This whole week is national engineers week. So, to my fellow engineers in the lodge, umm.... I don't know. How does one celebrate engineers week?
Sit home alone, playing video games, drinking Mountain Dew. No wait, that's computer nerds.

I haven't done anything for engineers week since college days when we did lots of stuff.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #182: Snow!

So... the boy's season came to an end last night in a 3-2 double OT sectional semifinal loss.

He played his heart out as he has all season, scored a goal and was active and noticeable all over the ice. So many parents and former teammates who were in attendance were complimenting him to me throughout the game.

His student section chants his name too which is hilarious as he is one of those high motor guys throwing his body in front of shots, hitting, crashing the net etc.

Must have been 600 people there and an electric atmosphere. He played one of his best games on one of the biggest stages he's been on.

It's heartbreaking in a sports way to lose that game, but couldn't be more proud of my boy and many of his mates who we've gotten to know over the past several years.

Great junior season.

Only one more to go. :(

Oh yeah and his goal was on two local newscasts and the news ended before the game, so the highlight isn't spoiled by video of the outcome. ;)

:)

Onto lacrosse as captain's practices have already started and if he makes varsity, he will be on a team that is one of the favorites to win state.

Yes... he's a junior and a very good lacrosse player and it's an "if" in regards to making varsity. VERY deep program.

Thanks.

Needed to get that off my chest.

Good morning Lodge

Why only celebrate for one day? This whole week is national engineers week. So, to my fellow engineers in the lodge, umm.... I don't know. How does one celebrate engineers week?

Design and build a Leaning Tower of Pizza that won't fold in on itself during the baking process because, hey, it's nerdy and tasty.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #182: Snow!

It's been that way for a long, long time now, Mavsy. There are articles out there on the subject of declaring "National Brand X Day," and it doesn't really take much at all. There are dates chosen by an industry and then there are those days dedicated by government decree (those are tougher to get). Very few have significance to the actual date of the chosen celebration day, though National Donut Day does have historical WWI ties to its date.
I've noticed that I just usually don't pay a whole lot of attention to the particular "whatever" day is occurring each day. That's somewhat interesting though with the Donut Day.

Section Final Game Day. Tonight is what hockey in Minnesota is all about! Very excited for the opportunity to play one game to punch a ticket to the State Tournament!

At church tonight to kick off the St Patrick's mini-tour. The GM is straight up Irish and made his grandma's Guinness Stew....with 2 gallons of Guinness....everyone got a free bowl (or two). Man it was delicious!!

Sounds awesome.
Hello, Lodge.

Twitch - I'm not sure I'd ask Deadpool how to celebrate anything  ... or maybe we should :D

Back home, and not on mobile device:

I'd estimate he made 15 gallons of the stew, so that ratio...yeah. IIRC, when I first saw him last Sat, I thought he said he was from Cork. For those of you who have seen Sons Of Anarchy, he has the same accent as Jimmy O'Phelan, not the cartoonish Irish accent many often hear. And it's a HEAVY accent.

My great-aunt Margaret immigrated to the US in her 20s and she had the thickest Irish brogue I've ever heard (outside of my cousins who visit from the same area of Ireland) until she died in her 90s. Loved hearing her speak, even if I could only make out every 4th word. Looking forward to SoA. I'll likely start it once we're not in the dregs of winter (I prefer uplifting stuff during this weather as it improves my mental state).

Yeah, SOA is kinda heavy, although it has some HILARIOUS moments. I think Jimmy O shows up in season 2...but he is a main secondary character.

I'd love to have the non-brogue accent. I can sort of fake it, but it just isn't the same. :(

Well... since you asked...

In terms of quality... they send a guy with a hand held to these things unless the game is broadcast.

I dvr'd the news and since I don't know how to transfer from dvr to my computer, I videotaped my tv with my Canon t3i and then posted to Youtube so I could share on Facebook.

I'm looking forward to more Charlie Hunnam in my life -- I liked him in Pacific Rim and (despite him going in and out of the accent) he was pretty good in Crimson Peak (and he's easy on the eyes).

He does good in this. Ron Perlman is excellent, and you will never see Peg Bundy, I mean, Katey Sagal, in the the same way. Ever. Again.

Bonus: Kim Coates (coach in Goon) is the ultimate in the series. :D

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #182: Snow!

Hunnam overacted a bit imo.

I liked Peg in her role a lot at first, but eventually it seemed to me that her husband was featuring her a bit too much and I really got sick of her songs being used as part of the soundtrack.

Quibbles aside... good show. (first few seasons were great and then it bogged down)

She was good, but overrated, in the soundtracks. There are some BEAUTIES in the soundtrack songs, though. Forever Young, Dock Of The Bay, House Of The Rising Sun (SOA tweaked version), etc.

I do love Ron Perlman as well. I never watched Married with Children, so I don't have any preconceived notions.
Thanks for reminding me that I've been meaning to rewatch Goon.
