Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 98: Favorite Alter Ego

You know what makes me excited? This is the first year that I wasn't claimed as someone's dependent. Last year, my parents pulled the cheap shot and claimed me (the only assistance they provided was tuition while I student taught and help on my deposit for my new place after I left RC), and it took my return from over $300 to $28.

That kind of sucks. At least when my parents did that, they gave me half the money they saved by filing me as a dependent, and we both came out ahead.

Ok. Email sent. We'll see what this is all about.

Probably just looking for a story to tell and to get details from those who are going. Hey, it's free publicity for you and CHA at least. Make sure to get lots of boobs and beads pictures from Bourbon Street.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 98: Favorite Alter Ego

my parents did that to my sister she was royally ****ed... she ended up owing a bit if i recall.

edit: actually, I think my father did it to the both of us... but I made $9K with tutoring at UML and a single semester of TA work at UConn.... my sister was working on two movie projects so she made a bit more than i did at the same age timeframe.

it happened to me in 2008. My parents forgot to change me to a non-dependent. It ended up screwing us both over.

My dad tried to have me as a dependant last year, since I was still young enough for it to happen. Too bad he didn't realize that I made too much money during my half year of working for him to be able to do that, so the tax man basically told him to eff off. :p

It's mid-January and there's still many games to be played in the regular season, let alone conference post-season events and the NCAA tourney. National rankings don't amount to a hill of beans right now and the PWR won't start to take on real importance for several weeks.

However, as a longtime WCHA fan, I must say it's heartening to see that five of the top seven teams in this week's poll are WCHA schools [Denver, Wisconsin, Duluth, NoDak and CC]. Given the fact that no WCHA has so much as made it to the NCAA title game in the past three seasons, it's nice to see that there may be some legitimate NCAA championship contenders in the conference this season.

The series matching #1 Denver and #3 Wisconsin this weekend looks like it will draw the most attention in college hockey circles. :)

Well, the PWR are 83% accurate at this point in the season. :p

Ah, so there's still hope... ;)

Awesome day on the slopes, not a big crowd and was basically ski up to the lift. The mountain got maybe half a foot of wet snow, but it made for some nice skiing. However, my legs are rubber now, which will be interesting come broomball tomorrow night.

Did I miss anything important since 7am?

I am a Ravens fan. And a colts hater.
I still find it hard to cheer for the Colts....irsay.
I was going to ask why the hate for the Colts -- I'm from Indiana, and was living there when they arrived, and have lived through some bad, bad years of football. Then you reminded me of the circumstances of their move. I wonder if Nordiques fans feel that way about the Avs.

Shootouts are awesome! Hooray for five point weekends!
 Whoa! Just last week we had the explanation of weekend points, and I don't think you can get more than four points without jailtime or a mule involved. Or, like, a team of strippers. :D

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 98: Favorite Alter Ego

hello? earth to Dave. that's why EVERYBODY hates the Avs.

People dislike the Avs for two reasons:

1. The fans that started following the team during their 1996 playoffs run, and think the Avs are "T3h Gr8est Expansion Franchise EVAR1!!!111!!" when they weren't an expansion team.

2. Some combo of Lemieux/Roy

It has nothing to do with the Nords, who couldn't even sell enough tickets in Quebec City to justify keeping them there, playing in an undersized arena in what was the second smallest major league market in North America (only Green Bay is smaller).

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 98: Favorite Alter Ego

Lil loves the Avs because when he was 2 he loved Ray Bourque and Ray was traded there. He retired but Lil was hooked.
