Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #182: Snow!

I do love Ron Perlman as well. I never watched Married with Children, so I don't have any preconceived notions.
Thanks for reminding me that I've been meaning to rewatch Goon.

Allegedly, there is a Goon 2 in the works. Coates is a HUGE hockey fan, btw. I follow him on the Tweeter Machine.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #182: Snow!

Good Morning Lodge.

Congrats to Mavsy's squad, they're going to the X! Mild upset as #2 seed beat the #1 seed last night 1-0. Had a good shots edge too so not a fluke. The teams will get seeded soon and the schedule released later in the weekend. Lots of upsets in both classes, the clear class A favorite got beat in OT last night so the seeds will be a jumble in both A and AA. The team he helps coach is Makato West and they'll play at the Xcel next Wednesday in the first round.

Congrats to little Gurt, sorry the season ended a game too soon.

Well... since you asked...

In terms of quality... they send a guy with a hand held to these things unless the game is broadcast.

I dvr'd the news and since I don't know how to transfer from dvr to my computer, I videotaped my tv with my Canon t3i and then posted to Youtube so I could share on Facebook.

Congrats.

My high school punched a ticket to state last night.

:D sweet.

978 land is not obsessed with HS hockey. I don't even know if the playoffs have started yet.

Morning.

I'm betting Edison did not punch a ticket to state. :D

The only time my high school has ever made it to State was the first year of the Tier 2 tournament/fiasco when we finished 2nd because we got to beat up on small schools that were far inferior to the likes of the early 90s powerhouses in Apple Valley, Burnsville, Bloomington Jefferson, and the rest of the then-Lake Conference (conference looks much different these days).

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #182: Snow!

Thanks all.

He's beating himself up over the goal he didn't score midway through the 3rd. Got an opportunity in the slot and the puck was rolling a bit and he didn't get off a hard shot. Of course he assumes he'd have roofed it.

I was prepared for that when he got home that night and had the Blackhawks' scoring stats ready.

"How many shots did you get?

2

How many goals did you score?

1

Do you know that Patrick Kane's shooting percentage is 16%? That means he scores roughly one goal for every 6 shots he takes and that doesn't even take into account any pucks that miss the net or that he flubs."

He ain't buying what I'm selling. :D

Apparently didn't get a lot of sleep last night as he's seeing it over and over. He still laments a shot in the 3OT Pee Wee state championship game from 7 years ago when he missed by about an inch. And we WON that game and he played heroically throughout those playoffs.

"But dad, we might have lost coz I missed that. Sure, but you led the team in scoring that season including doubling up the the 2nd and 3rd leading scorers in the playoffs. You did your part."

It's a wonderful quality that he cares so much, I just wish he could let go of the missed plays and enjoy the great ones more.

Even if he gets off a great shot the other night, that goalie has a .920 save % and likely stops him anyway.

And that doesn't even take into account the hundred other plays in that game that mattered. Look at the second goal in that video where our entire team is bunched below the circles and 3 guys chase the puck leaving the eventual goal scorer wide open.

Team sport. Long game. It's not like he missed an empty net or a backdoor tap in.

Plenty of our other forwards didn't finish their chances either.

There's always a mourning period for these guys when a season ends. I believe it's more pronounced in hockey than in other sports as these guys are together in a different way than other sports - having their own locker room/clubhouse where they hang out for an hour before practice and an hour after, long season, year round high school open hockey, team dinners the night before every game, etc, etc, etc..

This isn't just my opinion as the multi-sport athletes (including my own son) attest to it.

They lose something very dear when the season ends each year. My son rarely shows emotion and he bawled when he got home the other night.

Again - glad he cares and buys in so much. He's making memories that will be important to him for the rest of his life.

The silver lining is that lacrosse always starts right away, so a part of what is lost can be replaced for him and the other 6 or 7 guys who play both sports.

Now if I could just get over the season ending... :(

:)

Hockey is very insular. When they leave the cocoon at the end of the season it is always sad.

I used to ask my kid if he thought he was the most important person on the team- usual response- was a horrified NO!!
then why do you think you are the only person that could score, have made a difference? There is a reason there is no I in team. If you think you are the one who lost the game that is dam* arrogant and it insults your teammates.

There were always crickets after that.

My .02 worth?

Introduce him to drugs (get him some weed and a bong?) That should make him forget about stuff and allow him to move on. Your are welcome. I'm here to help. ;) :D

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #182: Snow!

We had a tour of our new office located near the new Vikings stadium (not permitted to call it by the sponsor's name - freaking cult-like about that, I swear). My group will be on the 14th floor, that's the top floor assigned to a group as the building only has 15 stories and the 15th floor will be a commissary/common area of some sort. We're kind of a big deal around here.

I'm going to lose so much storage space, going from a two-drawer cabinet, a three-door cabinet, a writing drawer, and two overhead bins down to a single one-drawer cabinet and a small locker for my jacket, bag and such. Privacy will also be gone.

There are some small conference rooms designated for stand-up scrum meetings, but they're called things like huddle and focus rooms, along with some other football references.

Also, no decorations or house plants will be allowed at the new office building. Many of us are expecting a very sterile and depressing environment.

The oddest thing about the new building is the elevator system. In the elevator car itself there are no buttons to select your floor. Instead, you select your floor from a kiosk just outside the bay and it tells you which car to use. It then counts the number of people getting into a car by kiosk selection and then again those passing through the elevator doors to optimize travel speed and minimize the number of stops to reach your destination. The other part that they don't say is that the security desk will know exactly how many people are on which floor at all times and who roughly who those people are.

What idiot came up with this plan? Haven't they read any of the latest research on work spaces? Have no idea why this description riled me up but it sounds beyond stupid and less likely to foster a healthy/productive work environment work environment
