Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #186: Summer Heat

Got a ticket this morning on the way to the dentist. 64/50. Lovely.

Good thing it was there and not through the school zone south of there. (I saw it on the Facebook.)

I've gone door-to-door with another vehicle going 60-65 thru that particular area, too. A ticket for 25 over would be a disaster for all parties involved.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #186: Summer Heat

I almost got locked in a bathroom stall in the office today.

Walking into the stall, I close it, turn the handle and the nub used to secure the door in place extends into its receptacle as it should. I finish my time in there, go to turn the handle and the nub doesn't retract.

Great. So I'm about to become a Jeff Finger story, yet another story of an SCSU alum who can't work a bathroom stall door. Frantically, I start turning the handle some more and nothing happens, but it has clearly come lose, as in it's about to fall apart. So I push in on the handle a little, turn it, and still nothing. I push in a little more, repeat, and nothing. Finally, on the third attempt the handle connects and the nub finally retracts.

Deciding that I'm still a man after all, I do a little on-the-spot fixing of the handle, lightly screwing the thing back together. When tested, it moves the nub in and out now. The thing is probably still a little loose and will come undone again any day now. Hopefully when it does, that person starts making loud SAVE-ME calls and everyone in the vicinity of the bathroom will have a good laugh. :)

I just received and accepted an offer with the firm a few miles from my house. Money isn't super, but benefits are. Start Monday, but the company picnic is tomorrow so Mrs and I will attend.

Way to go goldy!! The money you will save on your commute will potentially make up for some of the decrease in pay.

Howdy Lodge. Tuesdays man. Did I post here a few months ago about the cup we distributed to all employees and we had to toss them all because the blue ones turned water blue? We ordered a new stainless steel one, distribution started this week. I forgot to order the 5% overs. This is a pain, but manageable. Late today I got an email that some cups in one of our offices in Wisconsin - the slide thing on top of the lid is loose. This cup was selected because of how the slide thing locks. Seriously, can nothing I do go right????

Congrats!! Even if you don't save on gas the ability to be home wquickly is always a bonus!

Nice! Cutting commuting cost + good benefits, I hope, should help with the money not being great, right?

Back at work after 5 days. One of my coworkers is trying to change our schedule for tomorrow, so that I will work for her tomorrow in exchange for her working for me on Saturday (we had originally swapped days because she wanted Saturday off). I hate last minute schedule changes.

I don't mean the new gig will make us paupers. It's less than a 10% cut from the last place, but the bennies more than make it up.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #186: Summer Heat

Congrats to you, Goldy! And benefits/shorter commute should definitely make up for the lesser salary.

Got a nice "smug-win" today at work. My sort of co-worker is on PTO all week. So, yeah, need a hand. We have two scheduled pickups at my building by a certain small-parcel company. If we don't get about 7 pallets on that first pickup, we risk the night pickup not having enough room, so either call in ANOTHER pickup, or send the extra stuff to the main building (which is a PITA for them; I don't really care either way). Key note: they have to have all of this stuff on the truck by 7.

Told them this WILL happen today, unless I get help. They gave excuses like they always do, finally send someone over for 30 minutes (just about said forget it, not worth it at that point; it was after the first pickup). Sure enough, had 2 extra 7-ft high pallets of small parcel, which they had to break down and hand-load. My building's shuttle got there at about 6:45. *ers. Deal with it. Next time, listen to me. I have my job down to an almost exact science.
