Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' The Ritter For Another Year

First off, I think you have too high of expectations. RIT was #3 in the AHA Coach's poll. I think that's about right with the losses on offense from last year. I'm not saying we shouldn't be able to compete for NCAA tournament berth's, but expecting to beat middle of the road ECAC teams on a consistant basis is a bit much for this team right now. The ECAC does not have a lot of differance between the 7-10 spots.

That said, you are correct that 0-5 is not a good start. But for the way they have played, you would have expected that they would have won a couple, except for probably the Clarkson game (don't know - couldn't listen to that game due to a wedding I attended). But the team has made a couple mistakes that have cost them games. As has been said many times - make a mistake and it will cost you. There has been a few mistakes that have cost them games.

I will say this, this is not like 4 years ago. That team was severely undermatched in every game and were lucky to win games that they won. This year, they have shown that they a lot closer to the level of ECAC teams. RIT will win it's share of games and will be in the hunt for that elusive berth.

And for the guy who said RIT can't beat the best AHA teams:
Last year - RIT 6-2 against teams that went to Blue Cross in the regular season.
The year before that: 4-3-3 against teams that went to Blue Cross.

They can beat them and they can beat RIT - that's why they are one of the best teams in the conference as well.

Komey said it pretty well here. Let me take a step further, looking at the schedule when it first came out, I had the thought that RIT could start 0-5. Now to be honest they played better in about all the games I've seen them play in this year than I thought they would. Given the fact no wins came from that was dissapointing. Coach Wilson has been a broken record, but is very right when he has said "Happy with the effort, not happy with the result."

Saying that let me say this, I never normally say a weekend is a must sweep. But I think this one is, this team needs all four points. I think this team could have a run mid season like last years team does. Just looking for some scoring to click, when it does look for this team to make some big noise. DeMike I think will be alright, he didn't play well against Clarkson, can't offer a valid opinion on the Air Force weekend. Wilson has kind of made it clear by the moves so far, DeMike is the guy, and not sure about the #2 guy, all though I was close enough to the bench at Saint Lawerence to see that Wilson had 40 below 33 for that game.

Give this team a chance, they will be right there, really tough playing your first 5 games against the best teams you will see all year. I see them right there in the top 3 still, Air Force, RIT, and Mercyhurst will be fighting all year neck and neck. Look for Holy Cross to make things interesting too.

Can't wait for the weekend, hey anyone going to be there early? I have the Komey platform all fixed up and improve with wood legs and higher than he was. more heavy though, if anyone can help carry from my car shot me an e-mail wnymule@roadrunner.com

Hey radio guys: What's wrong with the "HALFTIME" cheer?

Also an update for fans at the game: apparently the rumors of a trip to Alaska are not borne out by the schedule the radio guys got a peek at.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' The Ritter For Another Year

OK, I'm just full of questions tonight.

So supposedly, according to RIT's Sports Information department, tonight's win was Wayne Wilson's 189th as RIT head coach, more than anyone else.

This number is reached by counting 9 wins in 2005-06, our Independent year. We can only get to nine wins that year if we count the pre-season exhibition game against Waterloo.

Those pre-season games (like this year's W against York) aren't counted in any other seasons -- just 2005-06. Why is that?

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' The Ritter For Another Year

I am putting my panic button away for a couple reasons:

1. The power play was working well
2. We didn't give up the lead in the second (though we did let down some)
3. We won on a Friday night

However if we lose tomorrow I'll be thinking about pulling the button back out :D

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' The Ritter For Another Year

Yes, the second period was the let down again. At least it was not so critical this time.

On the halftime cheer ... I don't know what the radio guys said, but I thought it was funny ... once. I was actually going to mention this once last year, but it seems really stupid to do the halftime countdown during a power play (either way) since the players might think the end of the power play is being counted down (a more logical cheer). Tonight, I saw two of our players look up at the clock during the halftime countdown to make sure the power play wasn't over.
As much as I love the corner crew cheers, I think the halftime cheer makes the corner look stupid and it kind of embarrasses me as an RIT fan when I hear it.

OK ... rant over ...:o

Great win tonight. And congrats to Coach Wilson on becoming RIT's winningest coach.

