>>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' Part 2 - The Playoffs

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' Part 2 - The Playoffs

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' Part 2 - The Playoffs

I know the Witter guys (still getting used to Witter vs. WITR) wanted to ask Coach Wilson about the 4 PM over 7:35 PM-- did anyone hear his response?

Coach Wilson's response was essentially what I responded to Tom with. And he said it was a league mandate, though he would take the early game if it were his choice.

(And I'm definitely trying to get used to "Witter." I've been saying 89-7 W-I-T-R since late 1979!       )

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' Part 2 - The Playoffs

Ok would someone explain to me why RIT is playing in the first game? Who came up with that, all most everyone else in College Hockey knows it better to play a team that is hosting in the late game!!!!!!!

That will be a drag on attendance, Whiskey Tango Foxtought, can anyone explain this to me???

Because in Coach Wilson we trust!!!!:D

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' Part 2 - The Playoffs

RIT has lost every 7:30 playoff game they have played at Blue Cross. Maybe playing at 4:00 will help.

Also, RIT is as of now a TUC since they are 25th in the RPI. Not that it matters since they cannt get to a place where they would be an at-large (a few non-conference wins would look good right about now) but it is nice to see RIT "technically" considered.

The last time RIT was in that spot they were ineligible for the NCAAs.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' Part 2 - The Playoffs

Yeah, it's easy to understand Wilson's rationale. But, will it murder attendance? I think so. Last year's game only drew 2,555. I wouldn't be surprised if this one is at around 1,500. So, that's a bit of a disappointment, especially because the atmosphere could have been pretty good with Canisius bringing some fans (also less likely with the afternoon starting time). (Heck, I'm not even sure I'm going to be able to bail out of work in time for the 4pm start.) Even pushing back both games a half an hour on Friday could help attendance a bit, but it's probably set in stone.

But, if they can finally pull out a semifinal win, they'll make up for the tiny semifinals crowd in the finals. Let's hope they can do it.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' Part 2 - The Playoffs

Sure.

1) The team playing in the early game gets 3 1/2 hours more rest.

2) The team playing in the early game doesn't have to scout the other game before it plays its game. If you lose, you go home. If you win, you watch the other two teams.

It may be a drag on attendance, but it's an advantage for the top seed, especially if one or the other goes to overtime.

Ed's right. Last year after Air Force beat Bentley the guys had a chance to get cleaned up and watch a good bit of the RIT-Mercyhurst game. There's always a chance the nightcap goes 2-3 OTs, and then you have that much more rest. Get the hay in the barn when you can. Air Force has done well playing in the early games. This year will be interesting.

Not one of management's most shining decisions. It sounds dumb to my ears.

Unlike the first game when RIT allowed overmatched UConn to tie the score at 3-3 and didn't put away the Huskies until overtime, the Tigers continued to dominate Saturday and wound up breezing to a sweat-free 4-1 victory.

Yeah, it's easy to understand Wilson's rationale.

That ... and that he had no say in the matter. Not his decision (as Ed pointed out above and was discussed on "witter" last night.

So can we Twitter to Witter while sitting in the Ritter watching some big hitter?

(OK, I stretched a bit too far for the last one. Sorry.)

Thanks Ed, I know the advantages for the number one seed and why Coach Wilson would want that game, its me your talking too. Economically it makes no sense for a league that needs every penny, I think you've been hanging round Lerchie too much...:D

The real question is how much crowd is this going to cost RIT? Will this also keep Canisius fans from making the trip??

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' Part 2 - The Playoffs

BTW, Miami of Ohio and The "Full of themselves" Ohio State University is playing a 3rd and deciding game tonight in the CCHA tourament. If Ohio State wins it could have big effect on RIT regional placement (yes if they make it)

The Niagara's upset of Bemidji State really could go either way in keeping RIT from Saint Paul. Barring any other big surprises in conference touramnet champions, RIT should be the 15 seed. They would play the 2nd team, right now Miami, making RIT destination Fort Wayne, In. Now if Ohio St pulls an upset that could let Wisconsin in which could make RIT go to Saint Paul, depending on what The NCAA decides to do with Saint Paul, they could send Denver, but figure Denver is going to have to fly anyways, so they could put Wisconsin in Saint Paul and Fly Denver anywhere...

