Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #185: Summer Activities

Just booked flights to UK/Ireland for Thanksgiving and some college hockey. Will spend Wed-Sun in Belfast, then jump down to Dublin until Tuesday. Can't wait.

Mornin' lodge. On my way to sign my contract for my first job which begins July 11th! Very excited about the opportunity! I'll be working in Home Mortgage Consulting! I can sell mortgages all over the US too, FYI!;)

How exactly does one "consult" on mortgages? What expertise will you provide that I didn't learn in second-year finance? :p

Congrats.

I'm getting closer and closer to dropping Facebook. I know, it won't happen, but it's getting increasingly difficult to read posts from friends whose views are so diametrically opposite of mine. And I want to respond but I feel I can't articulate what I need to say.

I still subscribe to the rule my dad told me when he worked for Ford: There are two things you do not discuss in the shop. The first is politics. The second is religion.

Pretty much. Once in a blue moon I'll engage in a discussion, but I mostly use it for inane and/or funny things. My activity on there has dropped quite a bit as for my status updates, though.

Yep. I'm usually well-behaved on the job, but with me regularly going in front of customers now, I have to be super vigilant about avoiding humor that might offend people. So I'm pretty much limited to IT jokes, and fortunately there are plenty of those. :)

I don't have to watch any language at my job. Love it. There are days I might say 5 non-cuss words. To no one in general. /onlyhalfserious

To be honest, even amongst close friends in live settings, I try to avoid politics/religion. It may come up, but thankfully it's healthy discussion when it does happen (yes, there are opposing views galore).

I have a few people posting nasty, disrespectful political things that they absolutely believe (both sides). Mostly , with effort, I can ignore them. Sometimes I just want to ask if they are capable of coherent thought because they are so foolish. It is difficult to believe people can be so oblivious.

I post lots of pics of my garden... and funny stuff. Once in a while I can't control myself and post an opinion but I try not to.

Yep, sometimes I am overcome with a case of the vapors and I am compelled to post some rambling rant that is liked by a few people and (thankfully) ignored by the fringe.

Good morning Lodge.

Back in the office.

Heading out Saturday for another camping trip. About a 5 hour drive north from home. We check out 7/5. We will rush home and then head to cityslickerville for a Twins game that evening. Seats behind home plate. Hopefully it's not hot and humid.

Howdy Lodge. On a lunch break from an all-day training on Root Cause Problem Solving. It's part of our lean/six sigma program. Blech.

Booked a few weeks ago for the first two full weeks in December. 'lil GE is studying in Ireland (near Galway) fall semester so Mrs. GE & I decided to visit the holy land after she is done for the semester. Very much looking forward to it. Guinness is good for you!

My mother visited Ireland (shes of Irish decent as well) last year i believe. She said its the only other place she would live. She liked it that much.

Back in college, we made a port stop in Dublin for a few days. Really, really enjoyed it. Glad I get to go back, even better that college hockey is involved.

One more new hire today, and another interviewed. Staff is on its way to being back to normal.

Also, had a convo on Mon about leaving work from off-site w/no OT tonight. If that convo hadn't happened, I would have worked 1.5 hours OT. *whew* Thankfully, even after I asked if we were good, mgmt (who is able to change their minds on such things) fulfilled my request.

But, there is a flipside. I have to go in an hour early tomorrow to fulfill a GIANT order from a known internet power located in Shakopee MN. My guesstimate is about 15 pallets, 8' high, of paper products. HOPING it only takes that extra hour to pick/consolidate. Yeah.
