Fraud Oz is one of the worst things to air on American television in history. He's done so much to damage science and medicine.
This!

Amen. He is like WebMD in real life.

You have a bad cough, are fatigued. Yep, you need to buy x product or supplement!!!!11!!!! it will save you and make you live to infinity.

I was. It's a long-term decision and a lot of risk. At the same time, it can be a good asset, one that also provides you financial protection in certain grave circumstances.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #189: The Winter of our Discontent.

I'd be more worried if you weren't. I panicked a couple of times after I purchased. "What happens if I lose my job?" "What if I can't afford insurance?" "What if I didn't calculate my finances right?"

There were a few times I had to call my dad to make sure I made the right decision.

Congrats, Almsy! And what they all said about the emotions.

Just got the email from the office....delayed opening till 10am. Why even bother?

Good Evening, Lodge!

Congrats Almsy! Does this mean party? Mr and I are considering buying. We are looking, but not sure yet. Just starting.

Yup. mr les is normally incredibly mellow and never gets ruffled about anything. Both times we bought he was sleepless for days before the signing. Strangely I wasn't I know we were totally fvcked if it didn't work out so I had to let it go. (my job, earlier in the marriage, was to freak out about all the minutia)

Snowmageddon is snopocolypsing. Whee!

Huh...I never had any thoughts like that after I bought mine. I think I mostly felt relieved to be done with that process.

You were a bit frustrated at the lack of appraisal (?) due to the nature of the construction of your house. It was a possibility, from my understanding, that you could have been royally screwed on that. What if the appraisal was too high? I'm sure there were some nerves involved. :)

Not really, there's nothing to be worried about. I knew well ahead of signing the papers what I could and couldn't afford, and my house was well below that line.

The appraisal stuff just ****ed me off and pushed me into an FHA loan that I didn't prefer. Nothing really to be nervous about, frustrating, yes, nervous, not really.

Fun weekend!
One of my closest friends turned 50 last week and retired after 27 years on the job in one of the local MSP suburbs - I just lost my free speeding pass in Fridley. ;)

Had him + a few more buds and their wives/significant others over for dinner Saturday, always fun to hang with buds, drink beer, whisky, & wine while giving each other crap. Made gumbo....it turned out fantastic!

I blame Dr. Oz and all of his shows about BMs for making it normal conversation outside of your doctor's office.
This!

I would hope that my co-workers (intelligent nurses) would be above Dr. Oz, but who knows. Talking about cleanses and colonics and the like. Good lord people. Not to mention, we all work nights, which data has shown, wreaks havoc on your GI (among other body systems). 2 of the 20-somethings have already had botox as well. I'm feeling old, fat, and grouchy (and yet, I don't really mind).

Congrats! We've indefinitely suspended our search.
We'll keep saving though, just in case.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #189: The Winter of our Discontent.

The only thing I had was a little bit of "holy ****! I just bought a house!". The rest of it was pretty stress-free, even as we had the inspection on the afternoon of the giant midwest blackout back in 2003.

I get that feeling when I buy a new vehicle. Can't imagine a house!

And les: as for nights.....had a helluva schedule for a couple years, two jobs:
1. Su-Thu, 10pm-6am
2. Sat-Sun, 6am-3pm

Yeah, took a toll on me, that's for sure. All the sleep on Fri, no sleep on Su.

I had 11:30pm-8:30am for a while. Yeah no, never again.

Granted right now I have 5am-4pm right now, but 4x10s is fun.

Morning.

Apparently my DNA suggests I'm about 32% scandanavian (Norway or sweden). Guess I better look in to that! :)
