Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 86: Noobs, Halloween, and Pumpkins, oh my!
I was referencing Zach Bogosian (Defenseman, Atlanta Thrashers) who was 18 last year as well, so maybe I just got the "if he stays past the 10th game,
then he can get sent to the minors" mixed up, but I'm fairly certain there is a clause in the rules stating you need to be 3 years removed from Juniors, or 20 years of age, to play in the AHL, as I specifically remember there being a case along those lines last year with Zach. I'd have to look it up to be certain, however.
Edit: found it.
"The agreement actually says that a player from the CHL has to either turn 20 by December 31st of the season OR have completed 4 seasons of junior eligibility. College players and European players (provided they are drafted out of Europe and not the CHL--even if they later play in the CHL) are exempt. They only have to abide by the AHL's age requirement, which is that a player has to turn 18 by September 15 of any given season to be eligible to play. "
So I was partially right, just didn't get the specifics regarding the CHL/NCAA,Europe stuff. This also explains it a bit better too:

So, in the Bogosian case, he had only completed 2 seasons of OHL, so he was either staying or leaving, no chance of AHL or ECHL.
