Not the kind of score updates I want to get on my phone....tonight will be better.

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

well, uh, our band was better?

RPI fan and I must say that your band did sound louder than the RPI band but that may because I was one section away from them. Best of luck the rest of the season to you and your team, your going to do good things in AHA.

rpitv.org has posted video of the entire game online.....commentary via rpi's radio station

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

Some thoughts I offer up for debate

- I am not calling for hitting the panic button, but last nights poor showing at RPI was perhaps the most disappointing game I have seen since Air Force in the AHA semi-Finals in 2008. RIT is still a team that is trying to find itself and fill the holes left from last year. Last night was just one game, but highlighted some of the biggest concerns facing RIT this season.

- Besides the question of who was going to fill the shoes of the departed DeMike, the next big question was how the Tigers blue line was going to be losing two big seniors and Tanev leaving school early. What really concerns me more than anything was who looks bad. Trever Eckenswiller really struggled last night and has seems to be trying to find his game since coming back from injury last year. Haltigin has been better, but these two need to be RIT best two defensemen for success this year.

- Chris Tanev do we miss you. Big problem last night in the offensive zone was passing from the blue line especially on the power play. RPI two high forwards were extremely aggressive all night and left backside wingers open all game. RIT defensemen failed to get the pass through and when they did get it to the forwards it was always in their skates. Cost at least 3 great scoring chances. Shots from the point did not get to the net either with enough consistency.

- Forwards needed some help from the defensemen on the offensive end, but they got out skated and out hit for the last 40 minutes of the game. I thought RIT played a good road first period, but was dominated the last 40 of the game. Makes it all the more bitter cause this was a great game they could have been in. RPI wanted it more

- On the positive, Cameron Burt scored what will probably be in the top three goals of the season. He completely undressed an RPI defensemen and snuck the puck in 5 hole.

- I think tonight is a big big, did I say big, opportunity for the biggest RIT Goaltender Josh Watson. From the games I have seen so far, Ropponen has played better than Madolora. However he still allowed a big softie last night on a wrap around. A lot of us have been looking for Josh to take it and here is his chance. If you have not notice Robert Morris is off to a hot start and next Fridays opening AHA game at the Ritter will be a showdown. Wilson may have to make a big decision early on his goaltending...

Play List for two thoughts

Bob Segar - Turn The Page
Twisted Sister were not gonna take it
Anchor Away and Notre Dame Victory March - (Watching Notre Dame @ Navy)

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

Going by Coach's post-game comments, Watson gets the start tonight.

Good, I've wanted to see him play. Kinda wanted to see him last night, but my usual take is coach knows better than I do.

Quoted for truthery; with the addendum that I think that passes in general, not just from the point, seemed to be an issue last night. The whole team seemed to have bad or maybe just plain careless passing going on in all areas of the ice. It is encouraging because this is an area that can be rapidly improved upon (unlike, say, being undersized) but it is annoying to be having the issue in the first place at this level of hockey.

well, uh, our band was better?

I was next to the RPI band, and we could hear the RIT band really well from across the way. I did like the RPI band going to the student section to do the Alma mater, the Colbert theme(with eagle screech from the very passionate conductor) and the Monty Python music(with King Arthur and Patsy with a coconut riding around the arena).
The RPI fans in my section were very complimentary of the RIT band, too.
I went with 4 RPI fans yesterday, so I'm looking forward to sitting with the RIT alumni group tonight!

yeah i am not trying to take anything away from the rpi band, they were good too. (though i am not a fan of those super-fast generic fight songs myself) i was more commenting on the fact that not much else seemed to go right for us last night. and though allowing 4 goals isnt a great line, that was more telling of our defense as i thought ropponnen played well. the wrap-around goal they got is inexcusable, but he made some real nice (or at least lucky) saves later in the game, including a nice one on a 1 on 1 breakaway

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

RIT showed up on time - that has to be taken as a plus :)

Robert Morris is off to a great start - but they have played a low level of competition it seems. They played AIC (0-4), AFA (0-4), and Ohio State (1-4).

RIT can get REAL healthy after Cornell with Air Force, UConn, Niagara, and Sacred Heart after this. The Tigers should get at least 4 wins out of that.

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

So, does anyone have that odd feeling in the pit of their stomachs that tonight will determine the RIT goalie for the rest of the year?

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

The pit in my stomach is telling me this might be a long, long night for the Tigers. I hope it's wrong.

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

- i think the scoreline is not a fair assessment of how we played tonight. they were definitely better, but i think we kept up and matched them for most of the game. at the very least, i think we looked better than yesterday, though they made us look downright silly when they had the man advantage.
- if today was the day to decide things for the rest of the year in goal than it is not looking good for watson. madalora came in for the 3rd, and watson didn't even come back to the bench for the period. not sure what happened there...
- we had the puck in their end for long stretches in the 3rd. i am glad the boys were able to keep up the fight even with a lopsided scoreline. at the same time, i don't like the actual fighting at the end of both tonight's game and yesterday's. and i should have bet someone that mac reynolds would have gotten himself involved.
- those early penalties killed us. i think it was 3 in the first 8 minutes, and it led to i believe 2 of their goals. a bad way to start the game, especially because they were all stupid penalties. the boarding and the charging could easily have been avoided.
- i think the aha needs to steal some refs from the ecac. the refs for both games this weekend were pretty solid.
