Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 88: What's in your stash?

My Uncle worked for Ford and my family was a Ford family. I started driving with my brother's (later my) '90 Probe and my Mom had a Windstar at that time. We got 160k+ miles on the Probe without too many problems. It got to the point where it shook when exceeding 55 mph. Then I moved on to a 99 Escort and it made it a good 10 years and 167,000 miles before I got a new(er) car this year. The ex's sister bought the Escort from me, and I'm sure it's still a solid car.

I always buy the extended warranty, so I say "Bring it!"

Yeah so did I, both times it was right around the 100,000 mile mark also. I had that freakin' light on for about 6 months, realized I was close to losing the warranty and took it in. They changed one, stayed out for about 2 weeks, went back in at 99,000 and they changed the other. One measures the pressure in the tank, not sure what the other does

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 88: What's in your stash?

I've shown basically zero brand loyalty until recently. First car was an 1986 Buick Skyhawk - what a POS. Then a 1985 Pontiac Firebird that took me through college and law school, and I'm still kicking myself for selling it. For a time I owned a 1973 Plymouth Duster - a fine piece of machinery that served as my winter whip. Had nice green vinyl bench seats and the factory AM radio. Wasn't particularly good on snowy, icy, or even damp roads, but it was built like a tank and I wasn't particularly worried about smashing it up. My first "new car" was a Subaru Impreza which I bought after law school. Now onto my second Subaru - they're lots of fun.

Are you saying that a light will go on when I reach 100,000 posts?

You're in the Auto Talk thread. Isn't that what you clicked on?
Well, if that's the case, my mechanic told me my car wouldn't pass inspection until I got the headlight fluid changed. Any pointers on how to do this?

He's jobbing you. Everyone knows the headlights don't need their fluid changed that often. Now the turn signal fluid, and the old air in you tires - you better get those changed out right away!

Take a hammer to it, all the fluid comes out. Why pay 100 bucks an hour for a shop to do it when its fun for the whole family

05 Scion xB (:p), thus far it's been tires, belt tightening, and a sensor or 2 at just short of 101k. We just changed the brake pads for the first time at 95k, and they realistically weren't in dire need of doing it.

Turn signal fluid, eh? Is that the reservoir right next to the flux capacitor?

Hammer has that affect on folks. :D

Um, ew? Or maybe not. I guess it depends on if you are Hammer or not. :p

What a day. The Pres/CEO/Chairman arrived a little after 9am. He must have briefed as to who was going to meet him because when I met the car, he said "Hi Cindy." I walked him around the place, brought him to the ballroom and sat with him for about a half hour. Then brought him back to the ready room for the speakers. Left him there to make sure his luncheon was being set up. Went back to the ballroom to escort him to the luncheon room. Then I escorted him out to his car and sent him on his way. It's kind of a rush hanging with the Big Guy. I should put that on my performance evaluation. :)

My new Blackberry wasn't working this morning. That didn't help matters. During a quick break, I called our Help(less) Desk and it turns out that all I needed to do was pop out the battery and pop it back in. Does the Blackberry need to be on or off when charging the battery? I charged it overnight so I'm wondering if something happened during that time to cause it to not work.

You should not need to worry about on or off when charging. My first and second BBs needed to be rebooted too often (that's what you did by taking the battery out, like a cold restart on your desktop). My newest one does not seem to need that as often - don't know why.

Regarding my Blackberry Storm. I cannot get acclimated to the touch screen. :o
