Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #189: The Winter of our Discontent.

After a week off, it's back to work tonight. So, naturally, it's supposed to snow every day (just about). It is winter in New England, so it's tough to get too worked up. We did get a friendly reminder that we're essential personnel, so we're allowed to travel during the travel ban (Mass will close the highways if they deem them dangerous due to high winds during snow).

Nice vacation week. Spent much of it sleeping and relaxing with a little studying and cooking thrown in. Made chicken thighs stuffed with mozzarella and basil one night and chicken pot pie another night and sea salted chocolate chunk cookies yesterday during the storm.

For Fade and bb_dl -- what is a mileage run?

I was wondering that

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #189: The Winter of our Discontent.

Mileage run, as I understand it, is taking a side route, not a direct route, to rack up more miles for status.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #189: The Winter of our Discontent.

Vera's uncle passed on Wednesday. He *may* have been able to keep going if he got an lvad, but he was very clear. No machines. He was a nurse for many years, mostly in Seattle. Always felt bad for the patients that had families that wouldn't know when to stop. So they stopped the machines, and he drifted off peacefully a few hours later.

Great guy. Grew up playing football with John Goodman near St. Louis, MO. Man knew his ribs. I'll miss drinking beers with him by his barbecue on Sunday afternoons this summer.

The B/U is the biggest part. RIP, Uncle. :( Thoughts and prayers.

I'm so sorry for your loss. :( But at least he knew what he wanted and it was peaceful.

Greetings from foggy Silicon Valley. This is sort of correct, but not quite.

A mileage run is where you try to rack up as many status qualifying miles as possible in one trip, ideally at a rate of 5 cents a mile or less. Your company doesn't pay for the ticket, you do, in the interest of ensuring you keep airline status for future years, for all of the business travel you do.

The challenge is finding the truly 'cheap' runs, because they rarely start at your home airport, or a hub.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #189: The Winter of our Discontent.

So you are traveling to somewhere for work, but instead of work buying the ticket, you do? This isn't just a weekend of traveling airport to airport around the US to rack up miles?

Nope, not traveling for work. My money, and my choice. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

Good Morning, Lodge! :)

No game today, so no need for another disappointment to stay at the *HT.

Sorry man.
Copied The Rube. ;)

This is how my FIL went, too. Whole family in the room gabbing away about who knows what. "Ummmmmm sweetie....guys.....I think your dad just stopped breathing....guys.....HEY!" He would have loved the discussions...and it's amazing how many times I read, listen to, or watch something and think how cool it would be to discuss with him.

Sorry to hear, soh. :(

Good Morning from the HHT. I was worried for a bit that SCSU was going to lay an egg.

Hoven: you still going south of the river today?

I am. 3-5:30ish. Actually about to get going on my day:

Dropping stuff off at my brother's in Crystal, then back down to Wayzata for a beer trade, then off to church (Apple Valley branch) for another beer trade and glassware giveaway, then off to a friend's house for the Gophers/Nuts game. Yeah, gonna put a few miles on Maggie today. :)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #189: The Winter of our Discontent.

My condolences soh.

Got about 3-4" more snow last night. I ran out to clear off my car and the plow was there so perfect timing. I drove out to the drive cleaners and to see if I could a Super Bowl tshirt for my dad. By the time I got back, my parking spot was plowed-yay! Checked my parents' flight, it's a few minutes delayed. Hoping it's just air traffic.
