let me know (I have a son at RIT).

The Army fans are great and for the most part they don't give me a hard time (except when RIT is in town...lol). I'll be back at Tate Rink tonight rooting for Army and watching the scoreboard for updates on RIT - Bentley.

Go Tigers!

Helllooooo? Anyone here? Dropping down to the 2nd page on Saturday night is shameful. ;)

Awesome sweep this weekend - and Mercyhurst dropped in a point in a game it seemed like they had no buisness even tying judging from the SOG in a 5-5 tie vs. Holy Cross. Other than that the Western Pod reasserted dominance, just like last night. I'm impressed by RoMo's sweep of UConn in Storrs. Not an easy place to go to and get 4 points, even when they were a bad team.

RIT wins 2-0, Madolora gets his 3rd shutout in a row. Simply incredible.

With 12 career shutouts, Mads is now tied with Tyler Euverman and Dave Burkholder for the career shutout record.

Madolora is 4th in GAA Nationally, tied for the lead in shutouts, and near the top in save percentage (I forget the rank).

Third- .002 off the lead.

Discard the Wisconsin game, and he's running away with all of them (1.56 GAA, .944 SVP).

I think RIT's defense has really improved as the season goes on. When you combine a goalie who is almost never out of position like Madolora and a defense that is always trying to interrupt the other team's offensive flow, you give your team a chance to win. It's important because RIT has struggled to score this season (with the exception of the first game w/ SHU). It'll be nice when Potts and Cornacchia are back in the line-up. Potts should help w/ the offense.

Even better if the Tigers weren't taking sooooooo many penalties. The boys have to learn some self-control!

It's hard to say whether this was a case of bad offense or really good defense by Bentley. Their goalie has been just as good as Madolora in conference. The 2 goals in each game increased their goals against.

Haven't been checking every week, but I assume this just happened. RIT has cracked into the PWR.

The Catamount obviously had a big impact. Too bad the Wisconsin trip wasn't at least a split. Yes, I know it doesn't really matter unless you're in the top 15, but it's still nice to be on the list.

Given their goalie and defensive stats, I would say scoring 4 goals in 2 games is pretty good. They hadn't given up more than 1 goal for some time, I believe, going in to the games and they held Air Force to less than we got.

The offense isn't where it was last year, but we simply don't have a Favot/Brenner line anymore and that is something we need to accept and move on. If we can hold opponents to less than 2 goals a game, I'm extremely confident in us to win those games. Madolora is the kind of goalie who can stand on his head any night and steal wins. Mercyhurst nor Air Force can say that about their goalies (at least with Torf injured).

I've been checking - and this is the first time they cracked the list, unless you count the first couple games.

I believe Torf is back. However, he has quite a few layers of rust on him (let in 2 goals on 6 shots against Denver). He'll probably be back in shape for the tournament though :(.

Looks like he played Saturday against Army, gave up 2 goals on 18 shots. Not great, but you are right, I'm sure he's looking to make an impact down the stretch.

At least Pegula finally had a hockey investment turn into something nice...
Pegula and PSU were able to build this from scratch.
He bought the Sabres and much of their "baggage" already in place. Give it time. There's too much dead wood in the F.U. Arena for him to turn around that train wreck in just one year.

From scratch? Half the team will be club players...

I agree more or less on the Sabres, I am more frustrated at all of those folks in Buffalo who thought that the Sabres just won the Stanley guy cause he bought the team...

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make, but...
First of all, that isn't true. When the PSU D-I squad hits the ice, there won't be any club players on the roster. They'll probably be overwhelmingly young, but they will be D-I hockey players.
Second of all, even if it were a team with half club players, how is that any different than building from scratch?
Third of all, I was referencing a post about the new arena, not the team itself. That will be built from scratch.