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' Part 2 - The Playoffs

Just wanted to comment on Saturday's game. I was standing on the blue line, and had fairly good sight lines for three of the five goals.

The first UConn penalty was completely bogus, but it had no effect on the overall outcome. That was about my only complaint with the officiating. Feola falling was fairly amusing, though.

As the friend I watched with said during the warm-ups, there was a clear difference in the talent number between the two teams.

This was my first trip to the Ritter in a spectator capacity (I've skated on the ice a couple times), and I was impressed by the atmosphere and the barn itself. The "tradition" related to the barn, championship banners, trophies, display cases, etc. was pretty nice.

The other aspect that really impressed me was that the Corner Crew signed the "T-I-G-E-R-S" and "R-I-T" cheers. With the large deaf population at the school, I see that as a great outreach attempt.

I can't wait until the home-and-home that the Engineers and Tigers play against each other. And, good luck at the BCA.

Miami in Ft. Wayne is not the ideal matchup for the AHA champ. That's going to be a virtual home game for the Redhawks. If things ended the way they are now with possibly UAH in Albany and the AHA champ in Ft. Wayne, it would be interesting to see if the committee swap the two if RIT or Sacred Heart won the AHA bid.

Glad you enjoyed the game burgie. The Feola fall was quite amusing.

The signing is something that has only recently started - either this year or last, but it is cool even though I can't sign well (and especially if we try the R-I-T chant quickly).

One thing I will add is if UConn could get Bartus some help, they will be a very tough out in the future.

Bracket Integrety is a top concern. Barring any intraconference matchups, I don't see switching the AHA champ out of Ft. Wayne.

EDIT: A cursory glance at the PWR shows that even if Ohio State were to win, Miami would not drop below the #2 seed since even if theu lose the RPI comparisons, they would still win the others.

I'm not the PWR guru, but I think there is still a shot at Denver dropping to #2. That would put the AHA champ against DU and maybe that would mean an Albany or Worcester game. If that's the case, I think I might have to become a Miami and "whoever's playing Denver" fan for the next week or so. (Not due to any preference of opponent, but to have a shorter trip should RIT make it.)

Denver would have to lose to someone other than Minnesota St-Mankato to lose the #1 in the WCHA Final 5.

RIT or another AHA representative could possibly get a #14 seed, but would take some considerable upsets for that to happen.

Well, that sucks.....405 start takes this long time (19 year) fan and family out of attending the semi-final game.

Ex-chickenboy has travel tryouts at 6pm so we would have made the 735pm game.....

Oh well. I guess it will save me some $$$ and increase WITR's numbers.

Go Tigers.....

This might have stemmed partially from the band. Before the pep band was sandwiched between the penalty boxes and the Corner Crew, there was a large and dedicated group of deaf students/faculty/staff that used to sit there and who would always have a interpreter. As the band grew and usurped more seating area, the interpreter spot became the conductor's spot while the deaf fans still came in droves. Knowing a full six letters of ASL, the conductor started to spell out Goon's pre-game yelling. Perhaps this is where it began; I don't know-- I haven't been back much since.

At least you don't have light pneumonia. (Yes, that's why I was absent at both games this weekend. Sorry crew!)

I'll see how well I feel and then maybe go Friday.

Yeah, somehow I missed that comment. The fact the league mandates it makes less sense economically, but good sense from a "fairness" perspective (giving the #1 team the best possible slot). Hey, as long as they don't yank next year's game out of here because of poor attendance. But, this conference tournament will be a tough draw anywhere unless the home team is involved. With two Buffalo area teams in the league next year, with one of which a near lock to be in the top four, you wonder if that could be tempting. But, then again, I'm not sure HSBC Arena would be interested in what could be a real modest draw.

With that said, there's no reason this game can't draw a lot of students; most students don't have classes on Fridays. So, hopefully RIT will work something out with buses -- and maybe they'll subsidize tickets for freshman to some degree -- to help make up for the lack of casual (and some diehard) non-student fans.