Ugh, yeah, the halftime countdown embarrasses me (and everyone I sit with) every time we hear it. How can people not realize how distracting that is to your own team? The corner crew is great, but they always seem to forget there's still a hockey game going on at "halftime". Wins are better than cheap laughs.

If the team pays attention to what the corner crew does then they aren't really focusing on the game.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' The Ritter For Another Year

Embarrassing was the drunk kid standing on the rail behind me (right behind the RIT bench) screaming "go USA, Canada can suck my d*ck". Luckily he wore himself out by the 2nd period. Probably the worst fan I have ever see at the Ritter and the closet I have come to getting into a fight there (at one point he sat next to my gf and he wisely moved in about 15 seconds). Cameron's Burt mom and sisters were sitting right in front of us too. Luckily they aren't Canadian. If anyone noticed the goalie mask thrown onto the ice this was the kid that did it. Not a shining example of our fans. As much as I like having a couple beers before the game I behave myself and I can see why some would be very against beer sales at games.

Anyways back to the game. I really liked what I saw. Demike looked on his game and made 1 or 2 really impressive saves. Tanev (for the most part) doesn't look like a freshmen out there. I can see why Wilson is so high on him. McReynolds had a great game. He made a great glove play to keep the puck in their zone that lead directly to one of our goals. He also stayed out of the box while still playing a very physical game. He down right plowed through at least 2 huskies. Looked like Adrian Peterson highlights :) Although when he got the puck in front of their net all alone he looked a little lost ;) Looks like Murphy was pretty confident stick handling out there though he was holding onto the puck a little too long. I was surprised to see Brenner as a scratch though, is he hurt or is Coach just mixing things up a little?

I'm just happy there aren't cheers for the end of the first quarter and third quarter. ;)

Brenner has a leg injury.

Or a round of "Take me out to the ballpark" during the 7th-inning stretch!

Well ... considering all the media* timeouts, there's ample time for that.

* They are NOT media timeouts; they are TV timeouts. Nobody in print or on the radio needs to interrupt the game three times a period!

A couple thoughts.

1. We aren't the only team that does that "halftime cheer" - RPI does it as well.

2. If the HALFTIME cheer embarrass you, I can't imagine what you think of some of our other cheers.

To answer RITprof's question - the team should draw energy from the crowds cheering - that is why they cheer. If they are paying attention to what we are saying, well, that's a differant story - we want the opponent's doing that.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' The Ritter For Another Year

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' The Ritter For Another Year

I'll gladly take the half time cheer over Phil Amsler adding "AND YOU'RE UGLY" to every goalie taunting session. Or the DJ playing Sweet Caroline at any other time except at the end of a game when we have a significant lead (aka, not the first period). Or the incessant hand raising and groaning of the Corner Crew when they think there should have been a penalty on perfectly legitimate plays. (if you don't know the rules, raise your hand *clap clap*). Or maybe the blatant over-use of the Hey Song at improper times (say, over-top of the band playing Eye Of the Tiger...).

There are a lot of things wrong with the Corner Crew, enough so that I think I can let the Half Time cheer slide.

Another thing I was thinking about last night, is that we know RIT tends to come out flat in the 2nd. They did okay yesterday, but they could do better. I think something that really helps them pick their play up is getting the whole crowd on their feet, like we tend to do at the end of games if we're down and need a goal. We as fans, should come out in the second as loud as possible. It might just help.

The exhibition games should not count...and I checked my media guide and they did count 9 wins in 05-06 (which INCLUDES the exhbition)...which would put Wilson at 188 wins AFTER last night...

but a little more research in the media guide finds another mistake - they count the record in 2001-2002 as 21-2-2, but not counting exhibition games, I count 23-2-2...which would mean the last win of last season, the quarterfinal win over Holy Cross, would have been his 189th win...

someone messed up somewhere.

I emailed Joe Venniro and he said they decided at the beginning of the independent season to count the exhibition games that year. It doesn't make any sense to me, but it was intentional.

I count 23 non-exhibition wins as well on USCHO. The only thing I can think of is the Chase Tournament wins don't count for some reason, but I can't imagine why. This does seem to be a bigger discrepancy than the one I noticed. I don't wanna bug Joe again so soon though. =)
