Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 84: Steal This.

Hey DCers, what should I anticipate weather wise the week of October 18? I am chaperoning my daughter's 8th grade class trip - yes, I did have a lobotomy recently. :D Anyway, just curious in general terms, on the weather channel site I see the averages are mid 60s & mid 40s and just curious if these are accurate.

Thanks!

Yes, that sounds about right. Your daughter's eighth grade class will be hit on by men in their 40s and 60s regardless of the weather. Enjoy the sights. And the field trip, too.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 84: Steal This.

Oh, definitely, would have made sense. I might be over for OC Sunday though, and I'm definitely in for Senser's in a couple weeks
I don't know if I'll be able to make it Sunday, I'm 90% sure that I'll be going to the Dome for the Twins last game there.
(and hopefully to watch them clinch the division)
I have 23 days of vacation remaining that I have to "use it or lose it".

I have 6 and I'm not sure when I'll be taking all of them.
which reminds me... I still need to ask if I can use the grills year round... the first "S word" will send me off to the grocery store for charcoal, chicken, and a few other items. :p
You can definitely grill in the winter, I did it many times in winter in Houghton.

I agree -- the Red Sox will win the World Series. :)
I'm putting my vote in for the Dodgers. Don't know why, but that is my prediction. And I'm hoping they beat the Yankees in the World Series, at Yankee Stadium. So Joe Torre can get a little redemption.:D

I wouldn't mind that. Especially since I feel that the Sox are doing what they can to not make the playoffs. Or that they will get there in spite of themselves.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 84: Steal This.

Is it 5 yet?

I need a drink.

I second that on both counts.

I'll be making manhattans this evening, so you're welcome to swing by if you happen to be in southeast Virginia for some reason. :)

Have a shipment of cigars coming in today, so when I get home from the gym, I plan on pouring myself a stiff drink, lighting a stogie, and reading a book while whittling a few days off the end of my life (they would be the bad days anyway, who needs them).

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 84: Steal This.

I spent 4.5 hours in a conference call/meeting today. I would like to hammerpunch someone.

Sucks, doesn't it?
I don't mind long meetings, as long as it's relevant to all participants and things are actually getting accomplished. Sadly, too many meetings are held just for the sake of having a meeting, and everyone and their cousin is invited. I'm a big follower of having an agenda, sticking to it, and making sure that it's on task. Luckily, so are most of my colleagues.

ETA - and FTR - it's Ok to end a meeting early if you've finished your agenda. Really.

Wait a minute, I am not interested in 8th Grade girls (or boys). :D

Yup - I have those same thoughts... :p
Good to know we're not alone.

Thanks for the offer, but I believe German beer in a boot is calling to me tonight, based on where my friends and I are going.

In crappy news:
The C word sucks
And finding out via Facebook that a friend passed away also sucks

:(

I don't mind if a meeting gets a little off-track, as long as it doesn't force the meeting to run over its alotted time and the topic is actually something that is valuable to discuss.

I've thought that a few times recently myself.

That sounds delicious.

And cancer = Still Perma-Listed. :( Condolences for your loss, wT.

It's going to snow. 6 feet of the white * will be on the ground. It's never going to be warm again.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 84: Steal This.

This is why I'm not going to let my kid play hockey. There is no group of people more vicious and cut-throat than hockey parents.
I certainly didn't steer him there. Mr works in hockey. L'il has been around it since in utero. Mr lives it for his job. L'il is doing the like father like son thing. :sigh:

Is it 5 yet?

I need a drink. One of my idiot co-workers keeps wanting to be the hero so he does useless things like sit at a supplier for hours waiting for them to mold parts which he can bring back. It's pathetic that he has that much free time (states the girl who posts on the message board during the work day).

Anyway, yesterday he decided he'd try to do my job and communicated problems to a supplier based on a status e-mail I had sent (internally). So now the supplier is off fixing some stuff that doesn't need to be fixed and not fixing everything that does need to be fixed. Oh, and of course I don't find this out until a meeting today.

Yarghhh! Oh and I've had multiple conversations with this person about needing to communicate with each other and I try to let him know what's going on, but he always does stuff in a vacuum. I've also talked to his manager and she says, "just keep trying to work with him". Thanks, that's so helpful.

Dear Boss,
I would love a few pertinent suggestions on how you think I should handle Mr. Butinski. I have tried a number of strategies to attempt to work with Mr Butinski in a colleageal manner and all have been unsuccessful. Your input would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
wT

Yes. Yes it does. Earlier today I met with a co worker who had some gloomy news. She had been cancer free for two years. It's back. She starts her medical leave tomorrow with surgery later this week and then chemo. Not good. :(
