That result against Sacred Heart is really surprising. Guess they did a little more hard partying on New Years than they should have. Really would have been nice to pick up a W in that early series against them at the beginning on the year.

Really Surprsing doesn't even do it justice, it is beyond shocking, there is blood in the water now. This weekend is key, a spilt or better and RIT sole postion of 1st with 2 games in hand and has UCONN and AIC on the road to follow. Unlike last year where the Tigers were set up to take a run to catch Air Force, they now are set up to run away from them. If the Tigers can match Air Force and Mercyhurst point output the next month and a half playing middle to bottom feeders, they could have a chance to lock up another AHA regular season title against Air Force at home with the Canisiuis series to follow.

I still can not figure out Canisius, after a big win against Colgate (who promptly was handled by Niagara) they go out and play a horrible game again Guelph. They were outshout 29-11 with just about all their top playrs in the line up, they did start their 3rd goalie, but it would not have made a difference...

It really does put RIT in a great position. This should be a good weekend for RIT. While the earlier HC games against RIT were tight with 1 ending in a tie HC isn't having a good year and RIT should be able to come out with the sweep. Though their away record is def better than their home. Hopefully the outcome of the games at Minnesota State and the chance to run away with the league title has got the boys a little extra motivated :) The series against Uconn has me a little worried. For whatever reason Uconn has the ability to shut RIT down at home, that might be a split weekend.

Canisius is a little tough to figure out but I fully expect them to be at the BCA at the end of this year. The one team to watch out for is Bentley. I think it was 2 years ago they were playing in the Ritter and almost their entire starting lineup was freshmen and they were impressive then. I figured give them a couple of years and Bentley will be a team to watch out for. They might surprise a team during the playoffs this year.

Boo to 3-4k. I don't even know if 3-4k seats would warrant multiple seating levels like some people want

A little late to the party here, but I have also heard things in the 4K range (using Clarkson's arena as a model???) I agree that 2-tiers would not be worth it for 4K. I think 3K would be a waste of resources, but 4K is probably more likely than 5K (although my preference would still be 5K with a balcony).

Hopefully some wealthy trustee's stock portfolio is running back up...

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' The Ritter For Another Year

Those OOC do have more meaning than their given around these parts but those under-18 are entirely meaningless. I rank them some where below an exhibition against a Canadian school and the orange and white game.
To be clear, I dislike the USU18 games, Canadian exhibitions, and Orange and White games all the same. But, I think they play with more intensity in the USU18 games than against Canadian teams, which is certainly seen with their physical play against them (and, those games do mean something to the USU players too). Part of the reason may be that they're a Canadian laden team playing a bunch of Americans, and part of it may be that many of those kids are headed to solid pro careers (for example, Patrick Eaves, Jimmy Howard, and Ryan Kessler were all very active in the box score against RIT in 2001-02, and they have all logged NHL time).

I dislike pretty much any exhibition and have little problem skipping most of them, but I think the difference in RIT's ability to compete well at the Ritter versus at their facility in Michigan (or even at the BCA) over the years remains valid.

You're probably right on both counts though I think RIT plays pretty hard against the Canadian schools as well. At least the Canadian schools are actual other college programs despite being outside the NCAA

I always said 5-6K for a new arena because 3-4K is going to get outgrown quickly, then what do you do? The coaching staff was always interested in preserving the atmosphere and crowd advantage; I think they underestimate demand for a new arena, though. A balcony is a must for keeping things close to the ice.

I actually think AIC may be the bigger threat to steal some points, Larson (UCONNs) goaltender has left school, leaving them with a bigger hole than normal in the nets...

Well hopefully some other Uconn goalie doesn't get into the heads of RIT forwards like Larson. Checking out the AIC schedule results there is nothing impressive about it but its always possible to drop a random game to a team RIT "should" beat. AIC usually takes a point or 2 away from RIT a year it seems and its probably time they do it. A 1-2 point weekend against both AIC and Uconn would throw a monkey wrench in the works though it would make AFA fans happy. When considering intangibles for games overconfidence is always a concern guess we'll see if its a factor in the upcoming games.

A 3-4K arena would likely work for the AHA version of the Tigers. If there are any thoughts of the ECAC, then 5K is probably a must. Build an arena with a 3K+ bowl, but definitely design and build the building with future construction of a 1-2K upper level in mind. Make the seating steep enough that the "right on top of the ice" feeling is retained. The shallow seating at the BCA and other arenas makes it feel like you need binoculars to see.

Oh yea, NHL sized ice too....

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' The Ritter For Another Year

I think that a 4k rink would be plenty large enough. That would essentially double the capacity of Ritter. That would be far and away the largest AHA rink capacity. And even for the ECAC that would be above the average (~3200). That would be large enough to expand the fan base but not too large that the place never sells out.

For me there are two "must haves" for a new rink. NHL sized ice, period. And the ability to keep the great atmosphere. That feeling for the fans of being on top of the ice and the ability to make the place "rock" when near capacity. I personally do not like balconies but I am not totally against them either.

One thing I hate in a college rink...luxury boxes. I hate, hate, hate that corporate feel of them. Ruins college athletics.

What is the AHA regular season scheduling format for next year when we expand to 12 teams? And are the additional teams eligible for the AHA tourney right away?

Did Niagara and RM begin shedding scholarships this season?

Don't know about Niagara and RM.

The conference will be split into an East and West divisions. Teams play divisional opponents 3 times and non-divisional opponents 2 times (5*3 + 2*6 = 27)

That AIC, Bentley, Holy Cross, Sacred Heart, Army, UConn East division is going to be a powerhouse !!!!

Of course, that's only if they keep the divisions true to geography.

Ha, I'd totally put luxury boxes in my design.

Thanks for the info.

Assuming RIT is in the West and the regions are geographic, this means that we would play Air Force in a single game at their venue or ours each season to reach a total of three games in a year. Not such a big deal when they come here because they can tack on another division/conference foe in a weekend. But going out there for one game will bite.

I would not want to be the scheduling coordinator for next season.

Not really, we can always add a game, play Colorado College in an OOC game if that's the case, or go to Denver, and play the university of Denver and then go to Colorado Springs for the AFA game.. schedule would depend on if the game is on a friday or saturday.. if the AFA game is on saturday, go to Denver, then AFA or if its Friday, Play AFA then colorado College (not to be confused with U of Colorado)

Could also play AFA twice and predetermine which one is the conference game. Teams like St. Lawrence and Clarkson often play nonconference games against each other.

I also really like the Miami arena (only seen pics), but would want a full set of seats all the way around. One end there is kind of sparse with just a balcony-like area.
