Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #186: Summer Heat

I was worried -- thanks for clarifying. I had a patient visit the ED 2 years ago who had been wrapping a bandage around his toe for an open wound. He didn't realize that he was cutting off circulation (neuropathy). I unwrapped the toe and the d@mn thing fell off in my hand. Horrifying (and hilarious, honestly).

I cut my finger pretty bad gutting a deer last fall. In the middle of the woods, nothing to bandage it up with, and couldn't get it to stop bleeding. I didn't want to ruin my good gloves by filling them with blood, so I cinched down a zip tie on my finger that was bleeding. It stopped the bleeding so I could get out of the woods, and by the time I was out, and I cut the zip tie off, my finger was cold and purple. But as soon as I got it off it went back to normal, it was probably only 20 minutes it was on. And then it didn't start bleeding again, so I didn't need to bandage it up.

Yikers! that is kinda gross but AFV worthy all at once.
It's the new mullet (or old-guy pony-tail: think Jimmy Buffett fans). It's horrible. Makes me want to punch the *er in the face.
Nope, the worser thing is the new trend to shape men's eyebrows into points at the end like some sort of Disney girl cartoon. Honestly. It is the most foolish, fake, plastic looking (carry on in that vein) look ever. If I wanted to look at a girl's face I would look at a girl. It is jarring to look at what appears to be a woman's eyes and then have a shaved face or even worse, one of those silly pencil beards below (you know the ones where they look like they took a thin eyebrow pencil and drew a little line along their jaw). I know every generation has their thing but this is even dumber than running around with your pants hanging off your but and your boxers bagging out over the top.

Don't you people sleep?!
No. You are just figuring that out?

Good Morning Lodge!

Just got another call from one of those scammers saying the IRS is coming after to me. Oh noes!!!!! This one was such a computer-generated voice - seriously, if the IRS was coming for you, they wouldn't have a computer-generated voice on their call.

Work got hit HARD today; also got emails saying KC and CLE were rocked with incoming orders. I think it's safe to say it's the short heat wave that we are having/will have. One more day until a long weekend.

Trying to burn days to get under my carryover limit, and it's getting difficult. Already have the last 2 wks of Sept Fri's/all of Oct Fri's off. I think I need to burn another 10 days or so. Whee.

I get 28 days of PTO, and it can be tough to get under that 5 day carryover limit. My group has a lot of people with a great deal of seniority, and we have limits as to how many people can be out on a given day.

Ditto. I'm 3rd on seniority. Only 2 people allowed off on any given day, and that even depends on their role (I'm handicapped in that aspect, as only 2 others know my job, both are managers). We can request whatever until Jan 31st, seniority-based. After that date, it's first come, first served. I am currently getting about 220~ hours PTO per year, and can carry over 40 hours. I had a week carryover from last year. I think I max out after this year, and will be getting about 240~ hours PTO in the future. It may come to the point where I basically am working 4-day weeks for most of the year, as I don't really take vacations. Even the annual Houghton trip, I only take 4 days off.

Good Morning Lodge!!

They keep saying the economy is in the tank in our little area. That our town neeeeeeds development and we don't have it. There are 3 separate construction sites close enough to hear that are up and running by 7AM in the morning. Tough to hear the birds when all you hear is beeping when trucks are backing up.

Good Morning Lodge.

Got my first interview tomorrow morning. This place is close enough to my house that I could bike to it.
