Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #186: Summer Heat

I'm going to have to start shopping for a replacement laptop soon. The wi-fi antenna is starting to fail intermittently. It goes out for a few minutes and then it all starts working again. I know it's not the networking equipment because I've been streaming Hulu and such on my TV without interruption on more than one occasion. So irritating.

I hear ya. Got about a year left on mine (about 4 yrs old). It doesn't necessarily "kick in" to enter the password at times. Have to restart, and all is good. Rare, but it is happening.

I have to do something soon. I hate redoing everything when you get a new one. Bought a surface 3 (not pro) for travel, as back up. LOVE it! Will need to look at what I actually need at some point.

Good Morning Lodge!!

Happy Birthday joecct!!

Good Morning Lodge.

Had a fun evening hosting some friends for dinner last night. Pork and sausages from the smoker were a hit.

An osprey was perched on our picnic table this morning. It's been hanging around the pond for the past couple days. We could hear it screeching and whistling even when we couldn't see it. Beautiful, big bird.

I've milked 5 out of mine, and within the past year, the video card occasionally takes a dump and it requires a restart. Not really ready to spend the bucks to replace though...

Reviewing my shopping history, and it looks like I bought this one in July 2013. I'd like to have gotten more years out of it, but somethings are just not meant to be. I'll try a different brand this time, see if it helps.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #186: Summer Heat

It's tough. Because we are the variable policy money-out team, everything that comes in while the market is open has to be dealt with same day. That means if someone isn't doing anything, everyone else has to stay longer. There's no "this can just get done early tomorrow before we open."

Makes people cranky. Like I said though, you still can't let it affect your performance.

Seeming he is a bit newer, I have made myself more available to him. We can tell when someone is holding a task and for how long. I've taken it upon myself to go over and ask if he's having trouble with it. If he is, I just explain it to him so he can get it done.

Of course I can tell he's making up a reason he's having trouble, it is always a super simple situation. The result is that it gets done before he sits there for half an hour not doing it. :)

I transition from a member of a team about 1.5 years ago and our team has similar metrics and there were some similar shenanigans going on. We have a few people who either don't jump into help when others or out or think they do way more than they actually do. One of the things I've done is provide our supervisor with some very in depth data on who is doing what/when. In turn our supervisor has reminded some people need to jump in to help more. So far so good.....you can try to run from data but you can't hide. ;)

Ha. I heard that from my brother all weekend. I can assure you mum les thinks hiding from data is possible. Maybe with more yrs of experience with life has showed her a trick we were unaware of.

Good Morning Lodge!

Good Morning Lodge. Jr started college today (sort of, it's a CC). He's still trying to get into a couple more classes, wait listed as they were full by the time he was allowed to register.

Mrs and I will go the Fair on the first day, Thursday, and forecast says we may need jackets, or at least sweatshirts. That would be wonderful. If so, it will be Great Minnesota Eat Together, rather than the Great Minnesota Sweat Together as it usually is. (Official slogan "Great Minnesota Get Together.")

The Great Minnesota Eat Together was a slogan used in their ads during the Olympics this year. I don't know if they were running the whole time, but they certainly popped up a few times in the last two or three days.

Mookie is eating Sushi at a restaurant on Staten Island and the staff is speaking Chinese

What is the world coming to????

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #186: Summer Heat

Sad that I will miss the fair - work just barely couldn't get me there during the right dates. Not back in MSP until the 12th.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #186: Summer Heat

Probably will hit the Fair with my folks on Labor Day, as I've done the last couple of years. Most of my friends hate the Fair, and don't go.

Tweaked my wrist today at work, nothing big at all, but due to work policy/insurance/comp/blah blah effing blah, I had to write up the incident, submit it to boss, sign a refusal of medical treatment form, and it's not a "sprain" (that is filed under "fracture" in the company's terminology) and instead list it as a "strain." Either way, it's a "recordable incident" that goes on record, and could affect our safety record. You kidding me? I hate corporate America.

Have a third interview at the local firm tomorrow, meeting with the fourth and final partner.

Jr worked at the new job tonight. He's a runner at an Audi dealer. Mostly he washes cars and cleans up the place. He likes it so far.

Good luck!

And he's well on his way to being the meth kingpin of MN! When do we start calling him Heisenberg?
