RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

Not to mention overzealous physical play leading to bad penalties (I'm looking at you McReynolds... even though he's one of my favorite players due to his intensity... so maybe that's not fair).

favorite player as well. He is over physical and usually his physicalness throws the other team off balance, but it wasn't flying at the UML game, and he took it a bit too far. Although, I was very happy for him to get the start.

some props from one of the guys over at the rpi forum -

Changing the subject: I watched some of a TV rebroadcast of the RIT-Lowell game played last week at the AHL building in downtown Rochester. The crowd was announced at over 10,000 and they were raucus all night.

ECAC fans could take a cue from the RIT supporters. Those who saw them at the NCAA regionals in Albany last year will probably agree. They have a band equal to most in the ECAC and their student cheering section is superior to most in the east, with the exception of Cornell, UVM and UNH. They are mostly dressed in orange, are loud and supportive. Their cheers and shouts go beyond the standard, "you suck;" "he sucks;" the "refs suck," etc. It should be interesting to see how well they travel this weekend for an early season non-leaguer.

always nice to see, i think. it would be nice to make a good showing this weekend, as well as next weekend at cornell. some team specific chants would be nice too. rpi has the incredibly original nickname of 'the engineers' and i believe union are the dutchmen, we can work with both of those.

RIP Craig!
You and your family will be in my prayers.
I saw many games durring the Calder Cup run in 96. What great memories I have because of Craig.

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

Where was UNH last year at Albany? I didn't see much of a cheering section.

Watching UNH play at home / around the MA area is interesting. Not much of a student section. More middle-aged fans who sit on their hands most of the game...

Tigers picked up their 3rd recruit for next year, all out of the BCHL.

Bradley McGowan - F (shoot left) 6'0" 175lbs DOB 4/9/1990.

This is his 2nd season in the BCHL, and so far he is HOT, with 15 goals and 16 assists in 15 games to lead the league in scoring. i will definitely keep an eye on his progress this season.

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

that seems a bit forced, but it could work. it won't work at rpi or cornell though, where rit fans will easily be outnumbered. i had been thinking along the lines of adding a loud "sucks" in the quiet immediately following red, or maybe even something just before it. though it isn't the most creative, something like that would probably succeed in ticking off the rpi/cornell fans.

and of course, we need to say home of the tigers at the end of it all.

Please don't add "sucks". RPI doesn't add "sucks" to "UC" or "Knights" (our two rivals). And, they don't because it's not a part of the anthem. All three of the other phrases (Red, UC, Knights) are a part of the anthem. Sure, it's not musically correct, because why would you put emphasis on those words normally? but it's a way of expressing school / team pride. Just don't add sucks. It's a shame and a slap in the face to Francis Scott Key and people who serve in the military to make "sucks" a part of the national anthem.

Agreed, I would hate to add the word "sucks" anywhere in the anthem. To me this is similar to the adjustment the Corner Crew makes to their greeting of Air Force and Army during warm-ups.

On the contrary, burgie12, some of our fans do choose to add "sucks". Union will do it to "red". However, I do agree that it is a slap in the face.

Please don't mess with the anthem that way.... It will not reflect well on the Team, the School, or the Fans....

yep, i understand. there, i killed the original posting. i don't see a problem with it myself (i am an army civilian) but i can see the case against it. not looking for any trouble, i was just thinking of school specific cheers and that was the first thing that came to mind from the rpi games i have been to.

anyway, to get the thread back on track, i have heard that the band will be at rpi friday and that there is an alum event at union saturday night, so there should be solid away fan showings for rit. hopefully the team can pick up a win or two on the weekend. it would be nice to have some OOC wins heading into the league sets.

It seams like we are certanly getting more physical. we went toe to toe with a very physical St. Cloud team, and significantly outhit UNO. It makes for exciting hockey seeing guys on the other team get flattened. But many times I have seen guys go after the body when they had a prime oppertunity to make good play by going after the puck. I love seeing the physical play, but IMHO i think they boys need to learn to recognize their oppertunities to make a play with the puck a little better.

RIT traditionally takes a few more penalties. To me that is the price to pay for being one of the more physical teams in the AHA. I also think that is a big reason why RIT has been successful in the AHA - we outhit and outwork teams. If you look at the stats, RIT is only averaging 13.3 PIMs per game. As long as the penlaties are not stupid and selfish penalties, I'm ok with it. What RIT needs to do is be able to draw more penalties from opponents. That may be easier with teams that are not used to being hit as much as RIT does.

Some of our fans do. But they're also the ones that walk out of the arena with ten minutes left in the third. So, are they really "fans"?

Ah yes, the old familiar sporting straw-men come out.

Really, it has more to do with idiocy, classlessness, social ineptness, and inadvertent narrow-mindedness: choose at least one. Doesn't mean they aren't devoted fans. Some are, some aren't. I doubt you really have any conclusive information to back up your claim.

Pretty easy to find counter examples, though... like our good buddy Zyklon.

Speaking of classless, did anybody else see that idiot pretend to be whacking off on the big screen in the 3rd? I can't believe the camera man kept going back to him and put him up on screen again.

Tigers need to beef up their defense in the 3rd periods. Giving up too many goals is killing us for the time being.

Got the feeling that even though they tied, it felt like a loss.

Nope, but I did notice he kept putting up some girl that was trying to flash the camera.

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

how has the power play looked this year without ringwald and tanev? that was one of my big concerns heading into the season. ringwald especially was great at moving the puck around and positioning himself for passes.
