Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #184: The 2016 Frozen Four

Mommy! Daddy! I broke my horse! Can I get a new one?

What I learned is that some horses can jump the small obstacles and they're kind of cheap, then some others can jump the bigger obstacles and they cost more, then some can jump the highest obstacles and they cost the most. Hence the progression as the girl moves up in class. And they don't hold their value so the trade in is less than you paid a few years ago. Who knew? None of this accounts for the boarding, feeding and training of the horse. Then the cost of saddles, bridles, etc and the girl riding needs outfits for competition too.

Suddenly having a kid playing hockey doesn't seem so bad after all...

Junior and intermediate sticks are cheap. It's the skates that'll get you when they start into the adult sizes. My college roommate, HockeyBum on GPL, he's only about 5'7" or 5'8" and is using an intermediate level stick for that reason. He handed it to me after he bought it, it may as well be a willow tree branch with a 67 or 77 flex, I forget which. Some of the shorter women I know like to play with the junior sticks because of their costs, the lie, and their low flex numbers.

Double basses aren't cheap. I have a buddy that has a few. He has a bow that is over 5k, and is insured separately.

Somehow methinks that even being an Olympic champion is a net deficit on the rider.

I always liked watching show jumping when it was on whatever fringe sport network at the time. But yeah... Now that I'm an adult and can ballpark some costs... Dear god

Is that all for a stand up bass or is the part about the double basses a bass guitar? My niece bought herself a fretless bass guitar last fall, and she spent some pretty good money on it.

I guess I shouldn't complain about Magic: The Gathering prices then. But man I could use a playset of Arid Mesas...

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #184: The 2016 Frozen Four

Am I missing something... You give up one life to go find one mana card and play it? Sounds like a bad deal. Or is this just about straight up rarity?
Depends what other cards you have. Plenty of reasons to give up a life point.

Look up a shopped Medieval Madness by Williams circa 1997 on Craigslist and get back to me.

Yeah, life points in MTG are just another resource to use. The only thing that matters is not being at 0.

Arid Mesas power lies in its wording. It searches for any Mountain or Plains, not just the basic types, so it can find lands that tap for two colors like Sacred Foundry or Tundra and bring them in untapped. Plus there's a fringe benefit of thinning out lands from your deck.

If an MTG card is expensive, it's generally expensive for a reason.

(Yeah I know, nerd nerd nerd...)

I used to play Magic when I was in junior high or so. Then I learned that money existed.

Yeah, I've managed to keep myself from investing too much by playing cheaper decks and some good trading. But yeah, it ain't cardboard crack for nothing.

One family lives in St. Louis Park (the ones with the horse), other family in Eden Prairie. None of us drive any Mercedes or Beemers. :)

No kidding, goldy lives in Bentley country. He may slum it & get a Rolls.....but only if desperate. :D

A double bass is just a stand-up bass. Not all are expensive, but quality ones get pretty rich.

I have a trombone that cost 5k, and an old one that didn't cost nearly so much new, but is now worth 4-5k or so. It's old. Real old.

Good evening Lodge.

Checked into cityslickerville this evening. I will be here all week attending various meetings and such.

Yeah, even a pasture ornament horse isn't all that cheap anymore. Hay and feed have all been going up lately. Tack tends to hold its value, as long as you make sure you're taking care of the leather.

And other news here on the farm, it sounds like Mom might just be finally losing her problem boarder later this month. Lady has always been late with the board check or "forgets" it, or it bounces. And everything just has to be done her way or else. She has one horse who has nothing but issues and truthfully should have been put down a while ago. She's old and feeble enough that she can't really even walk her horses around anymore, much less ride them. But she just has to to have them.

About 6 weeks ago her granddaughter had some tack turn up missing from our tack room. It's **** odd that the granddaughters bridal bag was the only thing missing out of there when there's a bunch of saddles on rolling saddle racks that would have been pretty easy to load up. We honestly all think she has bridal bag somewhere in her house somewhere, but the granddaughter hasn't been in the house to look the last I knew. That poor family is going to have a mess on their hands when that old bat finally kicks the bucket.

Good Morning Lodge. Another beautiful day. 77F, gentle island breeze rustling the palms. God is good.
