Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 91: It's Blizzard Season... isn't it?
Speaking as a Greek myself (not a ******y Greek, think of those red and white whackadoos that sell the programs at hockey games,) this is a need I think you should communicate with your soon-to-be sisters. If they're not supportive of this need (inasmuch as they can be,) it would then be time to take a step back and evaluate just what you value in life. Why are you pledging? Because you genuinely value the sisterhood and what they stand for? Because you're just looking for fast friends? Because someone told you to? Pledging a Greek organization is not a process to be taken lightly.
There are two keys to Greek life: communication and trust. If you do not have those channels open to your soon-to-be sisters, it WILL NOT work out, not now, and especially not if and when you become a sister.
Do you have a "big sister" who is guiding you through pledging? She is your front-line connection to the sorority and is supposed to provide the communication to work these issues out with you.
Another consideration: you only have one week left. If it's like most Greek orgs I've heard of, it will be the most intense week of all. It will make the other eight seem like child's play. However, make it through and the intensity level should drop off once you're a sister.
Whatever you do, once you have made your decision, do not feel ashamed. You are not a lesser person for choosing to remain a GDI or for quitting pledging. You are not a lesser person for genuinely liking the Greek life and deciding to stick it out. There is one person ultimately in control of your life at Tech, and that is YOU.
So Lodge, I need some serious advice.
As most of you know I've been pledging at a sorority for the past 8 weeks...
We're almost done (1-2 weeks left) but I don't know if I want to do it anymore.
The time commitment's been huge. I've missed >half of our home hockey games because of it(more than I missed last year at all when I wasn't even a student)
I never see my family anymore, it's a financial burden..
If I quit, 24 girls are going to despise me, and most of the Greek community will greatly dislike me...
No frat parties for me, no "sisterhood"...
What it would mean: I'd have an extra 10+ hrs/week, I'd be less stressed, I'd be able to be a true hockey fan again.
What do you guys think?
