Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #184: The 2016 Frozen Four

Meh. We're not great hunters. If we hunt later we'll try to correct our mistakes. We need to set up closer to where the turkeys roost and get them soon after the fly down instead of trying to draw them in. We're not good enough at calling them in.

IIRC, if you aren't prepared to call in the big toms on Day 1 of the early season, you won't have much luck thereafter. Turkeys are smarter than people think, and like deer, the big guys catch on that it's open season in short order. They will sit in the thickest part of the woods, and wait for the hens to come to them.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #184: The 2016 Frozen Four

Little g wants to try deer hunting this fall. He will be 10 next month. 10!

We will definitely need to modify a bunch of things in order for him to get out in the woods.

****, when did he get old on us??

Cleaned out the chicken coop today, and was kinda glad that one of our front desk receptionist got sunburned on Saturday. it reminded me that I better cover up for the cleaning or else I was going to turn lobster red.

Well, we'd be happy with a jake since those old toms get tough. We eat whatever we kill and I've smoked the breasts of the two jakes that Jr has shot in the past. Big Blue's farm has not had heavy hunting pressure in the past, but there were at least two other parties hunting there this past weekend.

This afternoon I get to drive almost to the UP. I'm staying in Sconny just across the border and will go to a job site tomorrow morning in Watersmeet, MI. Hope I miss all the deer on the roads.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #184: The 2016 Frozen Four

I spent yesterday sanding and gluing up a small table, only about a foot tall, to rest my laptop upon while I'm sitting in the living room and need to set it down. The table top is actually a reclaim from a different, failed project from a few years prior, so I only had to purchase a strip of 1"x2" red oak to complete the thing. The problem is I had to wait for the glue to set before applying the stain so I couldn't complete it yesterday. Looking at the weather, I'm not going to get another chance at completing the thing until the weekend.

Also, it was way too hot to sleep last night. Reluctantly, I had to shut the windows and turn on the AC, and then changed my sheets to something lighter weight, which meant gathering them from storage. It's way too much work just to get to sleep.

Good morning Lodge. Happy Patriots Day! Office is closed today so I'm taking the opportunity to bring my car in for its 60K mile service. Beautiful day here today.

We're effectively done at 12:30. This might be a record. Awaiting two checks, and that's it.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #184: The 2016 Frozen Four

Greetings Lodge. Here in San Diego - got here a few hour ago. Left the hotel in Tampa about 5am. Got to Phoenix "30 minutes ahead of our scheduled arrival time!!!!"said the pilot. And then we proceeded to wait close to 40 minutes till our gate opened up. I was actually afraid I was going to miss my connection. Thankfully I was sitting in the 8th row so I got off the plane pretty quickly.

Boarded the flight in Phoenix, taxied out to the runway, pilot comes on to tell us we're 18th in line for take off. It's raining. In Phoenix. So, we wait for about 20 minutes more, the pilot comes back on to tell us the winds have shifted so we now have to loop back around so we can take off towards the west instead of the east, or whatever. We were on the tarmac longer than we were in the air. Thankfully no screaming babies.

Front Desk Guy came through with a corner room over looking the harbor, and a balcony! Which only a few rooms per floor have. I think it's because he asked if I would be OK with a room with two doubles instead of a king and I said "I'm so tired right now I'd be OK with bunk beds!" We have a work meeting at 3:30. Thankfully it's in this hotel so I don't have to go far. Not going out tonight.

Wanted to offer up my congrats to all the Sioux fans here in the Lodge. Good to see MNS! What a display of hockey last night. And Mark - you guys had a great run this year. You just ran into a bulldozer of sorts. Taking a little enjoyment as one of the VERY FEW teams that beat you this season!! :) Too bad you weren't able to make it down. Tampa really does a nice job with this event and I hope to see it back there soon.

Also good to see wT - sorry I missed mel!! Was there a planned meet and greet last night? My friends I was with told me there was but I saw no mention of it. Apologies for missing those of you that were there.

Is it October yet???
Sorry to have missed everyone -- kept to ourselves this trip as we needed some time. Didn't see anything about a Meet N Greet. Got to wave hello to MNS several times. :)
Apologies to Mark as well -- UND was quite the team though.
Good Morning Lodge! Where is everyone?
We stayed in FLA until the 15th for a vacation!
Good Morning Lodge.
He buys them with a "check" and tells his friends about them with his flip phone.:D
I had to write a check yesterday!! One of the tolls on the way to MCO only takes exact change ($0.75) and we didn't have any change in the car. There isn't anyone manning the booth - you just grab an envelope and write a check when you get home. Of course, I had to FIND my checkbook first...
Good morning Lodge.

