Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 88: What's in your stash?

At first I thought, "I've only lived in Minneapolis 3 months and visited 3 times before that, I couldn't have gotten pizza from that many different places.

After thinking some more: Little Caesar's, Domino's, Papa Johns, Papa Murphy's, Broadway Pizza (downtown location), Campus Pizza, Village Pizza, Mesa Pizza by the Slice, Cosetta's.

Any suggestions for other places to try? Preferably something closer to Chicago-style or Greek, this thin-crust crap is killing me.
It was mentioned earlier, but I think Davanni's has a decent deep dish, if I remember correctly. Other than that I agree that Old Chicago is good, despite being a chain. Another one to try is Pizza Luce, but I don't know if they have deep dish, what I have had there has been pretty good.

Try the Italian Pie Shoppe, there is one (right by Macalester) just west of Snelling on Grand. Their deepdish is good, at least according to my flyover state standards. ;)

Many of you know the story behind little g. To make a long story short little g has made the short list in regards to a stem cell procedure. Please say a prayer that he makes the list.
Thoughts in your direction (or Europe's).
They should probably try playing hockey while they're out there on the ice.
Zing!
1. Removal of bone marrow from pelvic bone. The stem cells are isolated

2. Stem cell implantation. After the marrow is extracted and stem cells are prepared and ready to be applied.

3. Lumbar puncture or direct stem cell implantation to insert the stem cells into the body.

FWIW this will not be done in the United States but Europe. Our country is light years behind in regards to stem cell research.
:o This sounds painful, but I'm sure the risks/pain are worth the reward...

Checking in...stressful afternoon (am just sitting down to have lunch).

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 88: What's in your stash?

My pizza is better than all those places:D

So its been snowing on and off all day in Wallyland and its almost dark, both suck

Actually most of the procedures are fairly quick and for the most part not very painful in the big scheme of things and most importantly low to very low risk. The most reported issue is a back ache that lasts no longer than 3 days on average in less than 15% of the procedures and a headache that could last a couple hours which was reported in about 16% of the procedures. In fact, it is an out patient process and from start to finish takes about 4 or 5 days.

However, (if he is selected) and stem cell implantation is the preferred method. That procedure involves injecting the stem cell in the region of the brain that will benefit the most. That would require slightly more risk due to it being a surgery and would require a day or up to a three day stay in the hospital if everything went according to plan. However, the reward is much much higher.

Bottom line 70% of the patients for little g's condition showed improvement after stem cell therapy.

The type of improvements reported include: decreased spasticity; better coordination; improved motor function, improved posture stability; better cognition resulting in communication improvements; gaining the ability to sit, stand or even walk unassisted.

Improved speech articulation was observed in 40% of patients. 20% reported a significant decrease or even absence of epileptic seizures following treatment.

Thin crust dominates because that is pizza. You are evidently looking for a casserole in a dough bowl with a crapload of pizza-ish toppings thrown in.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 88: What's in your stash?

Yay, I'm home! Did that guaranteed stand by thing and made the 12:30 shuttle home. I'm unpacked and now I can run to the dry cleaners instead of waiting till Saturday. My brother is flying in from LA tonight and my mom made her beef stew. I just called to see if there was enough for me so I'm heading there for dinner. I need a homecooked meal, and mom's are usually the best!

And fingers definitely crossed for little g!! What will this procedure entail, if you don't mind my asking? And if you do, that's OK.

Because if your comment last night, we have spent the whole day discussing pizza, and you are going to have beef stew instead! ;)

That's a hot dish in a dough bowl with a crapload of pizza-ish toppings, thankyouverymuch. :p

I like pizza, whether it's thin crust or deep-dish. Both have their advantages.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 88: What's in your stash?

Looks like Pizza Luce and the Italian Pie Shoppe both have locations relatively close to me...I'll probably try one this Saturday while I'm watching college football.

Beef stew is in the oven now. Dinner time is approx. 8:40-8:45. And no, Scarlet is not coming to my house for dinner (not that she's not welcome, it's just that her family is not in Michigan).

You say that like it's a bad thing! :)

I do still want pizza, but after four days of hotel food, I really needed a normal meal. I knew my mother was making stew for my brother (she already has all his other fave meals at the ready for the time he's home) and figured she'd let me come over for some. It was yummy.

Stew in the oven? Really? How do you make it? And appreciate the invite, but wow, you eat late!!!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 88: What's in your stash?

Not if you live near New Haven!!!

So Eagle, How are the Quinn P. Yaks gonna do against the boys from upstate New York this weekend? Are they going to waive the white flag or are they going to earn four points?

Denver is up in Anchorage in what I think will be an interesting series. Marc Cheverie, the Pioneers' top goalie, is out of action for a while with a badly sliced calf muscle suffered last week against Mankato. DU's current goalie--Adam Murray--is from Anchorage and will be playing front of family and friends, which I think can be a double edgede sword.

Denver often plays three freshmen in its rotation on the blueline. While that bodes well for the future those kids have only begun the process of adjusting to play in the WCHA. In short, if the Pioneers earn two points I'll be happy with that. Anything above and beyond that would be a bonus.

Can't help it. When you get back from the store at 5:45, add in 15 minutes of prep, and it takes 2 - 2 1/2 hours, you're at 8:30. Here we go:

1 1/2 pounds stew meat/chopped round steak
5-6 small potatoes (I use redskins)
1 can Campbells' tomato soup
~1 lb carrots
1 Small can (8 oz) peas, drained
1 Small can (6 oz) mushrooms, drained
1 beer (yes, you read that correctly. 1 beer. Your choice of brand)
2 tsp oregano

Preheat oven to 300. Cut the potatoes into quarters and chop the carrots. Combine and stir everything (including the beer and the tomato soup) except for the peas and mushrooms (I ****ed up this last part. I put everything in the dish) in a big dish, at least a 3 Qt dish. Cover and put in oven for 2 hours. Add peas and mushrooms and bake for another 30 minutes. Grab some rolls to go with, throw on a plate and commence eating. Feeds 4-6.
