Any else notice UCONN is having an outdoor game with Sacred Fart? Wonder why they did not invite us :D

I know this is tongue-in-cheek, but in case anyone reading is confused -- it's probably because the schedule was already determined and UConn just had to go with whoever was on the schedule that week.

Was thinking, one thing not being talked about in the Tanev situation is RIT scholarship situation. Not saying that would have affected Tanev's situation, but can see its more likley that a player may stay an extra year and try to improve his pro standing if he had a scholarship for that year. Otherwise seems like a no brainer to get paid $100,000 in the minors than pay $100,000 to play in college...

Just a thought...

Maybe if he were Drafted....

Pretty sure he wouldn't pay anywhere near 100k if he stayed four years anyway....I didn't pay near that with Aid/Grants and I was not an athlete.

But your point is well taken.

if i am not mistaken, Since no one owns their rights, once a player goes undrafted, they are an UFA. So they either have the choice of going pro; or not signing and playing another year(or more since you may not get the offer next year) in college and risk injury. I don't think there is a choice here. You go pro.....Especially with what they offered him....

Yeah, regardless, it's a no brainer. He, like almost all RIT players, was a relatively old freshman. Once you graduate at 24, it's hard to get looked at by the NHL. Most RIT players won't get looked at as true NHL prospects so that doesn't matter, but for those that do, leaving in their freshman or sophomore year probably has to happen. Once you hit 24 or 25, it's pretty much Europe or the lower leagues.

Re: >>>>RIT 2010 Offseason Thread-"You have to be a genius to go to RIT"

Didn't he get the max entry level contract? Waiting another year might have only put him in the range of a 2-year entry-level instead of 3. I don't see how he could have done better.

I'm all for the players staying and getting degrees, but the prospect of nearly $160K/yr for the next three years (AHL + bonus) is sweet enough that nay freshman should leave and consider finishing their degree later. And should be make the NHL, even for some short stints ...

It seems clear to me that he was made an offer that was too good to refuse.

I think the outdoor games are getting over done now. But since its such a money maker everyone wants a piece. Problem is you are forced to play a game that counts on crappy ice conditions (though they are getting better at it) and unknown effect from possible snow/rain/sleet/sun/wind. Though I am a total hypocrite because I would be all about a outdoor RIT game :)

Quick Google search found the following about size of NHL defensemen...

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/hockey/nhl/2003-01-06-hockey-school_x.htm

6-2, 210lbs in 2003

I am sure that has gone up a little in the last few years. Tanev would not be the biggest guy out there, but he would not be undersize by any means. We are not talking to small to play like a Zach Parise or Brian Gionta here ;)

I heard about this. It's pretty much happening in my back yard now that I moved to Hartford. I think the real reason they are playing that game against SH is that they wanted something relatively local. This is being sponsored by a group that wants to show that hockey is still a draw in the Hartford area. They are basically trying to get the Whalers back. In fact the whole thing is branded with Whalers type stuff. The outdoor game is part of a hockey doubleheader with UConn's woman's team facing Providence (that might be the real hockey game to see.) All that said I'm not exactly expecting this to work.

I didn't know you guys had moved. It'll be hard not seeing you two around.

I'm thinking after the Frozen Four, the RIT boys should be ok with playing on crappy ice conditions...

So when I was lined up at the Corporate Challenge Thursday night at RIT they made an announcement that: "Hockey tickets go on sale in 3 weeks". They did not specify for what team (I assume RIT since that is where I was) but this seems really early. I haven't gotten emails for season ticket holders. Anyone else hear anything about this?

Someone else told me this too and I found it strange. First of all, this is before RIT typically announces their schedule. In the past two years, the schedule was released the first week of July. In the past few years, tickets have gone on sale mid to late August.

I have not heard anything about it though.

I have not heard that either. And the only ticket info on ritathletics.com is:

2010 Atlantic Hockey Quarterfinals at Ritter Arena (March 12,13,14):
Adults - $10.00
Students - $5.00

Reserved Section:
Adults - $12.00
Students - $7.00

2010 Atlantic Hockey Championships at Blue Cross Arena (March 19-20):
Adults single day - $18.00
Adult weekend package (both days) - $32.00
Students single day - $12.00
Students weekend package (both days) - $22.00
Children ages 2-12 single day - $5.00
Children ages 2-12 (both days) - $10.00

2009-10 Season Ticket Packages go on sale Sunday, August 30 and will remain on sale through October 3.

My guess is whatever is going around is a rumor. They haven't even released the schedule yet.

I wouldn't say it was a rumor, probably just a misunderstanding. I heard it was Mary-Beth Cooper who announced it, so I don't think she would make something up or pass on rumors. Maybe she just meant that the schedule will be released in 3 weeks, which would follow past years.

Yes she got up (before the race) and said "I'm only here to let you know hockey ticket go on sale in 3 weeks". I was there and heard this first hand so its not a rumor :)

DeMike should make an apperance, he had the logo on the back of his helmet to bring back the Whalers, all though to have a little fun with are Liberal freinds here...hehehe

Native American names for team are to offensive for the NCAA and some people. What about a hockey team being named after a group of people who hunted some animals to extinction or near extinction... :D

How could they ever get the Whales to sign off on approving use of the name? Most of them are dead, and the ones who survived don't have opposable thumbs. :p

Has anyone heard if DeMike's has signed anywhere. I'm surprised that after the playoff run her had, and the signings of Ringwald and Tanev, he doesn't have anything yet.
With the whalers logo on his helmet the Hartford wolvepack should be all over him. And yes I do realize that that's not their logo. I simply mention it b/c he's from CT.

Some of us were discussing this last night. If RIT isn't playing at home that weekend we might try and get a group together to crash the outdoor game and "Frozen Four" them. ;)

Heh, my friend from Hartford and I have a similar plan.
