It's a perfect day to leave calculus out of the equation of life wise guy!;)

You are correct with it being end of the year, it's the last of the stuff we'll learn. I've struggled a little bit since hockey was in full swing since about decemeber, but the last 6 weeks or so has been the super tough part.
Same thing happened to me in AP Calc. I breezed through the first semester with minimal effort, but the end of the year stuff I found very difficult.

Luckily for me the only Calc class I had to take in college was Applied Calc, which was all the stuff I found easy.

Good to hear, I'm not overly worried about it, just always trying to stay on top of things.
If you are talking those classes in HS, then you should be fine entering an engineering program. Calc is just a hard class for many, and while you do need to know it and has a basic understanding of it for engineering, it isn't super critical to be an expert in it: you'll just look up what you don't remember anyway.
That's what I was thinking as well. In addition, there's a lot of applications of calculus that can be done in the computer now anyways. I figure even if I earn the college credit this year, I'll take Calculus I next year anyways, just to master the basis of calculus and my understanding of it.

Thanks for the support guys, i appreciate it.

Almington, are you an engineer?

Re: Rep Retirement Thread 133: I still hate you all

For those of you complaining about calc, you should give multi-variable calc a try...That shiat is brutal!

Thanks I'll pass.

I've been a practicing engineer since 1981. I've been licensed since 1984. I've NEVER used calc since I took the FE exam in 1980.

So I've heard...

Finally awake for the day. Sunburn isn't AS painful, and isn't peeling! Yay!

Also, my terrible no-good broke my heart ex had court today for his OWI/possession/paraphernelia. Reeeally hoping for jail time.

Have you ever considered writing lyrics for C&W songs? Your life as posted on this thread seems made for it.

Almington, are you an engineer?

I'm in grad school for environmental engineering and science at UIowa currently. One of my bs degrees is in chem eng from UW.

Engineers need to be able to apply calc principles; whereas most math departments teach calc from a theoretical perspective. if you are just struggling with one or two of the concepts you'll be fine, if you are struggling with the whole class you'll have problems.

I wouldn't waste my time taking the class over if you get a 4 or 5 on the AP exam. Just move on to calc 2, you'll have plenty of time to refine basic calc skills.

I have a TI-89, I don't have to know how to do any of that basic calc stuff anymore.

Re: Rep Retirement Thread 133: I still hate you all

I just got a revision of a tax form for my 2009 (not 2010) taxes for a stock that I own. It amounts to about $10.

Re: Rep Retirement Thread 133: I still hate you all

I also haven't used calculus as an engineer either, but I understand the need to learn it as the concepts help reinforce everything else you learn when getting an engineering degree.

closed circuit to MNS: Good call on Homeboy...been listening to it the last couple days, helluva song

Uh-oh. Trying to dupe the feds by providing bogus info on your tax return. They're gonna throw the book at ya.

Be sure to give us your mailing address once you get settled in the Big House.

How did the oreos come out????
Just finished making the dough for them, and now I need a new electric mixer...

Anyway, time to start dinner. Venison steaks sauteed in butter with roasted broccoli and baked potatoes.

It weeds out the posers. Another good class for that is Calculus based basic Electrical circuits.

But it is in my favor. :D (I would have less income since part of the dividend has become a return of capital. However whenever I sell the stock my tax basis would be lower.)

Does a very good job of weeding out those who are either not willing and/or able to put in the time and effort required to get a physical or applied science (aka engineering) degree.

I hated my circuits class. I didn't care, the TAs didn't care, the professor didn't want to be teaching, and everyone knew that no one else really cared about teaching/learning. In that class we were allowed a sheet of notes in the exams, the professor handed out a "review" sheet that was basically the exam without any numbers, and the TAs held a review session where they went over how to solve the problems on the "review" sheet. You then copied the answers onto a single sheet, went into the exam, copied the answer onto the actual exam and then plugged in the numbers, easiest exams I ever had. I can't think of any class where I learned less, that includes the classes that were just repeats (undergrad then grad) of other classes that I have taken.

Getting money back from the feds? That's even worser. They hate refunding money. I'd contact your lawyer right away.;)