NaSK is trying to move all his stuff in this weekend. Part of me is excited to live with him, most of me is nervous. Also, how did my 3 bedroom house occupied by 1, now 2, people get so small? Seriously where did all this stuff come from? /first world problems
At least it's a 3 bedroom house! Tcbg and I moved in together when I moved into his 1 bedroom apartment. Most of my stuff ended up at my parents house or sold. When we moved into a 2 bedroom place, we thought we wouldn't fill it and yet...

10!!!   Where has the time gone!?

Yay! Gorgeous day for the race!

Nice! Congrats!

We got back from Tampa/Orlando on Friday. We stayed in Tampa Wednesday - Friday and then drove to Orlando Friday night. Spent Saturday at the Dali Museum in St. Pete's before the game. Monday we went back to Tampa for Pearl Jam (Holy cow -- amazeballs). Tuesday was 17 hours at Disney (by accident) and Thursday was 10 hours at Universal. Was a great and decadent vacation, but I'm happy to be home. Not to be finished with vacation, but to be back in my space with my things. Looking into a mini-vacation in November now. (We're trying to become judges at Memphis in May -- the BBQ competition-- and the class is in Nov., figured we'd jet off from Memphis for a few days).

Welcome back. I was jealous of your pictures last week, wishing I was still on vacation, especially Universal. So much fun. I'm surprised we didn't run into each other at the Dali Museum, as we were there Saturday before the game as well, and it's not that big of a museum. We were probably there from 12:30 - 2:30.

Odd -- We were there from about 1pm - 3pm... It was fun. I thought the comparison to Disney was a stretch at first, but found the latter part of the exhibit interesting. Also loved the variety of the work that was available to view. I had no idea that he had done Impressionist style work or that he had some wild religious paintings.

Something has happened to me as an adult. I really had a horrible time on many of the rides at Universal. I nearly threw up on tcbg on the Simpson's ride and both Harry Potter rides left me pale, sweaty, and dizzy. Never had that problem in the past. (Not pregnant -- I checked). I loved Diagon Alley though. We started on that side of the park and spent most of our time there. I thought Hosgmeade was very crowded by comparison. Bought some cute stuff in Knockturn Alley and loved looking through all the stuff in Diagon Alley. :)

I think we put one client out of business today. *shrug*

Wow. The fatigue is really starting to kick in. Off to the ice arena and then a nap.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #184: The 2016 Frozen Four

Every year in the office we have this "Q12 Survey" that's supposed to measure out contentment with company. This year they started something new, assigning each of us a follow up question to one of the original questions, explaining what it means to us individually. You can either respond in the open or anonymously. We'll find out whether or not these things are truly anonymous when you answer using that option. My question to which I was to reply was, "I have a best friend at work." This is where, had I really wanted to spend time on it, I would have pointed out that it's more of a statement than a question despite that they keep calling them all questions. Then I went on about something along the lines of being friendless except for that whisky bottle used to top off my Coke bottle each morning. Usually they ignore those sorts of responses, but they published one recently, a guy laying into the company about the stupidity of this process and griping about the pay scale. It's been comedy gold around these parts.

At my previous company, HR would bribe employees to positively fill out those types of surveys so that they could win meaningless "Best Place to Work" awards. :p

We get one of those each year. After many pointless years of this, they finally listened and have a cash-bonus program for performance goals (judged by building, not individual worker, and in my case, that's wonderful, since my building/s have basically been at the top for years).

We have different one-off recognition programs, but this survey is just something that they want to do in order to make the workplace more enjoyable for us - in theory. The problem is, they've made it into such a big deal, your group has to work on its lowest score, form an action plan, follow up on the plan, etc., and it just became grating. Now that we're in year 4 or 5 of this, it's moved beyond grating to just tedious. Many groups fill out the survey with overly good remarks so that they have to do less with it throughout the year. My last group, two survey years prior now, the manager got savaged by us because he deserved it. Independently, we all rated things extremely low because he'd been jerking us around all year. He ended up getting a "promotion" away from managing and is now a high level analyst of sorts. Really, it was a lateral move as the person who took over his team reports to the same manager.
