Regardless of his skin color, it's amazing that a guy reportedly holding a SAK with about a 2" blade has to be shot several times. Even more amazing when you realize that police in the UK don't even have guns and somehow disarm people with knives without killing them. In Germany, a guy had a machete and was shot in the leg once. Lived. Police here seem awfully eager to jump right to lethal force and don't seem to care who dies.

Getting beyond Priceless' point. For some people, especially black people, it doesn't just "sort itself out." More often than not they're not just getting a warning, they're getting arrested (possibly losing their job or kicked out of school just for getting arrested) and facing serious charges with only an overworked, underpaid public defender to help them.

More often than not they're not just getting a warning, they're getting arrested (possibly losing their job or kicked out of school just for getting arrested) and facing serious charges with only an overworked, underpaid public defender to help them.

Forget it. There is no problem in America and no matter how hard people try to show them they just aren't going to see it. They don't want to see it. They just want to live in their special little cocoon where everything is fine and no one else's problems matter.

The point is, interactions between white people and police officers are different than interactions between black people and police officers. What you and I will end up with a warning on, black people will face charges for.

It would be nice if it didn't have to be about race, but it is.

I'll give my #crimingwhilewhite story: I was 20 getting *faced with my brothers and we were shooting each other with an airsoft pistol in the front lawn. We went inside and 5 minutes later we had two cops at our door. What'd we get? A lecture and a warning. No weapons charges, no MIC, no searches for drugs, no being detained while our house was searched. I have no doubt in my mind things would've been a lot different if I was black.

And while I agree with him that doesnt make what has been happening of late any better. If you dont think race has played a role in some of this you are being ridiculously naive.

Are the vast, vast, vast, vast, vast majority of cops good and fair? Yes absolutely and they have my utmost support. What happened in Long Island though/ What happened in Cleveland? It is a bit disingenuous to ask people to suck it up and deal with it when cops can kill an unarmed black dude on camera and not get charged with it. Then they have to hear a bunch of white privileged jerkoffs in the media talk about how it was justified because the dude was big and fat even though there was 5 of them.

The cops in those incidents are bad cops and there has been zero justice. Why cant they be ****ed and scared? If you were a black man and not a white dude living in the suburbs wouldnt you be?

Maybe if the majority of good cops came out against the bad cops people would feel better...

It bothers me greatly. And it is more than race in most cases, IMO. It's general criminal conduct. If any of the past nationally covered cases were white-on-white, or black-on-black...how different would the coverage be? Ask yourself that.

It would have been different, but we cant just ignore past race relations because this isnt Alabama in the 1950s.

You want to play the meaningless hypothetical game, if lets say Garner was a fat white man saying the same stuff and acting the same way do you think he is dead now. Gut feeling do you think cops choke him and kill him? I dont. Do you think if Garner was white they get indicted?

Do I think 90% of cops would act that way...no. But we arent talking about them we are talking about the cops who did what they did. (including the black officer...she is just as guilty) What they did is wrong, and I am sorry but the black community has every right to be ****ed and scared by the results. Cops are supposed to defuse situations and use force only when necessary...black, white, red whatever what they did was wrong. Add on the injustice served by the grand jury and if I was a black man right now I would run and hide from all cops.

edit: ultimately, what is starting to become really evident is that we have too many cops who arent trained well enough. (not ny fault of their own) This needs to change...
