Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 98: Favorite Alter Ego

Lil loves the Avs because when he was 2 he loved Ray Bourque and Ray was traded there. He retired but Lil was hooked.

Nothing wrong with that. I was just providing the two most common reasons for some people disliking them. :)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 98: Favorite Alter Ego

People dislike the Avs for two reasons:

1. The fans that started following the team during their 1996 playoffs run, and think the Avs are "T3h Gr8est Expansion Franchise EVAR1!!!111!!" when they weren't an expansion team.

2. Some combo of Lemieux/Roy

It has nothing to do with the Nords, who couldn't even sell enough tickets in Quebec City to justify keeping them there, playing in an undersized arena in what was the second smallest major league market in North America (only Green Bay is smaller).
No Lemieux/Roy left there and Bourque won a Cup with them so GO AVS!

Only an idiot could lose money on hockey in Canada.

I always liked Quebec because they were fun to play on NHL'93. Joe Sakic and Owen Nolan and Mats Sundin? How'd they ever lose? :o

I don't remember anything before the age of 4... sadly I do remember Ray Bourque's last game... my 2nd of 2 Bruins games I've ever gone to... my 18th birthday present... "if you only went to this game if you were given tickets for free" --Boston sports radio, post-game.

I remember watching the game where Detroit hung 10 on Roy when he was with Montreal and he then demanded a trade from there because they didn't pull him when he probably should have been pulled. Good times.

And Claude Lemieux is a dirty SONOFBEYTCH!!!!

The story goes that he asked to be pulled when it was like 7-0 or something, but the coach forced him to stay out there until it was 9-1, thus eventually leading to the infamous "I am the greatest" gesture towards the crowd after they sarcastically cheered an easy dump-in save. He claimed all of this was an attempt to deliberately embarrass/humble him.

Regardless, that incident initiated one of the worst trades in the history of pro sports.

The co-worker that I work with the most brought in dessert for everyone during lunch, to celebrate finding out that he and his wife are going to be having their first kid. He was really excited, so I'm happy for him. :)
