Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #188: Hockey Is The Real Politics

Some friends of mine are kicking around the idea of going to Britton on Thursday to watch the Canadian Pacific Holiday train roll on by. It's a train with a fancy light show all over it for the holidays and such. Only thing is that it's just passing through and not really doing a show other than there's a facebook group now with estimates of when the train should be passing through the county and when it should be at what crossings when. Might just see go see it.

Strike that, its going through Britton on Wednesday.

When is it ok to not be the bigger person? I am so sick of my operations manager. He usually doesn't talk to me, and asks my boss for updates on anything I'm working on instead of me. Now twice today he's walked right between me and the person I'm talking to or walking towards, I say "good morning" and "hello", he doesn't look at me, doesn't acknowledge me.

I'm over here thinking, "I can be just as immature as a 50 year old grown *** man".

If he's a** man, maybe you need to show him something... different.

I had a colleague like this. We shared an office. When I walked into it she would turn her back and pretend I didn't exist. Stupid. I know she did it because she thought it bothered me. After awhile I would act like she wasn't there, walk in like the office was empty. She wasn't worth the effort to be polite to.

The reason it works for him is he is so rude you don't call him on it. It isn't being a bigger person to let him get away with it. You have 2 choices- you can act like the person is a piece of furniture and move around them like they don't exist or- you can treat them like a rude child. (I have used both, they are both effective).

If the guy walks thru you can shift a bit to 'accidentally' block him and ask politely if there was something he needs. You don't need to get in his face. Just look baffled, like he must have a reason for walking between you. I used to do this to my coworker and she never quite figured out how to handle it. She did stop getting in my space.

Less mature would be to comment to the person you are talking with that he must have his hearing aides turned down~ sometimes people do that so they can concentrate better.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #188: Hockey Is The Real Politics

Morning. 1 flight down, 2 to go. Had a screamer for the first part of the flight until we were in the air, poor thing was screaming so hard she was huffing and puffing between them. Fell asleep shortly into the air, thankfully.

Decent layover in Amsterdam to plane/people watch before hopping on a 747 to Toronto. Pretty stoked to fly on one of these.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #188: Hockey Is The Real Politics

That was going to be my suggestion as well.

It must be a guy thing.

I can't say I was stoked to fly on anything big. They are so big it is boring inside the cabin. The little ones are the ones I like~ where you can see what the pilot is doing.

I prefer a much larger plane, but if a small jet is what gets me where I need to go, so be it. I'm headed to Lake Placid this afternoon. To fly from Boston, you have few options. The first time I went I flew in a 10-seat propeller jet right into Saranac Lake, which is a few miles from Lake Placid. It was fine. Beautiful day to fly. Sat up with the pilot. The second time I went we took the corporate jet, also into Saranac Lake. My boss wants to go on this trip, and my co-worker is coming. I tell them about the Cape Air 10-seater. They both ixnayed that right away. "I don't want to fly on that!!!" OK. You can fly into Albany and drive the 2-2.5 hours. Problem is, only direct flight to Albany is a 10-seater Cape Air prop plane. Oh no! You could fly to Philly, change planes and fly into Albany but in the time to do that, you can drive to Albany. So I looked into flying to Plattsburgh. It's about an hour drive, maybe an hour and twenty minutes. PenAir. Propeller plane that seats 33 people. Ten rows of one seat on one side, two seats on the other. Calmed then down a little.

I know I should be more supportive if my co-worker is really anxious about flying, but she was annoying me a bit yesterday, complaining about the size of the plane, not wanting to go, saying we should've driven. Six hours to Lake Placid, through a rain and sleet mess. Yeah, no. There are no big airports there. If you want to go, this is what you get.

Don't tell them that makes the plane unbalanced. :)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #188: Hockey Is The Real Politics

I'd have just booked a flight separate for myself to Lake Placid. Let those 2 work out their own transport.

Eta. It's 70 today. :D

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #188: Hockey Is The Real Politics

My boss called me (she's working from home this morning). My co-worker has backed out on the trip. She's overly anxious as it is raining a bit now. She's worried about freezing rain. My boss is thinking about backing out as well. I told her it's in the 40s there, no freezing rain. They would cancel the flight if they thought it was dangerous. I do feel bad for my co-worker. I don't have that fear so I can't understand but I do get that people do have that fear. I wish I could say something to make her not be so anxious about it. My boss is 50/50 right now. We're going to meet at Logan and if she's worried at all, we'll just cancel there and go another time.

Maybe the screaming babies will cancel too. :D

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #188: Hockey Is The Real Politics

Know the Cape air gig pretty well, flown it into home a few times. Small plane, but haven't had issues. As you said, if they felt it wasn't safe, they would cancel themselves.

In Toronto. 747 was nice, we had economy comfort, in our own little cozy side of the plane behind 1st class. Only 36 of us, 3 on the window, 2 in the middle. Boarding last flight to Ottawa shortly.
