Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #186: Summer Heat

I have a friend whose wife is Japanese. Every post she writes on Facebook will first be in Japanese and then in English. Reading Facebook's translations of what she wrote may be the most fun out of seeing those posts. Yeah, the content is all right, but the translations are all the better. It basically comes down to the old video game whose Japanese to English translation came out as "All your base are belong to us." (I don't even remember the game anymore, just the lousy translation/meme.)

Guaranteed Twitch knows the game; I remember the translation/meme. That's hilarious. :)

Les, I've got the beginnings of a massive foot blister... I think. I'm on travel at a conference. Any thoughts? My feet have tough skin so this might be a real serious pain in the *** that may not resolve easily

If it's not yet burst and you're just trying to get through the conference, put a small amount of gauze over the blister itself and then cover the whole thing with duct tape to keep away the friction.

Nexxus blister bandaids are really awesome. Lil uses them.

Good Morning Lodge!

Patman -- If you're using duct tape, be mindful of wrapping it around the toe too tightly. I am not a fan of circumferential bandages because they usually don't have any give to allow for swelling (either natural or due to injury). I second the bandaids.

Afternoon-ish, Lodge. Joys of night shift. Worked Fri and Saturday night, then tried to stay up all night last night to stay on schedule since I'm working tonight and tomorrow night. Ended up falling asleep on the couch around 1am, went to bed, slept intermittently until noonish. Now am wide awake and have to work from 7pm to 7am (then a 45 minute drive home) tomorrow. *sigh*.

Howdy Lodge. On a large prop plane to fly from Portland to Spokane. Alaska Air doing some deals with local universities. My plane is all decked out in University of Idaho Vandals and I've seen another that was all Oregon State colors.

Portland was interesting. Many man buns, dreadlocks, piercings and tattoos. Lots of homeless too. But a pretty easy-to-navigate city with fun stuff to do.

ETA: here's what she wrote: 夢の国の一日はあっという間でした。What a magical day!

Here's Facebook's translation: The dream of a country's day.

Never wrap the duct tape all the way around. It's just nice to use because you can set your size, it stays put, and the back side of the tape is smooth to help with keeping down the friction. I use it each time I play hockey because of a bone spur on my heel from when I blew my Achilles tendon as a kid - it took a chunk of bone with it when it popped. New my skates chafe if I don't get the duct tape in place.

It's my buddy, his wife, and their three kids standing in Disneyland Tokyo, mookie, not a glamour shot.

don't all men have 2 buns?
It's the guys who are growing their hair so it's long enough to make a ball of hair on the back-top of their heads, but not yet long enough for a ponytail. Hipster thing.

Alaska Airlines has sponsorships with basically every school in the Northwest. I know they have planes painted for Washington, Washington State, Oregon, Oregon State, Idaho, Boise State, Montana, Montana State, and maybe Wyoming. UAA and UAF have planes too but they're usually up here in Alaska (although I've seen the UAA one in Seattle).

I was worried -- thanks for clarifying. I had a patient visit the ED 2 years ago who had been wrapping a bandage around his toe for an open wound. He didn't realize that he was cutting off circulation (neuropathy). I unwrapped the toe and the d@mn thing fell off in my hand. Horrifying (and hilarious, honestly).

It's the new mullet (or old-guy pony-tail: think Jimmy Buffett fans). It's horrible. Makes me want to punch the *er in the face.
