Re: >>>>RIT 2010 Offseason Thread-"You have to be a genius to go to RIT"

A quote from that article: "Unlike the Miami student section, the students from RIT were allowed – nay, encouraged – to stand the whole game."

Can someone clear this up for 'cause I'm not sure what this means. Are the Miami students really not allowed to stand? And if not, who doesn't allow them to? The school? The fans?

I wasn't in the Miami section, but I was up in the 200 level in the 6th row out of 7 with no one behind us and we were told to sit down before the starting lineups were finished. It was rather lame.

At The Goggin students stand anytime players are on the ice, they were just referring to Ford Field in that article.

Re: >>>>RIT 2010 Offseason Thread-"You have to be a genius to go to RIT"

Re: >>>>RIT 2010 Offseason Thread-"You have to be a genius to go to RIT"

The problem was that the RIT section was made up of all students primarily. While the MIami section wasn't The first 10 rows or so were students and there were a lot of older folks sitting behind them who didn't want to stand the whole game and called down security to make them sit down.

Anyways, just wanted to stop down and congratulate RIT on a great run. Your fan base was by far the bright spot of the weekend. They were the loudest of any of the fan bases and had some creative chants. I wouldn't be surprised to see a few make it to goggin next season.

Cool scene saturday night with the RIT and Miami students joinging into one and they were the loudest of anyone even of the two teams playing. Made it a fun night, so wanted to stop by and say thanks for their enthusiasm and congrats on a great year!

Re: >>>>RIT 2010 Offseason Thread-"You have to be a genius to go to RIT"

I think Wilson has the job he wants. I just don't see him leaving RIT - even if it meant more money or a 'bigger university'. I remember reading a comment from him about how he had planned on being a division III coach when he took the job and that the move to DI was unexpected...

Yeah, but do you see Hills staying as an assistant or associate head coach for the long haul? I know he has ties to the area and RIT, but still, the day is coming.

Ahh, the memories...

Ahh, the memories...

Coach! Coach! Coach! (I'm sure some of the older folks here remember when the corner was at the other end of the ice and we would cheer the coach as he walked past us to get to the bench? That was before the remodeling like 10 years ago. You see, back in my day, there was no netting, we would just get hit with pucks that went over the glass and give them to kids, and we would wear an onion pinned to our jerseys, as was the fashion in those days.)

Oooo, good and bad memories brought back with that post. Took a puck to the “bobos” one game while standing at the rail top of the corner. Fortunately, a low velocity shot. Didn’t give it to a kid, but instead offered it up to the girl I was with that night. Bad move... got me nowhere. Then again, after taking a puck to the crotch, it was probably going to be an uneventful night anyway. I learned that night... always give an acquired puck to a kid. Always.

With regard to “Coach! Coach! Coach!”, began my RIT Hockey “career” sitting up-front off the faceoff circle adjacent to the corner. Coach (Deventhal) would always accept our offering and take a pull of Swedish Fish on their way by to the bench.

Awesome article! I had a blast cheering with you guys! A game between Miami and RIT would be awesome!!!

A third-place game on Saturday afternoon would have been fantastic.

If you could have coaxed the Miami fans out of the hole most of us crawled into after BC didn't even have the courtesy to use some lube. ;)

(I was one of the few there on Saturday for the record!)

Would have been pretty fun though.

Haha yeah we were sitting right next to each other, I was the one wearing a white Miami sweater with a Tigers hat on Thursday, and I think a black Miami shirt on Saturday. Small world :)

I kinda doubt either team would've wanted to play after the results on Thursday.

I don't know if anybody caught this, but Bowling Green just hired a Miami assistant coach to be their new head coach, which means that neither Wilson nor Hills will be going there, as was speculated in the season thread. Good news for the Tigers.

Coach! Coach! Coach! (I'm sure some of the older folks here remember when the corner was at the other end of the ice and we would cheer the coach as he walked past us to get to the bench? Not sure if we really had to worry about that, at this point RIT is a better job the Bowling Green, there also a lot of questions about that programs future...

Of course, to quote Tom, I may be wrong.

Becareful man, there are some on here that will tell you that you are wrong to quote me, but I think that is mostly because I have an annoying habit of being right most of the time :D

I don't know, Tom. I think if we asked around, most people would say that I quoted the most correct thing you've ever posted ;)

This part of the contingent from Robert Morris agrees 110% RIT (students)made all three games a lot more enjoyable than the score indicated.

Re: >>>>RIT 2010 Offseason Thread-"You have to be a genius to go to RIT"

Re: >>>>RIT 2010 Offseason Thread-"You have to be a genius to go to RIT"

I've been to 15 Frozen Fours and I honestly haven't ever seen a showing by a fan section that didn't have a team in the game. I heard more than once from media people here, "I have to get to a game at RIT."

I heartily second that. I've been to 14 of the last 16 FF's (missed Denver and St. Louis) and have NEVER seen anything like the performance of the Corner Crew at this year's event. You guys epitomized the spirit of what is so great about the Frozen Four experience. It's a bunch of die-hard college hockey fans getting together to celebrate the pinnacle of the sport they love together, team allegiances be da**ed (to a point). I've seen plenty of schools' fans that do a fantastic job of supporting the event even when their team is not there (North Dakota, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Maine, Cornell, etc...), but never have I seen that kind of response from such a large group of fans of one of the teams that was there and lost in the Semi's.
I always knew the Corner Crew and RIT fans in general were great, but never really had a reference point as to if they / we stood out from any of the other great fan bases out there, having not been to very many other D-I arenas (Niagara, Northeastern, and BC being the only ones). I'm sure there is great support for other teams out there, but I'd have to say that right now, you guys (and girls) have set yourselves apart from the pack. Great Job!... Now you / we have to live up to it and even step it up in the future now that everyone's watching.
I do have one problem with the criticisms on this thread of the older RIT fans that were not standing and rowdy the entire game like you guys, though. Although my seats were not in the RIT section, if they were I may have been one of the fuddy-duddy's down in the front as well. Nothing against supporting the team, but it comes with age (and having a kid who is scared by cheering). Believe me, I was standing and loud back in the day (although not quite to Corner Crew level by any means)... I was once given the finger by a Canisius player at Nichols Prep arena back in the '90's and I also screamed obscenities about an Elmira player while unknowingly sitting right next to a gentleman I discovered later was his father. Now, I choose to leave the fun stuff to you guys while I watch, listen, and enjoy it thoroughly. To each his (or her) own, I say.
That being said...

THANK YOU, TIGERS!!! clap...clap...clap...clap...clap
THANK YOU, TIGERS!!!clap...clap...clap...clap...clap

WAY TO GO CORNER CREW!

I can't wait for next season to start so we can see what the Tigers do and what you guys come up with to try and top this year (if I can get my hands on what promise to be very hard to get tickets, that is) :D :D :D

Coach Wilson wins the 2010 Spencer Penrose Award as Division I Men’s Coach of the Year. He won ahead of Jerry York, whose Boston College Eagles won the national title, and Enrico Blasi of Miami (Ohio) University, which lost to BC in the other semifinal.

Much deserved. http://www.atlantichockeyonline.com/news/2009-10_News/wilson041410

Congrats Coach....You guys did a great job, not only with the Hockey team, but with overall school/campus/city spirit.

I had a bunch of friends (Alums) that pretty much hated thier time at RIT email me (knowing I was a hockey freak) asking about the hockey team.

They put some School Pride in those of us who wanted nothing to do with the school anymore. Thats a pretty big feat.
