Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 82: Games in a Season for the big boys
Friday is "Bunny Suit" day?
Oh yes, I'm fine. Just overly annoyed.
Is there nudity or large sums of money involved?
No nudity but money is definitely part of the story. Can't recall if I mentioned here or not, but my main internal client is having a baby late October/early November. Back in May, her boss came up here to speak to my (then) boss about me working for her during that time. My boss says sure - great opportunity for her, blah blah blah. Tells me about it, not "Would you be interested?" No compensation discussed, etc. Two weeks ago I go to my (new) manager - she started after this took place - and I tell her "I don't know if anything with regards to compensation has been discussed, but nothing was said to me. I will be doing the work of two people, me and her, and her job is a grade level higher. Am I going to get anything for this?"
And what bothered me more was the fact that
I had to be the one to bring this up this late in the game. New manager was great. She is pushing for me, we'll see what comes of it.
So today, she and I were scheduled to have a level set meeting with my client and her manager (the one that went to my then manager initially). Before we get started, my client's mgr starts talking about how my time will be billed to her department. I bill my time back to their department but I also work with other business units so not all of my time is billed to them. It was requested that I not work with the other business units during those 12 weeks so I would be 100% dedicated. She was shocked at the amount, tells us she now can't afford to have me down there. I was like "Um, you'd be billed a good portion of that even if I wasn't down here those weeks." My boss and I sat down after to try and ballpark how much more she would actually be charged and it's minimal. Especially because she will not be billed for my vacation time, my holiday time or training time (I have a scheduled class in December).
Like with the compensation issue, the fact that this is
just now being discussed less than 6 weeks before I'm supposed to transition down there is mind boggling. They've all known about this since mid-May. This should have been taken care back then. So now, there's a 50/50 chance that I won't officially transition down there. Not sure what their alternate plan will be - they certainly won't be able to hire a contractor cheaper than what they will be paying for me. I am really aggravated that I am being drawn into this when the people above me who are supposed to deal with this crap didn't do it and now my work is being affected. And if I don't officially go down there, I know I'm going to wind up doing most of that work anyway.
[/end rant]
You know whats awesome?
Getting a compliment from a customer via email, and the customer cc's your boss on the email.
Congrats. Things like this should happen more often.
Munson died 30 years ago. Half the people there wouldn't be able to tell you who Thurman Munson was.
I remember the day it happened. It was in July though (or August). I know this because I was down the Cape with my family. What caused you to bring this up today?
