Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #186: Summer Heat

I had senator al on my flight to Chicago. He seemed pretty normal all things considered.

Good Morning Lodge.

So, in a completely unexpected development, I got laid off on Friday. Already have a couple good prospects out there. Still a little shocked at the lay-off. It's pretty dam expensive for a small firm to hire a guy at my level and these guys are developing a rep for high turnover.

One of the ones who moved to Minnesota or one who moved to Texas? ;)

Franken... I was surprised for somebody of his current stature how willing he was to go to the ground physically... I think he was waiting for an aide in the air bridge and one time at the luggage carousel down on one knee.

On the other hand, you probably can't make it that far in life without plenty of confidence that doing things like that are no big deal.

Whoa. That sucks, man. Good that you have some leads, though.

 Yikes. Hope all works out with the prospects. One thing to be choosing to move on, another when you find out not expecting it.

Good Morning Lodge!

Rats.
Wasn't their turnover rep one of your concerns when you moved there?

Sorry to hear/read.

Keep on keeping on. Hopefully you land something soon so you don't have to make your cake from a box. :D

Dam weatherman. I didn't take the ride that I wanted because they predicted (at least they did when I yawned at 2 AM) showers off and on. So far it's been a beautiful day.

Of course this did give me a chance to admire the "scenery" playing volleyball near the Lincoln Memorial. I don't think that I have ever before seen that much "scenery". ;) I think that even old Abe was watching.

Hit up church today, and found out that their future is up in the air. Bigwigs are meeting tomorrow to decide whether or not they want to renew their lease. Ugh. A couple regulars and I were talking, and we don't think we'd be a regular at another location, as this particular store was central for all of us. Blech. I hope they re-up. We all agreed that if they don't, we will be showing up the last day it's open and raise the roof, so to speak.

That happened to the Uptown one I frequented also. No idea where my name plate for finishing the tour ended up.

Too bad, cause Asheville is a terrific town to visit.

If you were as far East as Raleigh I'd buy ya a beer.

Asheville was great, I just wish it wasn't so hot down here. I can't function in these temps. The beer in Asheville was great, just had to find taprooms with AC.

That's a good question. Probably would have had to re-designate your home store. For me, the closest one would probably be Eden Prairie (about 20-30 minutes away). No way I'm hauling my butt to Blaine or Apple Valley (both 40~ minutes away, with no traffic; and the Blaine one sucks anyway). Almost done with my 8th tour, too. Should get my mug next year given that I'll kill at least half a tour just during NFL Sundays.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #186: Summer Heat

There's a professor at Tech who starts the year by asking everyone in the class where they're from. If you're from Michigan and say anything south of Alpena he'll respond "No, you're from Detroit" until you cave.

Its Chassel, not Alpena.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #186: Summer Heat

I have a friend whose wife is Japanese. Every post she writes on Facebook will first be in Japanese and then in English. Reading Facebook's translations of what she wrote may be the most fun out of seeing those posts. Yeah, the content is all right, but the translations are all the better. It basically comes down to the old video game whose Japanese to English translation came out as "All your base are belong to us." (I don't even remember the game anymore, just the lousy translation/meme.)

ETA: here's what she wrote: 夢の国の一日はあっという間でした。What a magical day!

Here's Facebook's translation: The dream of a country's day.
