Screw that. Minnehaha. I swear that rink was actually colder on the inside than the rest of Minneapolis when it was -5F on Valentine's Day back in 2008. My pick up group at the time had a game there that night. WPoS, another skater, and I were comparing who had the reddest bellies after the first period. So cold. So cold.

St. Mary's Point had a windchill. Even if it wasn't windy outside.

Rinks...

Remember a game at Baraboo a few years ago and it was a lovely 7am game and their "rink" is a pavilion in a park with plywood to cover the gaps between supports.

It's a sun-splashed high pressure day and -2 when we got there.

Had to be -10 inside coz there was no sun. Coldest game I've been involved in.

Honorable mention goes to Reedsburg and Dodgeville where it was a steady 5 degrees, even if it was 40 outside.

One final thought... steaks were the order of the night and were outstanding along with several celebratory Plantation & Cokes and a nice cabernet with the main course.

Feelin' good. :)

Good for the boy, Gurth.

Not that long ago, Reedsburg's rink didn't have sidewalls. I grew up 20 minutes from the Canadian border, and all those little wheat-towns on the Manitoba side had rings, nearly all natural ice. Pucks would shatter when it got seriously cold.

Yeah... well I'm not 70 and I've gotten coddled. :p

Fell asleep watching Netflix. Get woken up by a woman screaming "HELP! HELP ME!". Hear a car drive away and immediately look out my window. Woman is quickly walking towards my building towards a couple of my neighbors who live on the ground level and had gone outside. Cops have been driving by for about the last half hour. She's ok, just shaken up, obviously. This is supposed to be a good part of town. I hate people.

Congrats! You realize he will need varsity cleats. ;)

Oh fer sure.

Got the team pack and the varsity team pack which includes warmups, shorts, socks, a bucket hat...

Another 2 bills at least.

And so I drink...

One week until the "second family" reunion, aka the hockey tailgate. Add to the mix St Patrick's Day...yeah, getting a little giddy.

There's also a certain customer who I'd like to strangle. Stop dropping in massive orders 2 minutes (literally, I've been keeping track) before our cutoff. Jack bags.

I had the near complete opposite of this one time. Refereed at US Youth Soccer's Far West Regional in Las Vegas one year. In June. With some matches on field turf. I've never been so *ing hot in my life. 120° on one field. At 7pm.

Worse was being 22, in Las Vegas and being told by the State Youth Referee Administrator I couldn't drink or gamble. And he was my roommate for the week.

I've also been in Fairbanks in December. -30° and dark. Lovely, alcohol poisoning inducing place. :p

Good Morning, MEUSA! :)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #183: The Final Approach To Off-Season

Good morning Lodge.

Regarding cold rinks. Back in the day I played in northern Minnesota section 8. Coldest rinks in the state. I guarantee it.

While in high school we barely won a game we should have easily won. We played a team near the Canadian border. It was cold out and in the dead of winter and we had a long drive back to Bemidji. Our hockey gear was put into a trailer and towed by the bus. When we got to the rink and unloaded our gear the coach said "put on your equipment and get on the rink. No pucks." Our rink was always colder inside than outside it seemed. Putting on frozen gear and then skating in a cold rink sucked big time. Especially at midnight on a school night after a long bus ride home.

Saw a Michigan Tech MI license plate this AM. They were having trouble timing a red light. Way out in the intersection on red as they tried to do that roll forward into a green thing.
