Hey gang,

Frequent RIT ref Peter Feola is going to be officiating in Vancouver next month. The Rochester Ice Hockey Officials Association is holding a fundraiser so his family can travel to BC and watch him.

Watched the Air Force - UConn game on CBS College Sports tonight. Dave Starman was doing the analysis and mentioned a few times that he felt Ritter was one of the top five rinks in D1 to experience a college game.

Some random thoughts on Friday's game:

-Great wrister by Knowles on that first goal

-Horrible decision by Knowles to get cute on his partial break away

-They broke up Matic and Alexin, w-t-f? shock of the year? :D

-Smith out Janda in not sure it made much different but added some size

-My dad told me after the first period that if HC was more talented that period could have ended 3-1 HC. I tend to agree, see next point

-Schizo defense, sloppy turn over leading to DeMichael having to make a great save but would give up a bad rebound which the defense would clear out. Not sure if this is a net positive or a negative :)

-The fourth goal seemed to really deflate HC

-HC coach must have really wanted some points to pull the goalie with over 2 minutes left

- 44 on HC really wanted a piece of Burt and McReynolds and vice versa. We'll see if the bad blood continues tonight

- HC goalie made a great save on Favot on the power play in the second period. Everyone around me for sure thought that was a goal.

- HC is a one line team (Cyr, Sheen, Sheahan)

- Burt is a monster on the puck, hopefully the puck starts finding its way into the net more for him.

-Lines I observed and my take:

Brenner - Favot - Mazzei - Would get get great chances I just think Mazzei should get swapped out for someone like Murphy

Murphy - Burt - Matic - Did ok, Burt had a strong game. Matic has to get used to playing in a offensive role

Alexin - Cornachia - McReynolds - Filled their role as a checking line, and contributed offensivly by putting in a goal

Hartley - Janda - Knowles - Knowles had a good game just don't get cute next time :)

Nice thoughts ... on the above two, fortunately you only have to be better than the team your playing.

So I came across Bemidji's website.. they are building a new hockey arena for $20 million bucks.. here is the link to see the building..not too bad for $20 million.. what does everyone else think?

http://bemidjievents.com/

according to the overview, it will have 4,000 seats along with 25 event suites... seems to be exactly what people were looking from earlier posts

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' The Ritter For Another Year

Great to see RIT get the shutout. I think most of my points were still applicable from Friday though things seemed to tighten up slightly on Saturday. I will say Burt is really beginning to frustrate me. It's great that he can control the puck for so long but do something with it! Dance around the zone for 15 seconds with the puck only to turn it over without even so much as a shot on net or a scoring chance.

Air Force got lucky and pulled out a tie on Saturday with a goal coming in the last couple of minutes even though they put 59 shots on net. It would appear Uconn's ability to shutdown a stronger team has not changed with the loss of Larson. RIT is now tied with Air Force in the standings with 4 games in hand. Mercyhurst is only 1 point ahead with 4 games in hand on them too. Time to take care of business.

Looking at the standings I thought it was interesting to note Air Force's GA/GF ratio in conference seems rather uncharacteristic for them. RIT has by far the lowest GA's and even if you factor in having played less conference games than most other teams I don't think this would change. Good for our defensive corp and DeMichael :)

It's Hobey Baker time again, RIT has 3 guys up :)

~Cameron Burt
~Dan Ringwald
~Jared DeMichiel

Have at it!! Maybe we can get at LEAST 1 of them in the top ten this year???

Air Force is in a monster funk right now, so who knows. In any case, the Tigers cannot afford to look past UConn, especially with the fact that RIT still seems a bit inconsistant on offense.

Dan Ringwald is the only serious contender (to get into the top 10) on that list, concentrate the voting there :)

I like that. The seats are steep which is something we need to make sure the new arena has. People keep citing Miami's arena, but I think their bowl is too shallow. We either need really steep bowl, or to have a balcony. Feeling like you're on top of the ice is just impossible to beat.

Yes, the BSU arena is definitely another nice example. And the $20M price tag includes more than the arena as it is also a conference/events center.

Anyone notice that the red and blue lines are reversed in the rendering (and all the people are in summer clothes)??:D

(Credit where due ... the rendering mistakes were discussed in the BSU arena thread way back when they came out.)

Nice results this weekend by future conference opponent Robert Morris.

It is but what were they doing the rest of the year? Was Miami just that over confident? Or maybe overrated?

I like that everyone is standing up to watch the world's largest Zamboni clean the ice.

Anyone going to UConn this weekend? I'm not going to the alumni thing before hand... so does anyone know what section the RIT fans will be in?

Some random thoughts on Friday's game:

-HC coach must have really wanted some points to pull the goalie with over 2 minutes left

That is more common when trailing by 2 goals. I thought actually he was to careful and waited to long to pull him in the second. I think Wilson post game comments on the second game summed it up best...

“I thought all the periods were really good if you look at the opportunities that we missed. We have to keep finishing off our chances. I thought it was a good job defensively as well and that’s just as important, and we didn’t get frustrated, and we did a good job.”

- Borrowed from Russell Jaslow Recap...

Looks nice, The design kind of reminds me of what I saw at First Arena in Elmira. Not sure about the even suites though, just not sure your going to be able to sell that many. To sell those you need Business to buy them, it may work in Bemidjii, but not sure if it would in Rochester...

You make a good point on selling the suites.. however, the powers that be could decide to eliminate the suites altogether (or have limited amount, no more than 3?) but having them there would be useful, especially if we have top level people coming, i.e. AHA commish, etc plus we don't need to charge an astronomical amount to rent the space for a game much less the year..plus it can be helpful with recruiting to have recruits be "wined and dined" at our games without breaking ncaa rules..

any ideas about how to get $20 million? Obviously Golisano is unavailable due to his relations with the Sabres.. would anyone have an issue with an out of state or out of town company having naming rights if they pledge any money to the project?
