Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 98: Favorite Alter Ego

Yikes- Good Luck MEUSA!

Well first off, I didn't actually see a doctor in the ER. I saw a Physician's Assistant. The doctor came in for about 15 seconds, shook my hand and left. I got fine treatment in the ER - the PA was great and she came up with the course of treatment that the attending just OK'd. But she's my PCP and I would like to meet with her since, well, she is my doctor and I have something wrong with me. I want to talk to her about this - discuss the course of treatment they provided and what I should do if it doesn't get better, etc. Why are you questioning that? It scared the **** out me to wake up yesterday to see this all over me and I want my doctor to treat me/see me in person rather than trading voicemail messages. So to answer your question what is the doctor going to do? I'm hoping she does her job.

Sorry if I came off wrong- I was running out the door when I posted and I was flip. I heartily agree that someone should be talking to you~ not via voice mail. If you had spoken to an actual person they might have been able to be a bit reassuring and give you the impression that someone actually understood what is going on. Doing it via voicemail is shaky (and I would be scared medical-legally if I was them). Can't speak for your Dr's office but around here with the shortage of primaries they triage just about every Dr visit and go by medical necessity.

Concierge medicine is about the only place I know where they see people who want to be seen without some sort of screen. (BIG bucks to get into one of those things!~~a few thousand dollars to get in and that is in the burbs. )

Did we know about this? I think this should be the official snack of tLodge: A bacon explosion

2 pounds of bacon?!

I believe it was posted about 10 Lodges ago (was featured in the New York Times). I have a friend (well, technically, he's tcbg's friend) who might be willing to make this. I will have to consult the male powers that be and find out.

FTR - one of the IT guys (uber geek) at work says that Cable may be faster, but DSL wins the race. I can only get DSL where I live, and use it for gaming (MW2 and other online games) and only notice slow downs when my wife is doing a bunch of emails with big attachments or is streaming video.
I have been known to turn off the wireless and claim it's "broken" while playing MW2. I have an ethernet line run right to my Xbox. So far, she's none the wiser
My experience with DSL is, it's decent with downloads (torrents and other files) and low res streams but is pretty poor at upload en mass(pictures, seeding torrents) and high res streams (watching TV episodes from CBS, CW); lots of buffering. I don't own a laptop, but if I were to lose power, I still have the intertubes.

My $.02.

Did anyone else get an email from USCHO/NCAA asking to take a survey? I just got it, and took the survery, because it seemed like a better idea than working. It was fairly long and detailed about my interest in hockey and different levels of hockey. Hopefully they put the information to good use, I figured if I can tell the NCAA how much I enjoy NCAA hockey, that can only be a good thing.

Hahahahahahaha. That's Comcast.

At the old apartment, there were some pinched cables from when they came out on a prior service call that were causing intermittent outages. The tech comes out, opens the box (thus un-pinching the cable), runs the diagnostics, finds everything is okay, and proceeds to slam the box shut re-pinching the cables.

Awesome. Everyone has stories of Comcast's pathetic customer service.

I'm proud of the Yost student section from Saturday. When coming back from commercial breaks (the game was airing on Comcast) a chant of "we hate Comcast" broke out. :D

My fun story is that for the 3rd time I am trying to get Comcast to stop charging me for a modem when I am using my own modem. In college (6 years ago) my roommate bought a modem. I returned the Comcast one and started using his modem. 3 months later I look at my bill and relize they are still charging me. Get that settled. Move to my own apartment after school. Get billed for a Comcast modem though I am still using my modem. Several phone calls later, get that cleared.

Recently moved again. Idiot they sent to set up my cable gave me some story about not being able to use my modem because Canton was different than Ann Arbor, blah blah, different account number. I ended up setting the internet up myself, using my modem, with no problems. I finally looked closely at my bill in December and called to request they stop charging me for a Comcast modem. I go through the same stupid procedure of giving them the s/n which I am now accoustomed to, they say they'll remove the charges from my bill. I get my next bill it claims I short-payed them ('cause I didn't pay for a modem) and they are still charging me.

Anyway, I call last week and now they say they have to send someone to my house. I ask when this changed, she gives me some story, claims she asked her boss if there was anything they could do, blah blah, someone will be there between 8-12. Guy gets there at 12:30 or whatever and asks what he needs to fix. I explain my service is working just fine and tell him the modem story. He looks at me confused. Goes and looks at my modem, writes down the s/n and leaves.

I have yet to see if the issue is finally resolved.

I thought YOU were one of the IT guys at work?

Technically, I'm an applications guy. I'm also an "embedded IT support" guy here at the mill. I still have to call the help desk for some stuff :o. My new position does involve hardware configurations and connectivity, so I'm in the learning curve. The uber geek I referenced is under 30 and is a server admin. He can do things with software and hardware that inspire awe in even hard core users.

That's awesome. :)

:D

Bon voyage. :)

Thanks!

I think my friends made it for a party once. I'm not sure how it went over, though.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 98: Favorite Alter Ego

Just got back from the doc's. I was 15 min early and he took me right away (does that ever happen?). Took one look at my problem and said "ew... that doesn't look good. I want you to see a surgeon right away!" A real confidence booster... :(

After recovering from that shock, I now have to see a surgeon at 2:30 in the city. To say I'm a little nervous would be an understatement! This all started because I thought I had the flu... :(

dang man.... good luck.

Got it, took it. Crashed on me once and hung up so long another time, I thought it had crashed.

So you think your work schedules bites? With the Olympics getting ready to begin in a few weeks in Vancouver have a look at the Canucks' schedule from Januray 31st through mid-March. I hope they get to keep the frequent flyer miles. ;)
