Soap: sucked. Same with Barney Miller. Parents watched them all the time, they were terrible shows.

Glad to see Scarlet having a good time.

ctf: ask where Mt Kumoniwanalaya is.

I was more a Cheers guy. And the guilty pleasures of Three's Company, The A-Team, and The Dukes of Hazzard. Night Court was pretty awesome too. Dan Larroquette owned that show.

The one with his head in the locker is better. The maniacal laughter is what seals it.

Re: Rep Retirement Thread 133: I still hate you all

I had more trouble with my stats class at Tech than any of my calc classes. Must be the way my brain works.

I've found engineers get rolled when it comes time for their statistics class... I have to believe its a different kind of thinking... statistics is nothing but mathematically applied philosophy... great that it works... it approximates reality well enough... but I have to think that after all the applications in physical sciences one then jumps into a field which is inherently intangible... so its sort of a shock. At least that's how I figure it.

To the engineer, I'd say that statistical methods, when applied, can approximate processes and nothing more... can never be exact. That doesn't help in the classroom, but that's my take.

I always liked tutoring/working with the engineers because while they may not have gotten it they tend to be straight-forward people.

So it's kinda like saying:

Engineers: 10 + 10 = 20.
Stats guys: 10 + 10 can = 20.....or 4, if you're talking binary. Or to be technically correct, 110?

Re: Rep Retirement Thread 133: I still hate you all

I had thought about it, but calc was muc more valuable in the long run as I prepare for civil engineering.

Almington, I plan on trying to do two years at UND an then finish in Iowa City. I loved it when I visited, I just can't due $36,000 a year. I was born there, and I've been a life long hawkeye fan, especially football.

Nothin beats a pizza and the playoffs! (other than an ice cold coors light with it.:x)

Transfering schools is a pita and will add at least ~1/2 of a semester. Add in taking a co-op/internship for a semester and your looking at 5 years to graduate most likely.

Where do you get $36k a year for Iowa? Out of state tuition is ~$18k (that's what my bills say, then the university pays it). The other 18K are living expenses? Get a job, seriously. Work on campus for your first two years and then find a prof to work with in research for your next two.

If you have your heart set on going to Iowa; my advice would be to strongly consider moving to Iowa for a year, live and work to get residency then go to Iowa with in-state tuition. Not sure that it would be the best option for you, but it is would save you up to $18k in tuition (minus the cost of living in Iowa for a year over what you make working). Transfering means that you never get the chance to build those lifelong friendships that are formed living in the dorm that first year (or two). Just something to think about.

I don't recall where I read it, but there was a study done by some group that stated the students who work an average of 20 hours/week average a third or half grade-point higher than those with no job at all. I forget what the difference was to those working full-time in addition to a full class load. At this point it no longer matters to me, so look it up if you're interested. It shouldn't be too hard to find.
